    This was a fun one! Shots were great and understanding the process of ensuring a mount like this is secured well was really interesting. Seems like a really useful and versatile mount!

    Yes your right safety first on the tools/gears that you are using while filming so that you can focus on filming not thinking it might fall or not.

      Exactly! A great suction cup is one thing, having the possibility to tie it down is another, and this has quite a lot of holes to be able to tie it down securely.

    Well I can't believe that $70 holds the Ronin and a camera :)) That's crazy! The suction cups are quite small but I guess they do the trick. I was looking for a looog time for some decent suction cups that are make for video, but man they are expensive ... plus you need the rest of the system to make it work. So I made my own! Haha! Maybe I'll make a video one day of the setup, or some behind the scenes, I'm planning to use the system on my short film/car scene. Thanks for the video, mate! Fun as always!

    Nice video! At the moment I do use the GoPro suction cup in combination with my GoPro. On smooth and clean surface it never let me down and I do film old (and sometimes expensive) cars. So I am more worried about the cars then my GoPro. Filming an old tractor was difficult. The surface was rough so there was no chance that the suction cup held in place. The GoPro dropped, but I had just minor scratches. By the way I go around 100 km/h when I am filming…
    Thanks as always for the good content!

    • @PhillipSkraba
      @PhillipSkraba  2 роки тому +1

      I use the GoPro cup sometimes, but more often a Pgytech cup, however, now after using this one I feel much safer using a 3 arm cup, especially being able to secure it so well, which is hard to do with the single arm cups. I can imagine rigging an old tractor is a lot more challenging. Thanks!

    Couldn’t you have used a filter on the Action 2 to allow interior view of the car, just like you used with the Sony? Mount looks cool, May have to invest in one.

    Hello, I actually purchased it and couldn't figure out why it's $50-$60 more expensive than anything else on the market. There are other triple suction cups for as little as $15. In your opinion is this worth $70 and do you think the performance is so much better than $15? I looked at the bottom and it seems the rubber or silicone is the same for all, as well as the clamp. What makes this so much better? Is it the 3 extended arms? What function do they have?

    I just got one! I am wondering what was that orange thing that you use to hold it to your car?

    • @PhillipSkraba
      @PhillipSkraba  2 роки тому

      Hi Patrick, it was a simple car kit for holding luggage to your car, you can find them on Amazon, or no doubt in the local car shop. It'll save your camera in case the cups fail, which I've seen happen.

  • @RadianFilms64
    @RadianFilms64 2 роки тому +2

    I think I like more the shots that are just with the camera, the Sony A7III. Because the shot is locked to the car, it looks more natural in my opinion. Plus is easier to achieve.

    • @PhillipSkraba
      @PhillipSkraba  2 роки тому +1

      I totally agree. My favourite are the Sony by itself, it feels the most natural, and surprisingly stable.

    • @RadianFilms64
      @RadianFilms64 2 роки тому

      @@PhillipSkraba Yes, totally agree! I think it's you follow and film another car or something like that, you can use the setup with a gimbel.

    • @PhillipSkraba
      @PhillipSkraba  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, exactly! I think this setup would benefit from a spring system, just to get rid of some of the vibrations, that would be all.

    • @RadianFilms64
      @RadianFilms64 2 роки тому

      @@PhillipSkraba yes, but we get into some expensive stuff here, haha! But also, I don't know the name of it, the two plates connected together with some steel cable, that you mount the gimbel and camera on top, that would really help a lot. I've seen a few of them, and also thinking of making something like that.

    • @PhillipSkraba
      @PhillipSkraba  2 роки тому +1

      I've been looking into those too, my friend Peter Lindgren made his own to go on his RC car. You can pick up one from Selens for around $100, I think for this setup something that'll handle 1.5-2kg would be best.

    Have you ever tried any other triple suction cup units? The Delkin Fall Gecko triple is very popular and you can take one of the suction cups off to use as a single. Waffling between the two.

    • @PhillipSkraba
      @PhillipSkraba  Рік тому

      I have them all, there was a point in time when I basically bought all the suction cup mounts that I could find, I have a huge box of them haha! The Delkin is cool, and you can use it as a triple, double and single which is cool, it's very well made and can be really swung around to match difficult mounting positions, much like this one. Both are very well made and incredibly solid. This is a much more "classic" mount that we see being used in feature films, 3 cups and a flat base, and it has a good point to mount the car straps, which for me are a must.
      Using a suction cup mount on a car is also about being responsible, that thing falling off and hitting someone or something at speed could not only damage your equipment but also seriously hurt someone, so at the end of the day, the suction cups are just there to keep it stable and in place, the car straps are there to keep that sucker down.

    So you’re going to trust putting a $3000 camera and $2500 lens on a $70 suction cup mount!!?? The Ulanzi suction cup mounts are MUCH MORE robust

    • @PhillipSkraba
      @PhillipSkraba  Рік тому

      I actually did last night funnily enough, still works great. You don’t trust any suction cup for that matter, that’s utter stupidity and dangerous to other road users, you strap and tether! The Ulanzi ones will do the job too, sure. This is cool as it’s three legged, it allows me to adjust it to the curves of the car and strap it down using the plate.

    • @rogalaphotography
      @rogalaphotography Рік тому

      @@PhillipSkraba Sorry dude… but the Ulanzi suction cups can be made into a tripod with FAR MORE suction than this piece of garbage!!! Six inch cups with an air removal pump creates unbelievable grip!…and YES I still use tethers!!!

    • @PhillipSkraba

      @@rogalaphotography Like I said, don't trust any suction cup. I have about 20 in my studio, from $20 cups to $200 Manfrotto cups, I wouldn't trust any of them without tethers or straps. This Telesin three mount cup I've used on a lot of occasions, and from personal experience it does a great job, but so do they all if you strap them down. The suction part is ONLY meant to keep them in place, it is NOT meant to keep them from falling off.
