So many great Stevie Wonder songs, Higher Ground, I Was Made to Love Her, You Are The Sunsine of My Life, Living for the City, If You Really Love Me, I Wish, Isn't She Lovely, Sir Duke, so many more
One of the coolest licks ever. Only person I can think of equally prolific in songwriting etc to Stevie is Paul McCartney. My recommendation for another Stevie song is Living for the City
Dance-able song. 7 year old me dancing to this was not pretty. As it is today. Remember, Stevie and Paul McCartney did a duet in the early 1980s "Ebony and Ivory".
Stevie Wonder is a genius. plain and simple. One of the greatest singer-keyboardist-songwriters of all time. He pioneered that funky/jazzy R&B sound that influenced countless others, much like steely dan. Also a tremendous influence as a vocalist - those ad libs! The staggering run of albums from 'Music of my Mind' to 'Songs in the Key of Life' is essential listening.
He was a child prodigy and was performing, recording songs as a young boy. His original stage name was Little Stevie Wonder. I remember his songs from the early ‘60s.
As someone who’s played trumpet for decades. I can tell you that the level of brass musicianship on this track requires an immense amount of talent and a lifetime of dedication.
Kudos for recognizing arguably pop music’s most-talented singer/songwriter/musician alive today! Absolutely no one even close to his level of artistic creative genius.
Totally. His albums from Talking book 1972 right through to Hotter Than July 1980 are just about the best body of work made by any artist ever. Innervisions and Songs In the Key of Life are stone-cold classic masterpieces.
One of our greatest singer/songwriter geniuses. Stevie’s first hit was at 12 years older- called “ Fingertips” because oof his virtuosic harmonica playing. Songs In the Key of Life albums are his pinnacle. He spearheaded the effort to make MLK’s birthday a national holiday and wrote his own iconic birthday song for Martin. My favorite song of his is “ As”.
Wonder won best album grammys for "Innervisions" and "Songs In The Key of Life". When Paul Simon won an album grammy for "Still Crazy After All These Years" he thanked Stevie Wonder for not putting out an album that year.
Stevie Wonder ruled the Grammy Awards in the early to mid 1970’s. So many great songs such as Sir Duke,As,You Are The Sunshine of My Life,Master Blaster,I Wish, And Higher Ground!
The Sesame Street performance is absolutely EPIC!! Steve & Co. are just grooving the whole time, and so are the kids on the show! He definitely didn't 'phone in' the performance. I highly recommend watching it! The clavinet & drum groove is what always got me with this track, then the horns kick in - WOW! Great reaction.
The Sesame Street performance of this song is so frickin good man! The kids are rockin out, especially the little girl on the balcony! They jammed out the song like a real gig.
He learned to play the keyboards blind....that's an incredible achievement. Then went on to become a phenomenal singer, songwriter and superstar which was just a STELLAR achievement. One of those artists that is a Legend in their own time ! My Grandmother used to say " Never be superstitious, because it's bad luck" hehe
There have been many blind musicians, including Ray Charles and George Shearing. Henry Butler, a pianist from New Orleans, was blind. There's a rich history of blind blues musicians like Blind Lemon Jefferson, Blind Willie McTell, Blind Boy Fuller, and Sonny Terry. Blind Blake is often listed as a blues guitarist, but he was more of a ragtime musician. Art Tatum was nearly blind. I'm not sure whether you caught this, but Stevie Wonder had his first hit record (Fingertips) at the age of 13. That's why they called him "Little Stevie Wonder." Stevie Wonder has a big catalog of great songs. One of my favorites is Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing. Maybe you could react to this one.
You're all over the place lately, and it's great. Stevie Wonder had some of the catchiest songs ever. Even a progressive/classic guy like myself couldn't help appreciating him.
Stevie is, and always was what his name suggests..A wonder. Literally one of the most creative, and intelligent people you will ever encounter, Daniel..I promise you. You are now delving into the world of a "True" genius, and that is not hyperbole, by any means.
