      On the brightside from all I read, Google's algorithm doesn't differentiate between an up or down. They both count as a reaction which helps.

      I would never dislike the video because of how well done it is however I will admit, the music although great doesn't fit the vibe of a dead mall very well in my opinion. I really enjoyed the parts with just the sounds of the mall.

    Saw Wreck-it-ralph in that second-run movie theater, then immediately went to Arcade Legacy afterward. Good times. Looks like it closed in 2014 by the looks of the calendar. Story I heard was that the roof was leaking and The Screens owner (I think out of Columbus) had enough.

    This place keeps getting creepier. Especially the time warp the decor is... it affirms what American Consumers thought they wanted before the Great Recession hit. I mean, the pigs flying, it really sums it up. I had been to this mall in the 1990s, when I was a student in Oxford, we’d drive into some of the Cincinnati area malls to fill a Saturday, so I never saw it as this last remodel. I’m so glad you’ve covered it a few times Anthony, thank you.

    Ace, this is the first time I had to stop the video because the beginning was so touching. Tears are falling down my face right now. I was not expecting that. The combination of the song and the pictures of a mall without people is to much. Y’all need to check on us 80s mall kids, we are not ok. Lol Now, back to the video.

    This mall is so sad, I still love the concept here and I still think this mall would make an awesome village, or a town within a city. Apartments, post office, fire station, police station, gym, library, convenience store, newsstand, coffee shop, grocery store. I doubt this area would need or want that, but it is my vision for this place. Even couple restaurants and boutiques.

    I can remember the stores that are at the Grand Outlets at Saiger all day, but, here they are:
    The blue and yellow store is Westworld, and formerly Fitness Equipment and Supplies.
    The topical store is Next Clearance, formerly Next to Nothing and also N-E-X-T.
    The green triangles store is Camille Lingerie, and formerly Duxia.
    One of the curved stores is Antler Outlet, and formerly Cia-Dix.
    This store looks like a Forever 21 but it actually used to be The Designer Room, and before that Yorkshire Fashion Depot.
    This store is actually Claire’s Outlet, and FastLooks before that.
    The store with the sale thing is Klass, and formerly Kaylina Clearance.
    The curtained store is Roman Originals, and formerly Hay.
    The blue store is Hallmark Cards.
    The army store is Bags Etc, and formerly Bags Extra.
    The lime store is Game, and formerly Rainbow Games.
    Another curved store is Pilot.
    The little seen store is Monsoon.
    The counter store is Baskin Robbins, and formerly Ice Cream at Cookie Jar.
    The walled off store is Le Creuset, formerly Bed and Bath Works, and also Systemos.
    The flowers store is Tog24, and formerly Zeino.
    3 of the shopfronts are merged into The Sony Centre (The Hive), and formerly Grove.
    The big store is Gap Outlet, and formerly Outlet World.
    Another big store is Nike Factory Store.
    But let’s go down into the Food Court though.
    There are a lot of restaurants down here. There is a Burger King here, as well as a Spud-u-Like, KFC, Toilets, The Fishery, Subway, News Empire, Watch Pairs, Yangtze, Café Europa, and Little Italy. That wasn’t there when the mall opened, the food court opened in 1998.
    The light blue store is Marks and Spencer Outlet, and formerly Rouge.
    The arcade store is Jaeger.
    The windows store is Billabong, and formerly The Coast.
    The store next to Child’s Play is Austin Reed.
    Another walled off store is Origin Outlet Fashions.
    The white store is Sports Direct, formerly Lillywhites, and also Bix Sports.
    The store next to be is Crabtree and Evelyn, and formerly Nailsioa.
    Wow! There’s a info desk here, and near that is the UCI/Odeon cinema.
    The other blue store is The Works, formerly Book Depot, and also Book’z’.
    Another curved store is Bedeck, and formerly Linens by Alaneoek.
    The blue and white store is Reebok.
    Another curved store is Julian Graves, and formerly The Health Tree.
    The Beauty Express and black stores are together to form The Beauty Outlet.

    The calendar gave me a time frame. I had been thinking they must have shuttered the theater at the tail end of the full switch to digital. Some theaters couldn't afford the new equipment so they just closed rather than be forced to upgrade before the studios stopped shipping physical prints. I was a projectionist in a place with the exact same platters and projectors. A lost art for sure.

    • @SynchroSk8
      @SynchroSk8 4 роки тому +3

      That’s what I was thinking as well, the switch to digital was pretty costly for many of the theaters.

    • @Sunsetdrivein
      @Sunsetdrivein 4 роки тому +2

      At 17:30 starts the tour of the projection booth. Still has the xenon consoles and platter systems. Heck, it even looks like the amplifiers are still there too. I'd have to agree that the switch to digital video projection was an expensive one many theaters could not afford. So some of them simply closed.

    • @BoratWanksta
      @BoratWanksta 4 роки тому +2

      I really get a strong feeling the last operational theater at Cincinnati Mills, must've closed not long after Tomorrowland came out in May 2015. After all there is a note in the projection booth area, that showed screening times for that movie. Also in another part of walking around the upstairs, that you see a 2014 calendar. My money is probably around sometime in May or June 2015, that this theater shuttered for good. Wouldn't be surprised if it closed at the end of May, if say that was when its lease expired and they didn't want to renew it.

