To be fair, when I have been in situations where something scary happens (to a much lesser extent) I’ve reacted in the same way. Most people tend to lack clarity of thought when terrified.

Antidote Define success. If you mean success by good reviews, no. If you mean success by money, kind of because the money made by the film is filtered through Netflix so they probably make less than they should. If you mean success by popularity, I guess you could say a lot of people have watched it. But that doesn’t really make a film successful because in a few years will you remember Bird Box? Most people who’ve watched it will just say “oh yeah I remember watching that one time, it wasn’t that good.” If that is your definition of successful, I don’t find that successful.

A real review of what to expect:
The movie is 80% dark. That might annoy viewers who hate that art direction. The movie is more suspense/psychological rather than horror. The movie uses eerie music throughout which sets the creepy mood. This is not a jump scare movie. It is not gross or blood heavy. It's literally more about the environment that makes it "scary." Lastly, it has a lot of soft talking and chats.

As a fan of psychological/ horror genre, I would recommend you guys to watch this movie ONLY for those people who's detail oriented on how the movie goes. For those people who only likes jumpscares, bloody, killing, etc. Then this is NOT for you to watch since it's more of a psychological one and it'll make you only feel bored when watching these type of movies.

Found this movie last night, couldn't sleep, so got my tiny laptop crawled into bed with my dog, decided to pick this movie. I am usually a period drama watcher or medieval doc's. So, I really did not know the actors with the exception of one clearly. About 3 minutes in, I was gonna abort mission and pick something else, as my finger approached the key to stop, I was completely wrong and drawn in. Once and a while a movie will completely blow you away. Completely leaving you on the edge, constantly thinking, constantly entertained. A good movie will end leaving you completely floored. This is that movie, for me anyway. Wow!!!!!!! Though, not entirely keen on the ending, I am not the writer and it is what it is, still great. Highly recommend this movie.

Tbh, I didn’t feel angry at the kids. I just felt sad that they had to witness their dad cheating on their mother, watch their mum slowly lose her mind and finally hear the news of her killing herself. We usually need to find reasons for our hurt. And what do kids know after all? They know that their dad found a new woman, and that caused their mum to die. It was easy to blame Grace. And no, I saw someone saying that the mum was selfish to kill herself. It’s not the mum’s fault. Suicide can never be the victim’s fault because no person would ever think of doing that if there was a way out of their misery. I blame the dad. He knew the children were upset, knew that he and his relationship caused his ex-wife’s death and his children’s trauma. And yet, he expected them to cozy up to his girlfriend after just 6 months. And what will the children do? They thought they’ll prank her. Yes it might rattle her a bit but did they know how deep her trauma goes? Did they know that it will drive her over the edge? Of course they didn’t. Even the dad didn’t predict this. The people involved were hurting, and the hurt manifested in horrible ways.

Really terrific movie with a dynamic I don't think I've encountered anywhere else. It's a scary movie without a boogeyman and unassuming characters with uncommon cruelty. Most horror movies end on the crescendo. This movie peaks early and then spirals you into a pit-of-your-stomach dread -- you know what's going to happen and you really don't want it to happen, and you have to watch it happen.
It's a pretty slow movie but overall quite good. The ending is one of the most depressing Ive ever seen

Fantastic film that truly grasps the concept of and amazingly executes psychological horror. As a long-time horror fan who’s seen almost everything, it takes a lot to scare me nowadays, but this film had me on edge almost the whole time.
To me it was boring, not much sense at all. Even being a psychological horror, it doesn't have any elements that you can understand. It's like they mixed, psychological horror with non logical flowing elements