:) Great song! Great artist! Great reaction! :) I wore out my vinyl albums! Was so excited when CDs came out. Then my kids started 'borrowing' my CDs ... :) Lol! I'd never see certain CDs again! (My kids had & have great taste ♡) :) Just wanted to add ~ Stevie Wonder is one of the individuals who PROVE that the only barriers in your life are the ones that YOU put in front of yourself. [Of course there are exceptions & saying the above is 'cliche'... but aside from chronic pain & some health issues, it holds true) ♡
There is a huge catalog of incredible songs by this jewel of an artist. All of it worth your time. I love Ceepin’, Do I Do, Boogie On Reggae Woman, You Haven’t Done Nothing, All in Love is Fair.....and many more!
Great video.Stevie wonder is one of the greatest musicians of all time I’d love you to keep reacting to him he has some many great songs.Keep up the great work.
This song was originally written for Jeff Beck, and they came up with the main riff together, but Stevie's version ended up coming out first and became a much bigger hit. That's Stevie playing 3 keyboard parts, drums, and a bass on a MOOG.
"Living for the City" is a good, meaningful song by Stevie Wonder that reflects what's going on in the United States today. You ought to give that a listen!
Love Stevie!! Before Stevie, another unbelievable artist, also blind, was Ray Charles. Georgia on My Mind probably his most famous song. Also I Can't Stop Loving You.
Stevie Wonder has been singing and writing music since he was a young boy. He used to be called Little Stevie Wonder. He is so amazing live. He really seems to love doing his music for people. If there ever was a Mr. Soul, he is that. He is the Governor of Motown in my opinion.
Came to fame with his incredible Harmonica playing. Listen to early work such as Pearl or Hey Harmonica Man. Played so many backing tracks to popular movies
Stevie Wonder is about as deep a rabbit hole as there is. Try , "Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing", "If You Really Love Me", "Overjoyed" "Sir Duke", "Master Blaster", "Ribbon In The Sky", "Higher Ground", "Boogie On Reggae Woman", "Fingertips", "All I Do", "Superwoman", "Living For The City", his great love songs "As", "My Cherie Amour", "Lately" the aforementioned "Overjoyed" "Isn't She Lovely"and a ton more.
But the bass here is not a bass guitar, it's Stevie on a moog synthesizer. Stevie is playing the drums. As someone alluded to, the guitar-like sound is Stevie playing a keyboard instrument called a clavinet (which other artists have used). Clavinet videos are found on UA-cam. Very different hard (?) sound compared to a piano. He also puts an echo on some of the clav parts. Maybe It makes it more resemble electric guitar. Stevie can also play harmonica incredibly well! Edit: Thanks for doing Stevie! Diversity!
He played a LOT on this tune. Not everything, but way more than most would feel confident enough to do. The horns were added, of course, and, I gotta say, they do add a lot. But the feel is, indeed, ALL Stevie.
Check out Lachy Doley doing Voodoo Child using Clav... Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple) said that Lachy was the Hendrix of the Keys... ua-cam.com/video/1IINu-Ug4Go/v-deo.html Note the damage on the Clav from Lachy using the Whammy bar
Listen to his first hit, with us of course, recorded live on stage when he was a young adult. Fingertips Part I & II will explain, excite and inspire. I cannot stress enough how helpful and informative taking a quick step back in Stevie Wonders catalogue will be before going forward and experiencing his creativity.
Stevie wonder, musical genius and multi instrumentalist! His drum playing and synth bass on this song are particularly sick, Rick beato did a nice breakdown track by track. Stevie’s entire catalog is awesome by his classics period is my personal favorite, you would like the song As featuring Herbie Hancock!
I saw him in concert in 1988 when I was 16 in his In Square Circle tour. Besides amazing music, I vividly remember him standing up and talking about racial harmony and love. When will we fully embrace this as a people? What he said really moved me though.
Without checking, I'd bet that Stevie played all the instruments and vocal on this track except for the horns. He did this a lot, all on keyboards. He was an early innovator on synthesizers. When you hear a pretty basic drum part like this Stevie likely did that, also.
