Assuming we contact the heel first as we walk, I don't think the heel should be the first point of contact while walking, or that the heel should contact at all unless I'm standing still. Try it. I believe shoes have ruined our posture, don't get me wrong I do wear shoes to protect my feet from foreign objects, but changing the way I walk to absorb shock has worked for me. I walk bare foot every chance I get.

When you move your leg forward is like using a pivot point in a hammer, the top point in this case the toes, will go up, and the lower point in this case the heel will be closer to the ground, this is the natural movement of the body since your knee act as a pivot...the only way you can counter this is by forcing your toes down, this contract all the muscles, and the tendon in the front of the feet this will cause even more stress on the joints

Appreciate Video! Forgive me for butting in, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you researched - Dinanlinson Rocky Position Approach (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is a smashing one off product for learning how to fix chronic knee pain minus the normal expense. Ive heard some super things about it and my cousin finally got amazing success with it.

I think I know what you mean. You start the movement with the knees sort of. By bending them slightly and pushing the leg upwards a bit.

We didn't evolve to walk on concrete so there is reason to argue for protecting the foot when on concrete.

If you want to cure foot problems walk with out shoes and use "barefoot shoes" your foot will strengthen and you posture will improve. There are EXCEPTIONS however generally speaking you will have less problems running and walking.

"the foot is the SOLE interface." haha!

Animations are rarely perfect, but the one depicted here seems to be suboptimal for walking on icy ground. And I understand that walking styles are somewhat individual, but to me the frame at 0:48 shows too large angles between the soles and the ground. Also, I'd say that the back leg should not leave the ground before the whole sole of the front foot has touched the ground (with the exception of toes, perhaps). Also, I'd say that the toes of at least one foot should (almost) always touch the ground.

0:58 "generally on the otherside of the heel...." so is he saying when my ankle moves inwards, and all the soles of the shoes that wear down one-sided on the heel, is normal?!

You are correct. Try walking barefoot down the sidewalk for a bit. It hurts when you heelstrike the ground. If you have been wearing shoes for most of your life your body will be used to this and heel strike as if you had padding.. but if you look at how individuals who never wore shoes before, you can see that they very rarely hit the ground with their heel first and land on the ball of their foot then come down to the heel while walking and especially running.

Do we really walk heel first without shoes? I have been paying attention to how I walk and my gait changes from heel striking on soft surfaces to landing on the front of my foot on hard surfaces.

  • @Chepecafeteria

I guess what he's saying is not to heel strike.

Aboriginals in remote Australia who have never warn shoes don’t walk heel to toe they move forward through forefoot. They use the correct mechanical function all forward momentum. Your heel pain is from walking on them to much and knee pain is from this style will not use the correct muscles to hold you straight and Perfect in line

As a podiatrist 24 years I order all my patients to wear good running shoes to ultimately cure most gait pathology. I have not had great success with orthotics. 25% success plus or minus with orthotics. Running shoes are light and supportive. Nike and New Balance are OK for most of my norm. It's as if God gave man running shoes to solve all pronation issues on hostile concrete surfaces.

Arch support makes the feet weak. The heel should not touch the ground unless standing still. Try walking barefoot. Striking the heel will hurt and you will adjust the way you walk. It makes the body feel amazing and Free.

Well, we also didn't evolve to walk on concrete so there is some argument for protecting the foot when on concrete.

I have been following the world scene regarding walking for ten years and I will say that absolutely no one knows the correct way to walk. Everyone is just trying to walk correctly and not a single person can currently explain the correct way to walk. Before I explain it, I will obviously tell everyone only one thing. There are many types of walking, and proper walking depends first of all on the sneakers we wear. Second, the walk is changed according to the need for slopes and obstacles.Thirdly and most importantly, you all walk with your legs and feet, which is a mistake. You should walk with the symmetry of your body, where a person no longer walks, but uses the EARTH as a tool for releasing energy, not as a tool for walking. There is a secret how a man can walk like an octopus, where he does not walk or run like a man, but like an octopus that would walk if she could. Let me explain. Every time we touch the floor, a certain amount of stress occurs, which either the muscles or the bones absorb, which we can see in older people who are forced to walk like torn penguins. I CLAIM and will soon prove that man has devolved in movement, above all in walking, but there is a solution. OMEGA WALK. To confirm the knowledge and everyone who will try to dispute or ridicule the following information before I prove it, I will say only one thing.TEST YOURSELF IN THE FOLLOWING WAY TO CONFIRM WHAT I WILL PROVE SOON. Take off your socks and sit down, then do small movements with your feet and knees and watch your toes. What happens next WILL ABSOLUTELY BLOW YOUR MIND. For the first time YOU will see you irregularities in both feet. Each foot behaves differently. Sit down with someone else and you will laugh to tears. What happens is very interesting and is primarily the cause of poor walking. Your toes twitch and touch the floor irregularly, and each foot is different .That is the first and only information I will give here. For everything else, follow the world scene because this will be a SF story...

Absolute rubbish, we were never designed to heel strike, thats what is causing all the knee and hip replacements ie money.Walk barefoot and find that its the forefoot that should contact first.
