After seeing Napiers transfers the last two years and his recruitment, it’s evident he can identify talent so I’m not gonna be too critical of whatever path he takes. However, it would be great to land a few big names that would give us hype going into next season. Ending 8-5 this year would be great, next year I wanna go into it thinking 10-2 CFP contenders.
Plyburn only bleeds green. Florida made him and gave him a chance when others overlooked him. There’s no loyalty anymore. Go Gators 🐊
I hate what the NIL and portal is doing to college football.
@ agreed if anything place the NIL in a trust until they finish college. Kids getting hundreds of thousands of dollars are a distraction. They are at D-1 schools so tuition is paid for already. It’s difficult to root for the kids whole heartedly with everyone with a wandering eye.
Florida rehabilitated him and committed to him. UF could have kicked him off the roster last year, but didn’t because he’s that guy. He played better because the Orange and Blue,Ike our other transfers, his draft stock will drop after this move
@ I don’t wish any of them failure but leaving as the team is ascending is just dumb. Finish the job ya’ll had bad years prior you leave when the breakthrough happening. Kids today afraid to compete for a job too sensitive. The NFL is a 18 game competition for your job. Man up and handle your business and be loyal to a school and fanbase that supported you when nobody wanted or cared about you!
Agreed!
I’m waiting until a few of days after we dominate in Tampa and then hope for something. Not really worried about the portal right now. We didn’t get Badger until May and he has been incredible. Dike has been great too!
Greed, loyalty and the sports agent…The term “one and done” takes on a new perception.
These kids that go to a different school every year will have no true place to go back to after most don’t make it to the NFL
But they’ll be millionaires who cares
@@NoahCalhoun-v9omoney ain’t everything - they’ll learn 😂😂😂😂
I think Pyburn was greedy and selfish. We seem to have a very unselfish team. Pyburn could have become another life long Gator for the history books and been part of something far bigger than himself. Even more reason to hate LSU now!!!
@@patentg8respecially if they can't hold onto that money
@@NoahCalhoun-v9o Most won't be able to handle the prosperity.
Napier FLAT & DULL on the sideline same as Billy in the Portal.
With any player now, like any "commit", it's not what they say, but what they do. I wish him well, but won't miss him. We want kids that want to play here.
If I was a couch I wouldn't want a single player from the transfer portal. However, I'd take a handful of players at key positions if the need arises.
I really feel like they need to bring back the 1 year of ineligibility after a transfer. The portal is madness!
Loveseat or sectional?
Oh I get it ! I'm a Lazy Boy! So I just let them portal however.
Going to a rival is a slap in the face. Go outside the conference. Indeed, money talks. The nation is slipping (cascading?) into corruption on so many levels with this just another indication.
We go through this each year every portal date that opens. And seemingly Napier always goes SLOOOW! He finds those diamonds yeah, but something feels weird this time around. He needs to get Lagway BIG, TALL, targets to sight, but so far we've passed and other schools are racking up!? Billy better get this window with Lagway right & not under use / misuse his talents...that is my concern Ali.
My thoughts are , that's why we need an offensive coordinator , not just someone to fill the spot , but a proven OC , someone , that can take DJ , and the receivers we wind up with , and just open the offense up , throw the play book in the trash , start fresh ! A good passing game , opens up the running game ! Bring back the fun and gun ! Layaway , loves to throw deep , and mostly on target , use that , build the offensive line for just that ! I say go deep 8-10 times a game , there's always a chance of at least getting a PI call , in the ball isn't caught ! Just some of my thoughts ! GO GATORS
There should be a rule that prevents other schools from recruiting a player who has already committed to a certain school.
Oh no Billy didn't sign the first six receivers that went into the portal the sky is falling. People are stupid, the season is ongoing. There are players that won't enter the portal for weeks to come and then there's a spring portal. Who was the Gator's top receiver in '24? Badger is the answer & Billy didn't get him until the spring portal. You guys should be able to find something else to cry about
I mean this is true but the other teams that move more quickly mostly were more successful then him i think he needs to be a lot more aggressive if we want to go from 7-5 to 10 wins you need alll the talent you can get
I was starting to get concerned about that we weren't jumping on more players quickly but then I thought about the fact that all the playoff team kids haven't declared yet. Maybe he is holding out for some of those players?
Far as Napier I'm still not sold on him but Golden yes indeed!
mercenaries....period
If they wanna go then fine the train has to keep rolling! Remember you trying to build a juggernaut so you gotta keep your foot on the gas so to say!
Napier has earned a lot of good will, but I need for him to move faster on the portal.
I doubt he ever will tbh. He is who he is
@@walker1984 i wonder if he really wants to go to the playoffs ever
College football is a total new landscape, where your from and loyalty to a program has all but sailed into the sunset. Kids go where they want or get what they want . As a Spurrier alum in 96 it tough to watch. No wonder Urban Meyer doesn’t want it anymore and Bellichick wants to run it like an NFL program.
This staff does a really good job with evals have really hit on a few but there still way too SLOW
TJ Searcy just entered the portal.
In the end it’s all about the money.
It’ll be just our luck that Pyburn goes to LSU has a 3 down LB and goes off….just like Powell-Ryland, just like Ty’Ron Hopper, just like Diabate, just like Princely, just like McClellan, and more of course. Very frustrating
Napier has never been one to own the portal. He likes the rough diamonds and has gotten lucky in the past with 1 or 2 players. But to be CFP-worthy you need elite studs and we don't have them. We lost out on 4 or 5 elite receivers already and I was hoping Napier would snag a couple given Lagway will go nowhere if he has no one to throw to. If I was the HBC, I'm going after these players from the start as well as recruiting HS players. Can you imagine Lagway next year if we had the receivers that Trask had in 2020?
