- In today's episode, we explore Vancouver Island! We'll start in Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, where we visit the oldest continuously operated yarn shop in North America, the Beehive Wool Shop, as well as fiber arts extravaganza, Knotty by Nature. Then we take in the gorgeous natural beauty of eastern and northern Vancouver Island. Then, I'll do some show and tell about my current knitting projects, and finally, we make a stop in Book Corner, where I show how you can use a stitch dictionary to make a beautiful scarf and improve the quality of your knitting.

Vancouver Island is lovely and Beehive is wonderful! I love following you on your journeys. I, too, like to make special yarn purchases when I travel. I get the fun of buying it, making it and remembering the trip when I wear it. I have been getting a lot of wear from my London cardigan and soon will be wearing my Salisbury cardigan. Oxford is in the planning stages. I always look for local yarn or dyers to support the community and have something that is special. I’m much more about buying for a general project (I.e., a sweater or shawl) so my purchases are usable. Thanks for you episode. ❤️🧶❤️
Hi Diane! I’m so glad you enjoyed the episode. And I love the idea of naming each knit for the place you obtained the yarn!
Thanks for showcasing the Island. I live close to where you would have arrived by ferry. I have Cape Scott on my ‘bucket list’ so I really enjoyed that segment. The fibre colour you chose at Knotty by Nature reminds me of the Pacific Ocean during a winter storm. I hope that as you spin and then knit it, you will remember Vancouver Island. Gotta go and watch part 2 now…😁🇨🇦
Thanks, Beverly!! How lucky you are to live on Vancouver Island - so much beauty, and the lifestyle vibe there is so appealing. I’m glad you enjoyed the episode!
Enjoyed your podcast thoroughly! Thankyou for all the information about Vancouver Island and also your information regarding knitting. I definitely hope I can find the book Harmony Guide to Knitting stitches.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it. I believe you can find used copies of the Harmony Guides on Amazon.
Is the wool, bamboo, cotton sock yarn washable?
Hi Carolyn, This is what the Beehive Wool Shop says on their website: “Machine wash cold water, gentle cycle. Lay flat to dry.” I haven’t knit it up myself yet to try but I assume I’ll machine wash it.
