How wide is your drive belt? You just sourced dodge 8m timing belt parts off ebay for the belt, and both pulleys? The one is that listing says its 30mm wide but your belt looks like 2". The final pulley looks to be taperlocked to the keyed cart axle? Isnt that a 48v motor? But your pack is 24s8p. 90v haha. I might do the same pack as you. But trying to pack more than 2kwh on a cart in a123 cells starts to get big and heavy fast.

Sick build dude! I just built one as well and made my own series on my channel- very similar, just some different parts and not quite as fast as yours but very fun to make!
that’s why i went with one so thick. so it wouldn’t do that. i actually had it slip so i checked it and the motor bent my 1/4 in thick steel motor mount. so the belt is just fine for now
Not sure because i got it used from ebay. It weighs about 45lbs and has a diameter of 6 inches and length of 9 inches if that helps. Also the rpm is somewhere about 3200 i think.
It just came to mind, why do you have three on/off switches for the kart (I saw you have two on the dash and another on the controller I think) as well as a key ignition? So you need to turn four things on before you can get the kart going?
I was going to have one for a reverse and one for forward and one for power on, but i broke the reversing contactor so now the key is power to the esc and both switches have to be on for the contactor to be energized.
Yeah you could definitely do it. you'll be on UA-cam watching tons of videos to figure out how to do it though. I think I spent less than 2,000 on this one and only 1000 on my first one. When your deciding to use a brushless motor or brushed, the brushless motor setup is going to be more expensive but better for high speeds and the brushed motor is gonna be a lot cheaper.

My wife's car was hit in a parking lot, the guy was found at fault, which is rare in a parking lot incident where typically neither is at fault. In this case the damage indicated that the guy backed out at such high speed that he was considered to be driving unsafely. My wife said, he flew out of the spot.

I got to a top speed of 50 mph on gearing that was too low, but i messed up some of the battery cells before i got to do a new test with better gearing. so all I know is that it could do like 0-40 in about 4 seconds. hopefully, I can get replacement cells and do a real test eventually.
We are about to build one of these but ATV style! I am thinking about using the SAME Kelly Controller with Regen, and I want to use a belt drive system. I saw your other video where you made the belt system. Do you have any advice on the belt drive, where to get the parts for it? Also, have you figured out how to connect a speed meter and volt meter to the Kelly Controller? There are a lot of pin outs on that thing that might be useful. I was thinking I could interface an Arduino or circuit python board that drives larger 7 segment LED displays for amp draw, and volts and maybe some kind of batter level meter (that's a whole project for a different day). For speed, I could always just use a GPS meter. Does the Kelly Controller NOT have reverse or is that the limit of your motor? I'm not sure what motor that is just from looking at it.
The reverse function is actually done with a special type of contactor called a ''reversing contactor''. The pulleys I Got them from ebay. Have you seen the free energy generators uses a alternator and a 12 volt DC motor and it pretty much runs itself and it creates 120 volts it's small enough that it would fit on this go kart and you wouldn't have to have the need for batteries
Hey so I was going to build something similar to this but was trying to find a cheaper/lighter alternative to the motor do you think a Amazon/eBay China motor would work I was going to do a Kelly 72v controller and a 72v 40ah battery and trying to get a top speed around 45mph or more
I think I've spent just under $2,000 on this and I'm not taking orders to build for other people but I might decide to sell this one if I build another so keep your eye out for updates
@@Kevin.OBrien44 2 things ,....the water makes the belt get colder and thus tighter .The water gets between the belt and the sprocket and then it goes pow. I saw a lot of this at the Portland IKF Nationals.

Its the max output of this system. My esc can do 650 amps and my battery is 80v. Ive hit 30kw but that's with short gearing so im working on that for the next vid.

the gear ratio was about 3:1 but with top speed of only 42. then i geared it 1.5:1 and that was perfect for top of 65ish mph

Does the belt ever slip or run off track? Everytime I deal with them, they always find their way off track.

There is no way this thing has 70hp.... Maybe 7kw but even that would max out these batteries
