Thanks for your videos! I have a 2nd and 4th grader who I pulled out of public school to homeschool. I am very interested in Torchlight but can't decide on a curriculum. As far as I can tell, they haven't learned any ancient history or Social Studies in public school so far, so I'm thinking about starting with Level 1 based on your video, but I'm worried that it will be to low of a level for my older son, who is gifted. I've already planned on separate vocab and grammar curriculum for him, so I'm thinking Level 1 might work for us as a family-style curriculum. Any thoughts?
I would absolutely suggest starting at Level 1. The books themselves aren't that much different from a reading level. The history is so neat though and it does build on prior levels through the timeline. Since you have to add Math and English anyway (and those tend to be more grade/age specific) that allows for the specification. Also, since Torchlight is fairly new, this will give you room to go through the levels she has out now instead of starting on a higher one and running out of the next step before she releases it. The only thing I would probably do with Level 1 is to add in some more science, but that can just be little experiments, etc. not a full curriculum (even just ones like the 31 Days of Halloween STEM series I have out). Level 2 does seem to get more science heavy than Level 1.
This looks so amazing! My daughter is 7 and a strong and avid reader! This looks like the perfect curriculum to use as we enter into our very first year of homeschooling! Now, I know it will vary from learner to learner but how many hours a day can you expect to spend on this curriculum (just specifically the Torchlight program, not including the math and English units that you would add). Thanks!
We love it and if she is a strong reader then I bet she will love it also! For Torchlight only, we usually spend 1 hour Monday morning, sometimes less, doing all the weekly reading (except for chapter books). My daughter will sit for all of it at once, so we just do the whole week in one morning. Then I will usually spend about 30 mins in the afternoons reading the daily chapters from that weeks chapter book. The poetry only takes about 10 mins each morning when they act it out. Then the science and art projects (if that week has them) take about 30 mins each and we do those on different mornings throughout the week. We will also usually watch any videos that are part of the curriculum (or extra ones I find) during snack time every day, so about 15 minutes. I will say, the first two weeks seemed to be much denser for us and took longer reading but then it lightened up considerably. Hope this helps!
Weronika Zubek so we haven’t looked at math or English yet. We found a Montessori curriculum so we are deciding between that and this. If I do math I am hoping to find Montessori based math or I may just do it myself since I know a bit about what they do. I want to check out logics of English since lots of people seem to be recommending it.
Hi! I know you're planning to add Level K this week...but what would you recommend for a reading 5 year old? She was going to go into Kinder this year but I pulled her because our schools are 100% online and I think it's too much screen time. EXCITED to do something lit based because my kids (5.5 and 2) LOVE LOVE LOVE to read. Do you think Level K would still excite a child who is independently reading? Move to level 1? Yes, I think Level K would be perfect! My daughter is a strong reader as well and she ended up taking the chapter books and rereading them herself after we read them together. There are also several books that are actually parts of series, so we picked up the rest of those and she ran with them. In my daughters case, I don't think at 5 she would have been ready for Level 1 because of the ancient history elements. She really enjoyed Level K though and we checked out more books to dive deeper into the topics each week, but she loved the cooking, art and music with that level as well. I have to say the book in Level K have been some of my favorites and offer really diverse subject matters and characters so I would highly recommend starting there :) My Level K video will go up Wednesday so you can see some more of them!
We are starting Level 1 and I am finishing gathering everything. I didn't see where Curiosity Chronicles specifies which course we will start with. Do we need Ancient History only for TL Level 1?

Another curriculum that I was really looking into was moving beyond the page, lots of books everything included for the sum!😳 Can you share the total investment after printing and books? MBTP for the 5-7 year old level its close to $700 and you still need to add LA. Do you need to purchase a separate math as well? Thank you! 💗

For me, I get the pdf, I get it printed and I buy all the books. I don't buy them all new (I talk about the best places to get the best prices in the general Torchlight video as well as discount code: ua-cam.com/video/Y4LEofUHBP8/v-deo.html) so it would be around $500/$600. I am going to reuse the entire curriculum for my other two girls, so the price was okay for me. However, a lot of people check out the books from their library, only buy the spines or use digital versions of the books. If you don't print the guidebook, that would save $50-$100. There is also a really good resell value for these books on Torchlight Buy/Sell/Trade sites. You do need to add on a Language Arts and Math program. New homeschool mom here. I love your videos! I was wondering if you’d recommend level 1 or 2 for my daughter. She’s 7 (8 in March) & just finished 1st grade at a private school. She did well and is solid reader for her age. I also have a 4 year old (5 in October) who will go to preschool but I’d love to include her in some things if I can once I get a fee for this lifestyle lol
