  • In this video we take a look at why horizontal and vertical cover is so important for the bellwether or all forest wildlife, the ruffed grouse. This video is simply meant to serve as a visual aid to illustrate just how easily woodland hawks, ruffed grouse's number one predator, can fly through timber and prey on a ruffed grouse on a drumming log and why it's so important that ruffed grouse have good habitat in the form of horizontal and vertical cover. Creating the cover is easy, it's just takes some sweat equity with a chainsaw and the patience to allow for forest generations, and the decision to create habitat to ensure a positive future for ruffed grouse is a simple one!
