Would you have to spray for the sweet gums every few years or does the initial spray take care of them for good? Also will the spray kill a 6” DBH white oak? Thanks Dr. Woods!
If Arsenal is applied broadscale from a plane, helicopter, etc., then use the sweetgums will be taken care of for many years. If individual trees are treated, then more will likely grow from seed. The herbicide blend i suggested will control oaks also - so only treat the ones that are to be removed. Thanks!
@@GrowingDeerTV Loggers only want to clear cut properties. People who own 100 acres or less don’t even get a second look. Small potatoes don’t taste good to them. When you mention thinning they start crawfishing.
I live in Mississippi also and had the same issues. I had a timber guy come out and cut the front 5 acres and then disappeared. So I just rented a dozer and started pushing them up in piles to create food plots and thinning some areas for bedding. Hoping to run a fire through it next year.
I work a lot in the Adirondacks! Daniel will be assisting a landowner in Maine and in Ontario soon! It's all relative to what folks are used to at each location.
Here in MD had a certified forester look at the timber last year and he only wanted to deal with oak, walnut and popular, I have a ton of large mature white pine, Cypress, cryotomeria and he said there is no market for those trees and that's what I wanted mostly removed. The majority was white pine.
Josh - If you are treating the entire stand with a chopper or skidder, most folks use 16 ounces per acre. The varies based on the formulation. If you are treating individual trees with the hack and squirt, etc., technique, most folks use 50% Garlon3A, 40% water, and 10% Arsenal Ac.
Does dropping the pine trees to open up the canopy create a fire hazard? There would be a lot of logs on the ground. My pine area is not large enough for a harvest company to be interested in thinning it and taking the trees.
Enjoyed the breakdown of what happens to be my exact scenario (in a couple years). 👍👍 hopefully pine prices come up by then!

I’ve been waiting 4 years for the market to come back up in MS 😂
The pine market is rough in MS - especially in northern, Mississippi!
Same here. 👍
I’ve been waiting 4 years to build a deck. Seems someone Is making some Jack

Same problem I’m having. Our property is within two miles of an international paper mill and no one is willing to thin it.

find another forester, private or public, there is pretty much always a market for timber it just depends on what is most demanded locally
For what it's worth, the pines in south central Virginia are being cut at unbelievable rate.
This is not saw timber but mostly chip and pulp.
Glad there is a market there!
Grant what ratio do you suggest for the arsenal chemical treatment after thinning? I’m thinning some pines on my property now.

That’s 16oz per acre arsenal correct?

The needles and limbs might burn, but the logs won't be dry enough to burn for years.
There is someone or something walking upright in the background around 1:06 in the clip...you may have yourself a Bigfoot, or the Forester, ha.
No better in WI
