Thank you so much for doing this series of videos. I got my two young sons retro pocket 3+ for Christmas time and your videos have been extremely helpful.
No problem! I didn't play it back in the day but I love getting to replay classics in widescreen. It's just such an awesome benefit of retro emulation when it works that well, especially for 2D stuff.
One game I didn't see tested that gave me some issues back on the 2+/3 was Paper Mario, and I figured it's one of the N64's biggest games so I thought I'd contribute. On Native resolution it has some stuttering during certain cutscenes/effects, but on 800x600 it runs almost perfectly and the tiny hiccups that occasionally happen are unnoticeable. Widescreen definitely doesn't work for it though, the background bugs out like crazy if you do. It's a little sad that Paper Mario doesn't run flawlessly at native resolution, but thankfully the game's art style makes the graphics hold up super well even at 800x600. Continuing to be impressed with this product, very glad I hesitated on the RP3 and waited a bit longer.
Nice! I only played this a few times in my youth. I'm looking forward to using the RP3+ as a console and upscale these. Can you do a video about Bluetooth control and using the RP3+ as a console? Maybe you have and I missed it?
Mine is right on the one that came with the thing, but wrong and unchangeable on the Pro/Updated version. Did you find a fix? Here's how far I am: I can MAKE the controller: map it, name it, etc, but I can't USE the damn thing.
My settings screen for the profiles is COMPLETELY different than yours. I am wondering if that got all changed around with an update since I am currently running the most recent version from the Google Play store.
Thank you so much for testing Sin & Punishment, I appreciate you! Nearly jumped out of my chair seeing it run like that on handheld with widescreen hacks. Can't wait to get my hands on my RP3+ now. And you're dead on about the controls, it was a game designed to take advantage of the largely unused alternative n64 controller grip, swapping the sticks is the way to go
I didn't have any luck following this. Very poor fps with everything I tried. On the other hand, when I use the glide64 final (10th anniversary) build, I can play goldeneye in 4k (2880 x 2160), 16:9, with 16x anisotropic filtering. Unfortunately, no widescreen hack, but the gameplay is smooth as butter. Could probably even drive the rendered resolution higher for many games. Edit: F-zero works fine at 4k (4:3). Perfect Dark needed to be lowered a bit, but still seems to run smooth in my short test. Honestly, I can't tell the difference between 720p and 4k on this small screen, but it may be noticeable if you were using this plugged into a tv/monitor.
Did you ever figure out what the issue was? I can’t figure out why it doesn’t work, I followed the guide (but I am on the free version) and my frames are crap.
This guide was useless on actually getting the games to play. Yeah they run but there is no guide on setting up keybids etc. Calling this a guide is like calling a pile of dough a pizza. Yeah it could end up being one with more work.
Does anyone know how to select a controller profile for MZP+ Pro? I can MAKE one on the latest update, just like with the PROFILE profiles, but I can't seem to choose it. All I wanna do is move N64 A and B from RP3+ X and A to RP3+ Y and B. Having A and B way up there at the android default makes hitting R kind of tight.
same issue for me, I had to copy the profile SN30 Pro and just unmap button A and button B to swap them and unmap the menu button to set it as the select button
Glad to help! For most games, honestly, N64 is easy to emulate on RP3+. It's really just about those few that need the right profile to display properly.
Man thank you so much. I hate standalone emulators to be honest, not just the fact that they cost money usually (for all features) but also they all have different interfaces and quirks to them, meanwhile my retroarch setup and knowledge are rock solid so I don't have to worry about this stuff there. This video is a life saver for me.

retroid pocket 3+ is pretty nice. its biggest downfall is lack of cooling. I didn't know it was passive cooling like cellphones. so when you play higher end emulation like ps2 it overheats and lags out. if it had proper cooling it could handle ps2/gamecube all day long. its biggest downfall is cooling. people say its not fast enough for ps2 but i got it working using aethersx2.... but after about 15 minutes the handheld gets stupid hot and then framerates drop as it thermal throttles.
