X-Men 97 Bishop review. Reminder why I dropped Marvel Legends a while back

- Some time ago, after further evaluating my collection, how I felt, what I saw toy companies do, etc... Hasbro MLs and others were on my cut off list.
Now, I've kept a handful of a few select Legends that have sentimental value for me but, all others... Sold, or traded off. And I don't miss them.
Anyway, here's a Furious review, and I'm rather disappointed because I WANTED to like this line... But no.

The figure is made to look like the animated series and they did a good job of giving it a more cartoon look. Mezco Bishop is like 2-3 times the price of a Legend, not a good comparison.
Again, it's subjective. And we'll see the animation soon but personally, just not digging it. OG bishop is way better. And I was just showcasing why I preferred Mezco bishop. Not necessarily a direct comparison
Saw him on Amazon for 64 last week, thought about gettin a second mezco bishop😳

I disagree. People compare different figure brands all the time despite its price and swear that ML look way better which is a flat out lie. ML has been dropping the ball with their QC for quite some time, their packaging, increase in price that being said there are a few figs that still hold up and look great for example the Doc Oct from the VHS box looks amazing
@@angelespinoza3925 Legends has some advantages. Legends scale well and there are some figures that I think are better in legends. Those comparisons are with the expectation of imports being a higher quality.
Love your attitude and review. This is why I collected the OG 90s Uncanny X-men figures. But damn, that Mezco Bishop is DOOOOPE. Definitely subscribing.
I like the figure myself which was a surprise as I had no interest in the X-Men 97 figures when they were first announced, but I do think a lot of your criticisms about the figure and the line in general are valid. We do seem to be at a fork in the road where we’re going to have to choose between quality and quantity, because it’s becoming obvious that we”re not going to get both in today’s economy. I think that may be why some collectors, including myself, are having a tough time letting go. Quality brings you long term satisfaction, but quantity brings you immediate gratification, and many of us, whether we want to admit it or not, are all about the immediate gratification.
Thank you for getting what I mean. Ultimately, it's not a bad or horrible figure. Overall it's a great update, but not the update I preferred.

I got this line purely for nostalgia purposes. I typically only collect 1/6 these days but this line reminded me of my childhood and my love for the X-Men animated series and Toy Biz action figures I had. Have these sitting on my desk currently and loving them.
I'd be right there with you had it not been for the slight new reinforcements on the figures appearance by hasbro/ Disney. I really wanted to like this line and hoped it would salvage hope back in hasbro. But no, unfortunately didn't happen. I'm still holding onto my 93 toybiz classic line.

I definitely gave up on Hasblo as well. Got tired of their ridiculous prices and horrible QC.

Man I Miss the 90s, every release from marvel/disney/Star Wars has to be PC clean or inclusive or else… bishop is the quintessential 90s character now it seems he wants join a Korean boy band, and mezco bishop is only $60 shipped on Amazon I agree he is the best bishop we have so far

Nice review Fury, and I owe you some thanks here. I was originally going to mention That the only other figure of the wave I have, other than Bishop, is the Storm, which I'm not crazy about but I'm a Storm completist so whaddayagonnado, and while I agree with almost all of your comments about Hasbro I love this Bishop, despite the missing mullet because I don't have a Bishop and I couldn't afford the Mezco Bishop... or so I thought. Damn if looking for what the aftermarket price on the Mezco would be, I saw Amazon had this guy for sixty dollars. Still expensive, but combine 20 dollars in rewards, I got him forr40 bucks. That's value on any planet. Couldn't pass that up. And I thank you for making me look. Seriously.

Lets be honest Hasbro is not above putting out bad figures. When they do things right like the Elektra Dare Devil figure they get their props. However when they put out crap like those Eternals figures they need to be told the truth. Like hey those figures suck don't make figures like that again. You can tell after a few successful HasLab project, Hasbro started getting full of themselves. Which is no one wanted to buy the dumb expensive Ghost Rider car. Giant Man was almost not a project without outside backers. I actually have that Mezco Bishop as well and I prefer it over the XMen 97 Bishop. I have the MAFEX Magneto as well and I wouldn't choose the XMen 97 Magneto over the MAFEX Magneto. Great video man and just know you can't change the minds of these die hard Hasbro fans that buy any and everything Hasbro promotes. Hasbro could sell them poop on a plate and they would still pay top dollar to Hasbro.

I also think your dissatisfaction with the 97 Bishop is with the source aesthetic and design. This is based on the upcoming cartoon while the Mezco Bishop is based Jeanty grim post apocalyptic art in The Last X-Man. Both represent the styles pretty well but you (and I) prefer the Mezco design.
We can’t really blame Hasbro on this one.
Is this really a fair comparison? Comparing a retail version of a cartoon character to a high end collectable is like comparing apples and oranges.
A figure under $30 is going to be different than one over $80. You get what you pay for.
Its not a comparison. I was only stating why I preferred the mezco bishop. There's a few pros about the ML that is better or more accurate than mezco. But there's a few other amenities that make mezco cooler.

Marvel legends makes great toys for their price, any comparison to much more expensive lines is irrelevant. For what they are, they are great. People just complain about everything. And the recent haslab did work bro. Got almost 14k backers
It wasn't a comparison but more of a preference, just for me.
As I stated, I don't have the original bishop to put side to side but just briefly explained why I still prefer the og bishop. And although this is a good bishop update, it's not the bishop I would have preferred. That's all. As far as the haslab... I'm sure the marvel haslab team was sweating. But good for them, because the team better get some better projects goin for future haslabs with surety of backing

You can waste your money on a McDonald's toy look alike or you can save up for a week and get yourself an actual collectible with accessories, paint work, swappable heads, blast effects, clothe goods and a much better sculpt. Not really a hard choice and considering that bishop has gone down in price it's going for like $60
In this case Mezco wins. But Legends makes more comic accurate, better proportioned, better scaled, better articulated comic figures on most occasions.
The only company doing it better is Mafex.
You're correct on scaling. SOME Hasbro legends missed the mark but yes, I agree... Mezco does miss accurate size and scaling. Mezco bishop and cable should be larger in scale. Thank you for your feedback!

Marvel Legends is a trash product. No paint limited articulation. Reuse of all kinds of parts. No accessories. Rarely any kind of swappable head sculpts. Yes Mezco is more expensive because you get what you pay for. It's a far better value for your money. ML looks like a McDonald's toy my dude. Just my opinion but it's a shared one amongst Alot of seasoned collectors.
Mafex price on discounts here and there come awfully close to Legends
