The last female died in spring this year, the remaining two are males. So, I'd assume the best they can do is what they're doing for another type of turtle (I wanna say Galapagos but I can't fully remember), and that's fertilizing eggs of a different turtle species, essentially making a hybrid that they can slowly get the genes back into the wild.

Actually this video is old. Within the last year Forrest and his team on "Extinct or Alive" have found adult turtles in the wild, which was a phenomenal discovery!! And they found babies so that meant they were breeding. They may still be critically endangered as farnas we know, but that could change to a less-drastic status.

I was a child playing outside in TX and I remember SO VIVIDLY looking over at a pond that I always played at a d seeing a giant turtle. I caught several different types of turtles there and played with the ducks.
On this day though, I was standing across the quiet road and looked down at the pond and watched in awe as this GIANT turtle floated up to the surface and then floated right back down after getting a breath of air.
It was so large that it was at least half the size of the pond when it was at the surface. I remember the shell being that of a softshell turtle and it was so big that it had maybe 4-6’ of room all the way around him to the edge of the pond but he filled up the rest of it.
I moved a lot as a kid so I never saw it again but I weirdly think about it often. Was such a crazy thing to see that I wondered how old it was, how it managed to live in such a tiny pond for its size, and what it ate. Ive always wanted to go back to see if the pond is still there and if the turtle is still there.

Yup, the literal translation is to reduce by 10%. Being down to one available broken penis is damn near 100% reduction.

If we have done that with almost every other mammal why not try with turtles if bulldogs have been kept around so can these guys. Unless both these turtles are male or the female is no longer fertile there is hope to bring them back at the very least in captivity (hunters will just hunt otherwise) hell hand the babies to breeders those turtles numbers would sky rocket if farmed by hobbyists that care.

"Causing offence" meant to cause a physical reaction e.g. strong smell or quick loud noise - but now it just means someone subjectively didn't like something.

read through some online articles, apparently the female died in 2019, they tried to pair it with the male mentioned in this video multiple times, however the eggs where infertile, so they decided to pair them artificially, which apparently required anestesia. After the 5th attempt the female died. The general info of the articles was that 3 males are alive right now in captivity. Plus no article mentioned a broken penis, there was only a suggestion that the males infertilety may have been caused by a fight with another turtle that damaged its shell and reproductive organ

That’s why they keep claiming other ppls land, because they’ve already decimated their own!! Now their fishing fleets invade others waters and overfish there because they can’t catch shit in their own economic zones due to the same overfishing techniques they employ in other countries waterways!! Just repeating the same awful methods. Just like pollution, they dump shit out everywhere while other countries spend billions trying to clean up and the reason I think it’s stupid of our politicians is one China will not change nor India and two we are like 1% of the pollution while those two countries alone and Southeast Asia as a whole contributes so much more pollution than the next fifteen counties combined!!

OMG we use to see them about 45 years ago. I'm a place called nimrod dam. They were bigger than a 18 wheeler tire. I haven't been back there over 45 years ago. They also had the largest Gars were longer than my grandma's 16 ft John boat. They would roll over causing the boat to tilt really bad on one side then the other. I couldn't wrap my arms around one of them. It was beautiful watching them. And scary at the same time
We don't really know how much of them are exactly left, but there aren't much. In the Chinese zoo there is currently one male left. There were one or two females left living in the wild in Vietnam, but this year a dead female was found in that area. So while there is a chance of still a few of them surviving, it's also possible that the last female had died this year.

Yeah and the video of people flocking in to see the turtle was a few years ago in Hanoi. We believe she is the last female and I haven't done any research to know if she's still alive

Yangtze river Is honestly one of the best places in the world for scientific aquatic discoveries but I’m sure it is so absolutely difficult to protect and document with the habits of that countries Government and poachers.