You know we do have Wilson, mizell coming back? And also 5 star receiver vernell brown
When a player knows they won't make it in the NFL they can become a portal merc who moves around getting money while they can. As for Pyburn, I would love to keep him but losing him isn't like losing Etienne. As for the portal, do we really need anyone? If we got no one it won't be a loss because we have a lot of young players ready to go. Besides, there is a reason these players are in the portal and it usually isn't because they are the best of the best.
It turned out that losing Etienne was never a factor. Gators have great RB's still.
@@williamtackett-r1l Exactly. Pyburn would be even less of a factor than that.
Coach Napier knows that football is played 11 to a side, and you don't load either side with gifted athletes that don't fit into the culture you're building. These kids,(and they're all kids to me), since I've been around for over 80 years, and if they love the culture like they love their families, they will be far more inclined to play 11 to a side, rather than workin to get more money and recognition.
Used to be "Once a Gator, always a Gator" and money is destroying the game of College Football. 😢
If you get paid to go to a school and play football and you leave that school to go to another school you should have to give back all the money that you took. I mean every penny. BEFORE you can put your name in the transfer portal
For now on you have to take a senior player from the Portal no way do you take a younger player.
Isn't it better to keep a player you developed??? There are playoff teams who will have transfers too. Having Slaughter, Banks and George (and potentially James) return are hugely valuable. Are we considering a former 5-star recruit is in the portal better than a 4-star guy who's been in Gainesville from day 1. Only the coaches can say. But Ole Miss and Miami won the portal last year and didn't make the playoffs. Who knows!?!?!?
I think keeping are top guys is absolutely more important than signing big in the portal. The real win is doing both.
He got tampered with
✌🏿 tj
Still not gonna speak on how this defense will be like next year after losing one of the coaches?
Losing Armstrong will not hurt the Gators. He is not ready for SEC caliber defense. He needs much more experience. Ron Roberts is just fine as DC.
You gotta understand and get used to it. It’s business if somebody offered you more money and you got a job to do you’re gonna go with they’re offering you more money. I’m so LSU offered them the money. I got nothing to do with the time he got the bag.
All of these takes in the portal to get “top” players doesn’t make sense because it doesn’t actually result in wins, which is what we care about.
Ohio State: Underperformed
Miami: Underperformed
Ole Miss: Underperformed
FSU: Underperformed
Why would us rushing into the portal to get flashy names make us successful?
Everyone keeps saying we don’t know if this kid made those demands. Well how can y’all find out? Zack, I believe, wouldn’t put this out if there wasn’t any validity to it!! Plyburn could have said it!! Come on!!
Go to LSU he’s not an SEC caliber D end extremely average
When these kids transfer and go to a rival, in my mind they lose all the benefits of being a Gator. I don't think these kids realize what they are losing when they leave. You are no longer a Gator. You no longer get to come back and go to games. The Gator network to help you find a job, the contacts, etc. is now gone. The lifelong friends you made with your teammates is liekly gone as well. All this because you wanted to play one year at another school, seems like a bad decision. Especially when you are getting playing time, I'm not talking about some backup who just wants to see the field somewhere so he leaves. And you'll always be looked at as a villain/a traitor in the eyes of Gator fans. All for a little extra cash in your pocket. I hope Jack can live with that.
I’m just the old GATOR FAN, diehard, whatever you call it and I don’t understand how players on a TEAM just walk away from their TEAMMATES.
I ABSOLUTELY HATE THIS SYSTEM.
ITS GOT TO BE FIXED ASAP.
HOW ABOUT SIGNING 3-4 years NIL DEALS IE contracts like ADULTS.
I DONT KNOW how to fix it JUST FIX IT PLEASE.
Commitment doesn't mean anything anymore. Life lessons teaches us you cannot succeed without commitment. NCAA should enforce a two year commitment rule. As far as NIL goes put a cap on it. Just saying !
All HS curriculum should include understanding what the word “commitment” means. College athletes have no clue what a commitment is.
We all know 2 coaches who don't waste time in the transfer portal and that's Lane Kiffen and Brian Kelly! Florida should've made Napier's contract more incentive based cause at this point, he's gonna get about 26 million rather he wins or loses. Dane Key and Barrion Brown from Kentucky should've been the first guys on campus for a visit and then a portion of the money they saved by not firing Napier should've been used to get them to sign. The only reason Napier still has his job is because of Lagway who kept the defense off the field long enough for them to actually get rest instead of the constant 3 and outs that Mertz was producing. Had Mertz not gotten hurt for the season, Napier would've still had Lagway coming off the bench and there would've been no bowl game cause he's stubborn like that and gets a fat payment win or lose. It's like Felipe Franks and Kyle Trask all over again and his slow ass approach to transfer portal signings while other schools are prospering is nerve wrecking to say the least. 🙄😡👎🏿
What is really frustrating is all the arm chair coaches
Bi+ching and complaining
It's what we do best! 🙂
Allegiance?? Stop that talk please, it's a new world in college football. Can't blame these kids for following the money. Pay up or shut up! Do I like it, NO! Is it reality, YES!
College football isn't what is was in the past, and as such, it's really lost its luster for me.
If your not tampering, your not doing your job
😂😂😂😂 good observation
It's finance not romance. Ohio State and Oregon have proven that money can buy championships. "Salary Cap" is going to have to be a thing of the collegiate future.
Texas spent the most read the NIL chart.
Golden is the one most definitely, he turned the men's basketball team around in a short time tells me he knows what he doing! 🫡👌
