I don’t remember if you mentioned how often to fertilize seedlings. I use 1/4 strength 20-20-20 water soluble every 7-10 days starting after true leaves develop.
I'm so excited, first time doing a fall garden, and very much looking forward to it, the information you provide is so understandable and easy to follow, your a great teacher! I am 79 and new at all of this and I am going to have to use the sunlight from the south windows to prayerfully grow in seeds and hopefully get them tall enough to plant outside. Thanks again for all of your dedication and work!
Hello I really admire your adorable smile and your good sense of humour, you seem worth talking to and I just want to be friends with you , If It's okay with you
In some of your recent videos on the double cup method you advise to keep the water in the bottom cup half way up the cut triangle. This keeps the soil constantly wet. But in this video (How and when to fertilize seedlings) you say to take the trays out of the water after the top of the soil becomes dark brown (wet). Which is correct?
What if some seeds germinated later than others or haven't at all? Would you fertilize or not? My seed starting set up doesn't allow for bottom watering, it's the jiffy peat pellets. I'll use something different next time.
This is my current situation too. I planted different plants in the same tray and only a couple are up needing fertilizer. I'm hoping it won't hurt the un sprouted ones.
Just saw your video , cool i knew how to fertilize starter plants to harvest. But this is the first year i am actually trying to grow veggies from seed to harvest. So i kind of was unsure when to start fertilizing. I think you cleared this up. So its after the first true leaves aka the next leaves after the seed leaves. And for an organic fertilizer like a balanced 20 -20-20 NPK you just half strength/dilute it. And fertilize every 7 to 10 days. Ahhhh
I’ve used a beet based commercial organic fertilizer in the past and the seedlings loved it, but it seems like it was a groundhog/rabbit attractant. :-( so I’ve gone without since.
Hello I really admire your adorable smile and your good sense of humour, you seem worth talking to and I just want to be friends with you , If It's okay with you
its a good way to get ahead and have pretty good sized plants to put in the garden when its warm enough than just seeding. Not necessary by any means though.
Hi Brian I wondered if you can do a video on the steps for bringing plants back indoor. I have a poinsettia that’s out all summer, basil, parsley etc. I would like to have inside before it’s too cold. Don’t want the little white bugs though. Vancouver Canada 🇨🇦
When I do my next starts I am so going to remember to water from below. I haven't done that so far because I just found it cumbersome to take the tray outside at that point to dump the excess water. But, I have a plan for next time.
Got my first bottle of Neptune’s Harvest Tomato & Veg! Thought I’d give it a try after watching your “Wonder Blend” (or whatever you called Miracle Gro) video.
Whats your favorite seed grow light? Is this new light that you installed here the best one out of the ones that you have tested or there are other lights you like more? I would like to purchase something that will last a long time and is good quality. Thank you for this video btw. You are helping us all so much to try to grow some veggies this summer 💚
If you use boiling water on your seedling mix or microwave it before planting your seeds, you will not have to deal with fungus gnats. I learned that from another channel and never have an issue with them.
@@Sense2024 of course. You aren’t dumping any water on plants in this situation. She says that she uses boiling water to moisten her seed starting medium to kill any fungus, not that she puts boiling water on seedlings.
Probably shouldnt. Granular fertilizers often need time, bioligical activity, and or BOTH to release nutrients. They wont have any affect on your seedlings until weeks if not months after application
Have you also used neptunes harvest on houseplants as well? I just ran out of my usual fertilizer for my indoor plants but have this for my spring seedlings.
Did I hear you right? You start your carrots indoors and transplant them into the garden after? I'd like to see the transplant video of carrots! Love you videos.. you are the only one I actually follow!!!!!
I setup hundreds of seed trays for starting my seeds and it'd been a few years since I gardened and I accidentally added diluted tea fertilizer mixed with water to all the trays. Did I just ruin all my hard work? I'm just planting the seeds tonight and wanted the soil to be moist. Considering flushing from the top with a garden hose on the shower setting but then my soil will be wet for some time and probably unusable, was looking to plant seeds tonight.
Would the Neptunes Harvest also work as a general houseplant fertilizer. I grow Microgreens and use oceans solutions as a fertilizer but I’m only growing seed leaves. Probably why when I grow plants out to true leaf for outdoors they don’t grow well under lights with oceans solutions . Good video thanks.
@@serahlefler yes once I upsize to larger pots I will use fertiliser. I use Kellogg’s fish/seaweed which is 2-2-2 NPK. I use the same measurements that Brian uses in this video.

I never really used slow release on starter plants to harvest but maybe it would work well at the seed to seedling levels in beginning? You used to use fish emulsion fetilizer who need a higehr concentration per water. Like for me when i used it it was 1:20 ratio with a very low NPK. Like 0.5 0.4 0.2 NPK. Neptune harvest fertilizers are not fish emulsions a they use complete different process. Better for our plants and bacteria and the ratio of dilution is 1:128. A massive difference
But one additional question what happens if you want to use a synthetic fertilizer like a miracle grow or another synthetic based liquid fertilizer. Can i just one 1/4 strength or something. Or is there actually a math equation for it. I am just going to wing it for this years experiments but it be nice to know. And what about instead of using a quick liquid release if one just mixed slow release pellet instead of liquid. Just unsure about the aspect of concentration/amount but as for when/timing all set.
