    Louis Armstrong changed American music. He was not just an entertainer, he was brilliant. One of the best white singers he played with was Bing, in Bing's true appreciation.

    Once upon a time popular music was performed by real musicians, singers, and entertainers.

    50 years later Louis Armstrong is still remembered with affection, admiration, and love by all who knew him. It’s their memories that keep Pops alive . The morning he died he appeared at the foot of my bed to say good by? and tell me I had a long time to live, but he would be waiting to see me, so not to be sad. We would be together again someday! Pops and I had a deep and lasting nonsexual love. I was friends with Lucille too, and even met his previous wife, who told me many things people didn’t know about him! It was 50 years ago that Pops died, I still feel close to him. I still love, honor, and admire him. He was right, it has been a long time being apart.

    This is wonderful and there are many wonderful (and young) contemporary jazz musicians who are keeping this legacy alive. Great music and players are not a thing of the past.

    I'm 69 years old too. 11/3/42, and I wouldn't trade one day of then with an eternity of now, musically. Check out Bing singing When the Folks High Up do the Mean Low down. He rocks!

    Whether today's music is "Crap" or not... this is obviously timeless. Good music is good music, regardless or who does it or when it's done. And because of this mere fact, Bing and Louis are just as good today as they were back in their day.

    Bing was a great singer. I wish he had done more numbers in a swinging mode. Most of his recordings were in the crooner mode but he can swing. It's fun to hear. Thanks for posting

    It's said this scene was recorded live, unlike the usual practice in Hollywood musicals, where performers lip-synched to an (often, ghosted) recording. Certainly, if it is live, that would account for the inescapable brio and sheer joy of this performance.

    Bing Crosby is still the best singer I've ever heard; Armstrong, as both an instrumentalist and as, of course, an innovator and pioneer is the more powerfully historic figure but when it comes purely to singing, Crosby was the best.

    @xRelyT1 -I have nothing against rap. In fact there isn't a musically prejudice bone in my body. "....if it grooves I dig it!" When a rap artist (or any other modern musical artist) casts a shadow of influence as long as Louis Armstrong has in popular music then we will all be in need of a heads up.

  • @xRelyT1
    @xRelyT1 12 років тому

    @mkjmstl1 same notes, same note structures.. just theyre played on new instruments. plus vocals is an instrument, you sing notes in the form words. lyrics are words. so with new ages of music there comes new words as lyrics.

    If this song was written by Cole Porter, someone certainly modified it, because rock n roll is mentioned in the lyrics and ole Cole was long gone by the time Bill Haley showed up.

    • @benmcdaniel
      @benmcdaniel 9 років тому +1

      Robert Bonter Cole Porter wrote this in 1956 and passed away in 1964.

    • @benmcdaniel
      @benmcdaniel 9 років тому +2

      So Cole Porter was not long gone by the time Bill Haley showed up. Rock and roll was already a common term when Cole Porter wrote this song.