    Great video. Bought back many memories of walking through this mall when it was in it's heyday. Biggs Hypermarket (A huge grocery store that also had general merchandise as well) was it's biggest anchor store. The mall did not have any of the well known anchors such as Penny's or Sears. I think the fact that Tri-County Mall just a couple of exits down and the Northgate Mall not that far away had to do with the mall's failure which I believe the owners of the mall filed for bankruptcy within a year that it opened. When this place was lit up and bustling with business it was a spectacle to be seen. One of a kind mall architecture with vibrant lighting throughout made this mall the best. The only other malls that even coming close to competing was the City Center Mall in Columbus (now gone) and the Union Station Mall that was in Indianapolis (gone as well.) After Biggs Hypermarket left the mall basically went downhill. There have been at least a couple attempts to bring the mall back, but without acquiring some big well known anchor stores, everything is left as you see it here. So sad :(

    I went to this mall for the first time since this COVID outbreak and it’s in pretty bad shape. The place just had tons of empty kitty litter cans to catch rainfall from the leaks in the roof. That and there’s visible water damage and holes in the walls everywhere else throughout the place. Even the Kohl’s entrance is locked from the place. Once Arcade Legacy closes...they’ll seal the mall off and shut it down. I’m surprised there isn’t squatters in there at this point.

    Those clothes, right? You don't know what you just came across, bro.
    Here is my story.
    I went to the mall several years ago. Probably well over a decade. It was so long ago that the Biggs's was still open as an outlet store or whatever. Most of the inside was roped off. I was poking around and probably around what had been at one point the produce section and near these swinging doors I saw this wire. It baffled me. I did not know why that wire was there. And then sh** got real. Two figures emerged from those doors and walked in my direction. They didn't even seem to notice me. It was a woman and child. Let's just say they looked like they were from 'some other place'. The woman had a fucking laundry basket. She took clothes from that basket and nonchalantly hung them on that wire.
    So yeah, the impression was the mall was letting people LIVE inside some of the closed off spaces. And yeah, that means human trafficking.

      @Chi Rimbert it was time out on the court. Good chunk of the lower area of the mall across from the food court had TONS of arcade games, Lasertag Second floor had midway games and (as well as a burned out food court) some small rides. There was a ferris wheel in the middle of the food court as well.
      As a kid it was the best place to spend a crappy Ohio winter day.

      Back in the 80s when that place was 1st built, it was a really nice place to hang out, small amusement rides, indoor puttputt golf, the 1st interactive VR machines in the area, Lazer Tag, Electronic interactive Batting cages... Even an "at the time" Retro Style 2nd run theater... Then a little while later they put the Bourbon St. In then you had lines spanning the upper level across numerous store fronts waiting to get in this multi genre night club/bar/saloon... Everything a Teen/Young Adult could want...

    The largest mall in the state of Ohio (post-Randal Park Mall) and it is BASICALLY abandoned; but yet STILL OPEN! How is this even possible?!
    BTW... Happy late/belated Independence Day (in 2021 that is); I thought the whole "America (the Beautiful)"-song thing was perfect for this, especially showcasing the American flag at the end of the song.

      This was the design popular in many Mills Corporation malls in the 90's. Mills was trying to build malls that were a destination. They used alot of quirky bright colors and decor. I live within a stones throw of one of their last built malls, Ontario Mills. The mall opened with the same quirky color scheme and decor. Since Simon took it over its being slowly replaced with more mainstream decor.

    Man I spent a lot of time there as a teen when it was Forest Fair! We partied hard at the old Bourbon Street bar area. My girl worked at the old Elder Bier-men department store😂... Hell we even had after prom there! Ya it’s sad to see it just all rot away😔Thanks for the trip down memory lane man👍🏼

    A very nice completely dead mall that was built on a whim, poorly managed, and doomed to failure.

    The sister mall to this, Pittsburgh Mills, has to be worse. JCPenny's is closing, Victoria's Secret is gone, Sears is gone. The movie theater is gone.

    • @BoratWanksta
      @BoratWanksta 4 роки тому

      I'm amazed Pittsburgh Mills still barely hangs on as a mall, myself. At least Saint Louis Mills is being renovated into a sports venue complex, called the PowerPlex. And technically, there's 3 sister Mills malls Simon chose to sell off. Which was Cincinnati Mills(Forest Fair), Saint Louis Mills, and Pittsburgh Mills. Saint Louis Mills lost all anchors except for Bass Pro Shops and a Regal multiplex in recent years, and in early 2019 the Regal theater closed.
      BTW, Pittsburgh Mills was the last of those 3 malls to be constructed. And I always have gotten the sense that by the time Pittsburgh Mills was constructed, that they cut back on all the typical Mills Corp. style decor that was inside. It still exists, but there's more of that type of decor on the interior of Saint Louis Mills, and also Cincy Mills/Forest Fair.

    Thanks for the Video footage, as this will be going to the Forest Park PD for Breaking & entering as you cut the locks to access. You or any of your staff are not allowed on the premises.
