You should do a short or a video going over if you think it might be possible to bring any of these back from extinction, similar to what they are doing with the mammoth. I know that this is really only possible if the corpse is persevered in ice or something
I did too! Don’t lose sight like I did. 💔 you got this! (My parents wouldn’t pay for college if I chose biology, zoology, anthropology, archaeology, or any of that sort. So I dropped out and I’ll be unhappy for the rest of my life because of it.) I do live close to the Everglades though, so I still get my animal fix.

I don't think they know yet but it wasn't related to the Great White it was part of a now extinct group. They are definitely re thinking it's shape and even it's speed. Some think it was fast like a meko others more like a Greenland shark. We have a bunch of teeth and some jaw fragments so until we find more evidence it is anyone's guess.
They changed the family classification from Charcharodon Megalodon to Otodus Megalodon so it is no longer thought to be "directly" related to the Great White.
People overlook how terrifying Orcas would be if they didn’t universally agree that humans were the only animal not on the menu for them. -They’re insanely smart. -They hunt in pacs. -They have their own language. -They’re large enough to snatch someone right off a boat or a kayak. -And they often torture their prey prior to killing it just for fun. They seem like a cheesy evil sci-fi predator that couldn’t possibly exist… but they do exist. We’re just the only 100+lb animal on the planet that doesn’t have to worry about them in the ocean.
I just watched your podcast with Danny Jones… bro… how did you survive a lightening strike?! That’s the mystery! lol! Love your work and conservation efforts man
Forrest sir you really need to do a series with schools. So many kids never go on adventures anymore. Even a local area like San Franciso would work for schools in the area. Brian Cox has done school lectures before about space and had the kids mystified. I think they want to learn but need the spark.
Thanks for the informative and entertaining video. Here in Nova Scotia my family often goes on whale watching tours, setting off from the Bay of Fundy (home of the world's largest tides). Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Props to your editors Forrest, the little music playing when you got to the blue whale nailed how incredible their existence is for me. Like, we can see something alive that’s bigger than fucking dinosaurs and that is never not going to blow my mind. Definitely a bucket list must see for me.
actually if you watch river monsters theres been newer sightings of something that looks like an over turned boat, and by the end jeremy wade suspects it could be greenland sharks becuase they can also survive in freshwater and dont have a erected dorsal fin so it would loo like an overturned boat
Cool congratulations for 1m And there were reports of 110 feet to 120 ft blue whale in 16th century(unofficial) but the whaling have effected the size of big blue
The fact there was a 420,000 lb whale killed in the early 1900s is mind boggling something that large can exist. Research shows a half million lb or 226796 kg is possible and actually probable. 30 elephants, 2500 people in weight. Just think it weighs more then a small town
The biggest squid depends on what you go by. The giant squid is considered biggest because it is the longest. But the colossal squid is considered biggest because it waighs the most at almost twice the weight of the giant squid.
All of these creatures are amazing! It's so sad that most of them are gone. I really hope I get to see a blue whale in the wild one day. As well as whale sharks, basking sharks, orcas, and quite frankly, a lot of other animals too.
big fan of your videos forest but i have an idea as an animal nut myself i wonder what are your thoughts on the deadliest or the coolest ocean predators of all time
While seeing an Ichthyosaur on this list is well appreciated Forrest could have easily found other species that are much MUCH larger than Shonisaurus after recent discoveries.
Remember no one really knows what a megalodon looked like. We only guess that they looked like a giant great white because of the shape of the jaws and teeth.
leedsichthys / dunkleosteus / basilosaurus / liopleurodon / tusoteuthis were all giant/massive sea creatures that lived before and during the dinosaur time period
Thanks for Sharing Forrest - I wonder if you could share a professional viewpoint for the largest species when/if ever possible in head to head matches.. Kind of like the Gorilla vs Grizzly argument.
I know someone will surely mention the incredible Livyatan melvillei but just in case I’ll point out or confirm it’s rightful place as a creature that could kill and consume about any sea monster you mentioned. BTW, I live part time on the West coast in Port Hueneme and have gone whale watching out to the Channel Islands where it’s about impossible not to see a few Grey or Humpback whales doing their thing.
Love the mosasaurus its my favourite marine reptile of all time. When I was a kid my Grandparents brought us to Drumheller for vacation and well there they bought me the lower portion of the jaw and teeth. Funny part about this was the only reason we were there was cause my cousin had discovered some new species of armoured dinosaur. Never thought much of it until I found a whole documentary on UA-cam and it’s now considered one of the most well preserved fossils ever. The name ended up being borealopelta but it was originally suppose to be named the funkosaurus 😂
The Liv was around the same size but no mosasuar was near the size, the biggest mosasuar is predator X which was 60 feet at biggest but only weighed less than 30 tons? The meg could weigh well over twice as much and reach 75 feet.
Should give some credit to Mary Anning, the young girl in England that discovered the first ever ichthyosaur and I believe the plesiosaur back in the 1800's. Some of the first if not the first fossils of marine reptiles in history, when people were still heavily religious and reluctant to believe that it was even possible for these creatures to have existed that far in the past, even questioning the possibility of animals going extinct due to religious reasons.
Did I miss any large ocean animals? Comment them down below!

According to what I have read, current thoughts is that the Megaldon looked more like a Tiger Shark than a White.
I thought it was more like a Mako. More slimmed down and less bulky than a Great White.