For more of this delicious era, see Gladys Knight & the Pips' On & On, Temptations' Papa Was A Rolling Stone, Curtis Mayfield's Superfly, and maybe Labelle's Lady Marmalade. Have fun!
Great reaction!....For a little something different from Stevie you might want to listen to Ribbon in the Sky and Lately, beautiful songs. Keep up the good work..
Perhaps a little obvious, but watch him live when you can. [Also must see "We Are The World", USA For Africa, written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie; many major stars raising money with Stevie having a big part, Ray Charles too, in the performance].
Nice! Glad you are adding some 70s Soul into your reactions my friend! Diversity is the beauty of that 70s music. Between the Rock and Soul of the 70s along with the other genres, even pop songs were incredible compositions when broken down. Stevie's run of albums from 1972-76 was some of the finest run of albums to come out of that era. So anything that you do from that period is golden. Stevie also started out as a child prodigy at age 12, and by 20 he was creating masterful work on his own. Your dad is right on track to suggest this as a starter. I recommend anything off of "Innervisions" for next. Keep up the great work here.
The version of this from the Beck, Bogart, and Appice album is amazing. You should give it a listen. More recently, Jeff Beck appeared with Stevie Wonder for a live performance of "Superstition". The lyrics you pulled up are probably transcribed from that performance.
Stevie Wonder is one of my favourite US musicians, along with Paul Simon, Art Garfunkel, Joni Mitchell and Carole King. I like almost all of Wonder's songs but Higher Ground is really special for me... All the best!
Stevie Wonder disappeared from the music scene while he went to college to formalize his music education. When he came back and began releasing these killer albums everyone was knocked off their feet. I was in the Air Force and his music rocked down the dormitory halls.
He basically improvised the whole song with Jeff Beck. Pure genius! Stevie could and usually did play everything, but he often brought in guitar players.
Cool reaction - I was gonna suggest some Stevie Wonder. "Talking Book" and "Innervisions" are required for any decent collection. I've heard this song hundreds of times - and I still gotta move. That horn part - killer. Genius - good choice - Listen to your Dad - he knows some stuff.
This is from talking book. A great album, but imho innervisions and songs in the key of life are even better! Hotter than July also getts an honorable mention. Please react to living for the city!
I had a big Stevie Wonder period where I was really into his stuff. He has a ton of great songs. Some recommendations: * For Once in My Life * Uptight (Everything's Alright) * Do Yourself a Favor * Love Having You Around * Maybe Your Baby Those are all from before 1973, which is a whole different kinda thing.
You mentioned Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" in your reading of Stevie Wonder. Suggest you give it a listen as it is one of my top 5 albums of all time that's meant to be listened to in its entirety like "Days of Future Passed".
Earlier this morning I was watching a video that suggests that Stevie isn't really blind. LOL. Lionel Richie, Shaquille O'Neal both believe he can see, but their theories are easily debunked. We've mentioned another blind artist, Jose Feliciano. He covered The Doors' "Light My Fire" in the manner that Robby Krieger originally intended. Jose plays guitar.
Daniel... Did you steal my iPod? Hahaha! 😂 I *love* everything you're doing! Keep it up! BIG thanks to your parents for raising an exceptional young man. You're one in a million! 💜💫✌🏻🎵
Stevie would often write and record an instrumental track, then later fill the wotds and such later. This is clear in the song Tears of a Clown sung by Smokey Robinson. Stevie reconded an instrumental track and weeks later Smokey wrote and sang the words and rest was finished in studio.
It’s not guitar. It’s Stevie doing some incredible clavinet playing.
What a musical genious!!
What a legend!
There will never be another Little Stevie Wonder.
So many great Stevie Wonder songs, Higher Ground, I Was Made to Love Her, You Are The Sunsine of My Life, Living for the City, If You Really Love Me, I Wish, Isn't She Lovely, Sir Duke, so many more

