Great video Steve. Well done for giving out great info. The other thing to mention is that as an example kockney koi pipe sizes are different from what you can get from DIY stores so best keep all your pipe and fittings if you can made by the same company
Very true Gary, I try to keep my Koi Kit videos about what I use. I know of Kockney Koi pipework and valves and although I've never used them I'm not a fan. I heard some negative comments in my early days of pond keeping about KK and that put me off, however it's a very valid point to bring up. Many thanks.
Hi Steve great content as always pipe work can get confusing at times but great explanation. I have a question about the stepped hose tail would the smaller end not increase the pressure coming out and reduce the flow and the larger decrease the pressure and increase the flow?
Blimey steve you are getting good at this koi kit malarkey 🤣. I thought I'd share something with you about my last few days and wondered if you would do similar to see if you have the same or similar outcome and maybe tell me what you find. I use a constant trickle in/out all year round as I believe a stable environment is better than infrequent water changes. I turned up the trickle to change more water as I started getting some ammonia showing when I do my weekly water testing. I know my dechlorinator cartridges are ok as they are quite new and I test that water often too. After talking to a longtime koi keeper called Andy finch whom now has started his own company called finch filtration innovation systems (mouthful 🤣) he told me about a trick to see if the ammonia is from source water or not. Take a bucket of water from your dechlorinator and put an air stone in it for 24 hrs then do an ammonia test, if you get a reading in layman's terms it means the water company is using chloramines (which is harder to remove) and your dechlorinator carbon isn't the right version. I know its a bit much for a Thursday evening 🤣 i just wondered if you would do the test and see what your results are. I hope you are both well 👋🏼
@@CATANDEYEKOI thanks Steve, the excess ammonia usually gets taken care of by the filters but as i increased it flow it became more apparent and much like yourself i cant deal with this that are not right so a belt and braces approach is required.
CATANDEYE KOI thanks for the quick reply. I am in the process of completing my koi pond and still figuring out some of the fittings. It is only around 1000 gallons with another 200 gallon veggie filter and pump fed with a retro bottom drain to an easy pod and a skimmer to a shower. I would have like a bottom drain but I have a steep garden raising up from the house and the wife said yes to the pond as long as she didn’t loose any patio so a compromise. I only plan to have 5 or 6 koi so hopefully should be good for them for a few years.
Such a useful video. Thanks Steve!

Hi Kev, yeah I reckon that's a good spot. I was basically saying cut off what you don't need otherwise it will create an issue. Cheers

Cat mentioned tonight that water tests are due so we will give the bucket idea a go and get back to you with any results. Cheers Thomas.

Useful video. One quick question regarding the air line, where did you get the reducer from for the rubber elbow to allow the 12mm airline to fit?
That actually came in the air pump kit Adam. It's a very soft silicone feel to it but a piece of hosepipe would probably suffice. Cheers.

@@adamjohnson9148 We look forward to seeing the final pond but I reckon the urge to get more than 5 fish will be too strong. Thanks
CATANDEYE KOI tell me about it!
So it’s not 4 inch 3 inch nor 2 inch just lose the inch why use the inch if it doesn’t measure up just go in millimetres and it all makes sense?
I'm old school Aaron so I can work in both but you are right, in today's world it's confusing.
