🎉 so happy it is done! I had to machine an almost identical PB sleeve for the same reason on my forklift build as it was impossible to find the correct one. I'm really impressed your daughter can operate it. That's awesome. Can't wait for the next video
That turned out great! Open center hydraulic pumps do not make pressure until they meet resistance (the valve opening), so the load check holds the fluid in the cylinder until the valve is open far enough to make the pressure from the pump equal to the pressure in the cylinder. Without the load check, the fluid will flow backward from the high pressure in the cylinder, to the low pressure at the pump. I don't think the pilot operated check valve will work unless the required pilot pressure can be made to always match the pressure in the cylinder. It's hard to believe anyone would make a spool valve with no load checks. How could it ever work?
Good point Wes you can buy pilot operated checks to add to each cylinder but that’s much more expensive than to buy the valve with the checks built in.
Hey thanks West, I liked how it turned out too! Not much modifications made from the original design, except for that spool..and IDK why they make those, it's like a scam or something, they sure got me! BTW, I'm a big fan of your work, been following for a little while now, ever since I was looking to buy an old tractor. You sure change my mind about buying an old wornout backhoe...instead I bought an old wornout tractor with no spare parts available🤦♂️ How did you found my channel, is it from Austin Coulson forklift build or it was on your home feed?
Wow j'adore, ta jeune fille aux commandes. Cette génération sont tellement bon avec des manettes, ils se débrouillent beaucoup plus cité que nous sur un backo! Bonne job Vinny, tu arrives toujours à tes fins!
Magnificent job, my friend. I own a mf 135 and I'd like to make one myself but I don't have the time. I guess I have to buy something like a cheap Chinese product. Happy new year. Dimitrios from Athena.
@@DeathTollRacing Of course my friend...my channel is on life support from my Smart-Busa timelapse I made 2 years ago! Hope to get another hit with the backhoe timelapse too! 😅
Congrats and nice work! You definitely learned a lot about hydraulics along the way. A load check in a control valve and a pilot operated check valve at a cylinder accomplis different things. I load check function in a control valve requires pressure on the unloaded side of the circuit to exceed pressure on the loaded side of the circuit before it is ‘released’ to the work port. In other words, if the weight of the boom is causing 500psi of pressure on the rod side of that cylinder, pressure would have to build past 500psi inside the control valve before it is actually ‘connected’ to the cylinder, that way the boon doesn’t suddenly drop until the pressure in the valve builds from 0-500psi. A pilot operated check valve at the cylinder on the other hand simply prevents fluid from leaving one side of a cylinder unlress pressure is actually applied to the other side. That would prevent the cylinder from moving due to control valve leakage or a ruptured hose, but depending on the ‘pilot ratio’ it may not do a good job replicating the functionality of the ‘load check’ in the control valve. In a perfect world you’d have both, but installing those check valves at every cylinder can get pricey and bulky. A cheaper alternative which doesnt address ‘drift/sag’ from valve leakage but DOES prevent sudden movements from hose failure, is a ‘hose burst valve’ which is cheap and compact and installs inline with the existing hose. It’s also possible to put restrictors inline with certain cylinders to control their speed. The speed at which the main boom drops is an obvious application, but swing speed is a close second. Also, i dont know if you included one but you can also put a ‘crossover relief’ between the two swing cylinders that can prevent harsh, jerking stops of swing movement by venting to tank the pressure spike caused by the suddenly closed control valve. Anyway, GREAT project!!!
Very cool!! I love that you put the boom and stick valves on the sides instead of put in front of you. You never see that on backhoes attachments. I don’t know about full size backhoes like a cat 420 or John Deere 310 etc.
Great set of videos, and lots of info. Thing about check valves alone saved me some time for one of our vintage tractor attachments. One interesting thing is you may find with an external hydraulic pump (normally attached to crank or PTO) + reservoir tank you get better performance, As our 20hp tractor has that problem its very limited to about 500kg load but external one will do a few tones so you can use forklift attachments, cutting rigs etc
Put a valve in to restrict the Flow and you can dial in the speed your controls work the cylinders....and can speed up if you want later as you get used to the controls...also improves Safety and less jerky or dangerous operation...
This was an awesome build series! Quite an ambitious project. And it's good to see that my friends and I aren't the only foul-mouthed dudes when fabricating stuff. You're funny as fuck... keep it up!!! Thanks for the great content.
Nowhere do I see a material price of the parts.. I do realize this is a DUI job and part of the fun is to put one together for yourself. I suppose in my younger years I would have done it too. I am 74 years young. I purchased just the same backhoe to put it on my 763 Bobcat this is what I had on a company 825 sane reach, but the 825 had a plate attached to the Bobcat Frame. on the 763 it attaches to a plate like a bucket only with a 3-point install . The back plate and the backhoe + shipping to COLO u.s was $3,400.00 fob was this comparable to yours? Please respond.
Kind of a strange way to ask a question, but I have a towable backhoe that the arm drops like in the video and I'm sure the control valve is probably cheaper than your first one. It has a Dual Crossover Hydraulic Relief Cushion Valve on the swing cylinder, so after your experience with the relief valve do you think that installing one on the arm would help? Thanks