Dance-able song. 7 year old me dancing to this was not pretty. As it is today.
Remember, Stevie and Paul McCartney did a duet in the early 1980s "Ebony and Ivory".

@@firebird7479 Fire yea I was gonna say that but I was already pretty chatty
And then Higher Ground.

Instant stank face! This is one of the funkiest tunes known to man.
As someone who’s played trumpet for decades. I can tell you that the level of brass musicianship on this track requires an immense amount of talent and a lifetime of dedication.
This man truly defines the term “Legend”. His music is an absolute journey
Kudos for recognizing arguably pop music’s most-talented singer/songwriter/musician alive today! Absolutely no one even close to his level of artistic creative genius.
I love how your face changed when Stevie dropped the funk. He's a national treasure. Worth a good listen.
Great rabbit hole choice. His 70s albums are especially awesome.
😍
Totally. His albums from Talking book 1972 right through to Hotter Than July 1980 are just about the best body of work made by any artist ever. Innervisions and Songs In the Key of Life are stone-cold classic masterpieces.
The twelve year old genius (he started when he was 12). Just an amazing talent. Dozens of tunes to explore with this guy. Wonderful reaction.

There's video floating around of 13 year old Little Stevie Wonder playing harmonica on fingertips part 1 and 2. Killer.
He was an instant sensation with Fingertips
Stevie is one of very few true musical prodigies. Born to be a musician.
Wonder won best album grammys for "Innervisions" and "Songs In The Key of Life". When Paul Simon won an album grammy for "Still Crazy After All These Years" he thanked Stevie Wonder for not putting out an album that year.
Oh yeah! Mr Stevie Wonder, the king of groove! This song is so funky and the brass section!!! Love it. 🤗

Such an incredibly talented artist. Not only is he singing so incredibly but he is playing drums, clavinet (guitar sounding) keyboard, and moog bass.
That clavichord riff is legendary....
There is a live version with Jeff Beck sitting in, which is what the lyric transcription probably comes from.
Fingertips a song he wrote and performed when he was 13!!
I was just a little younger than that and loved that song in the way back.
Yes, Jeff Beck played on many sessions and live performances with Stevie.
I loved his “My Cherie Amor”, among others. True genius! You mentioned Deep Purple, their “Smoke on the Water” is amazing!
One of the all-time great songs... period.
Probably my personal favorite Stevie Wonder song.
"Living for the City" is a good, meaningful song by Stevie Wonder that reflects what's going on in the United States today. You ought to give that a listen!

Stevie loosed millions of midwestern white boys and girls from their minds into their bodies in the early to mid 70's. He was doing God's work! :)

Funkalicious!!
The lyrics were from a concert. If memory serves, Stevie wrote Superstitious with Beck in mind to record it.

Nothing much to add except I think this song could appear in the dictionary when you look up funk. And yes, Stevie is a genius.
Jeff Beck (mentioned in transcription of the lyrics) is the Stevie Wonder of the guitars...
Stevie is a force of nature
I saw him in concert in 1988 when I was 16 in his In Square Circle tour. Besides amazing music, I vividly remember him standing up and talking about racial harmony and love. When will we fully embrace this as a people? What he said really moved me though.
As Stevemd mentioned, Living for the City. Not only is the music exceptional, but you like looking at the lyrics.
This is great. Thanks.
Livin in the City, is a must!
‘Higher Ground’ and ‘I Wish’ are classics too.
One of the greats 👍
living in the city - Stevie Wonder
A great talent. Joyful.
They mentioned Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On?". A phenomenal song, you should hear.
"Superstition" is funky. Stevie's "Maybe Your Baby" is FUNKY!!!

Two great songs by Stevie: You Ain’t Done Nothing, and As.

Stevie is amazing. Saw him play in Portland, Maine during the "Hotter Than July" tour. He blew the lid off the joint!
This is one of Stevie Wonder's best tunes! Good pick! For fun, you might check out the OTHER Stevie's version of this song...Stevie Ray Vaughan!