There is no demon. There is no mom neither 😂. Just one crazy woman, two crazy kids , an idiot dad and a dog.
I just watched this movie and really, really enjoyed it. It's not about jumpscares, it's an exercise in ever-growing suspense and uncertainty as a group of people dealing with heavy emotional traumas are faced with a creepy situation that keeps getting worse. The movie sets up several possible explanations for what's going on and keeps you guessing all the way until the final scene (which will be sticking with me for some time).
The performances are great across the board, especially from Riley Keough and the young actress who plays the daughter. The musical score is effectively tense and the sound and overall atmosphere is really strong. This was a well-crafted, dark little movie.
EDIT: I just watched this movie for the second time. It holds up, if maybe even better. Damn is this a great movie. Probably one of the top three or four best that I've seen in the last decade. I also love that this trailer does it justice without spoiling anything. Top notch all around, I'd like to see it get a larger audience.
Just watched this movie. I was like "DAMN, YEAH!" when the movie ended. They're (Mia and Aiden) totally deserved it. They deserved the ending. I'm so so so satisfied. That's why you don't mess with people's mind. Especially the one who already hurt before. Great movie.

I don`t know about anyone else but I found this movie really interesting....you wont find this movie good if you are looking for R-rated body horror...but if you are looking for a real horror movie with an actual plot...this is the movie..I really enjoyed it!!

This movie was amazing. Talk about Karma. I have a way with figuring movies out, but this one took a couple of guesses. The description threw me off, so kudos on that. I highly recommend this movie for anyone looking for a Karma based suspense movie with an ending fit for the actions one choses when thinking there is no consequences. On top of taking it to a whole new lvl. There is more than meets the eye, and although there was 1 thing i wished didn't happen, it was necessary. 👏
I was rewatching the trailer because I recently mentioned this movie to a friend and I spoke exactly about this. I've watched so many movies and read so many books at some point you just start figuring out the way the plot is going 40 minutes into the thing but this movie kept me changing my theories all the way to the reveal because everytime I thought I had it figured out they made it seem like something else.

I just watched this last night and thought it was fantastic. It’s definitely a psychological thriller more than horror but I was mind blown at the twist. It plays your emotions well, by the end you don’t know who to feel sorry for- all of them, really. Tragic, suspenseful, original. I liked it a lot.

They took away the psych medication of a woman who experienced the childhood trauma of a dad who was a psychotic cult leader who tortured her and she ended up being the sole survivor of a mass suicide. They removed all the food from the house, starving her in the middle of a blizzard, while they had no mode of transportation. They made her think she was in purgatory by faking a suicide attempt. They killed her dog. Should I go on? They definitely deserved it.

this was a painful The Shining and Hereditary mix to watch. The cinematography was cool and all but just too slow of a slow burner. The twist was pretty cool though.

I say the kids got what they deserved, you don’t mess with someone’s past like that especially when it is as dark as hers was. But overall I thought that this was a great movie it had no jump scares and no monsters but it still managed to mess with my mind.
They definitely got what they asked for. A lot of people don't agree with me on that. I felt so bad for Grace. She was trying so hard to have a normal life.

Honestly, the kids explicitly told him "we do not want anything to do with that women". Then their father rush trough his kids grieving process by putting them with the woman they really blame the death of their mother for. Leaving all them at an isolated place, did not call to his girlfriend to assess their situation; the girlfriend who was the only survivor of a cult and had psychological problems.

Oh my god that plot twist... don’t want to spoil but all I can say is that the ending is extremely satisfying and everyone gets what they deserve.

Quite simple really. Kids blamed her for their mothers death so they tortured her on purpose to drive her crazy but it back fired on them.
Confused at how their stupid dad left his two traumatised kids with a future step mom they loathe for a few days as he "goes to work"? Yeah that major unrealistic plot flaw made the whole film a complete joke. And this catfish trailer should be sued for wasting all our times!

@The Spires College Tribute yeah they knew she had a dodgy past and Aiden was old enough to know if someone has meds it's potentially dangerous to hide them. Either way they went to extreme lengths to mess with her. The belongings, changing dates, hanging, loving memory picture and false death reports... I know it's just a film but if it was real they'd probably be thinking, "oh sh*t, we've fu*ked up here!" hahaa
