    I used to work for Louis Newmark in the late 1970's. At that time they had long since ceased making their own cheap, pin pallet watches in Croydon, and had moved to Reigate , where they were agents for Avia watches. They are no longer in Reigate, and for all I know, no longer in existence.

    This is a very nice watch! Kind of reminds me of the Zodiac Sea Wolf. They do really need to move the date higher above the 6 or between 3 and 4 with dial background color to not break symmetry. The bracelet is superb! The no date option may be more popular due to date numbers breaking into 6 but then it may get a ghost click on the stem.:p Thanks for introducing us to it!

    Really nice watch... if I didn't already have a blue Hydroconquest and a white Kraken on the way (and a few Seiko divers in the drawer), I'd def go for this blue beauty! Good review man!

    Love it! The bezel edge and being 60 clicks is a huge plus. Case and bezel insert? Excellent. 200m, more than you need. Like but don’t love the dial but the lume is absolutely amazing. Micro brands are ruling these days.

      It has a ball bearing click mechanism too, so it's an awesome action as well

    Nice piece but kickstarter is no longer an option for me. Too many issues. Keep up the great content.

    Beautiful watch. This reminds me a little bit of the Nodus Contrail 39. I just got the blue version of that one, so I'm probably not pulling the trigger on this one, but I would love to have that silver dial. Great value for the money.

    It's a good looking watch starting to get overwhelmed with all the different divers coming out almost weekly .

    Holly c..p, the size alone makes me want to try this one on. It looks like a Zodial Super Sea Wolf dial.
    Excellent video as usual

    I'm in. Excellent specs and size for my undersized wrist. Awesome colour and I might even punt for my first 12 hour bi-directional bezel. I usually dislike the numbers dial but appreciate this is a re-modelled vintage design and it works. It is a bit like an affordable sea wolf. Great review.

    Another awesome review. This is a handsome piece. Not a bad asking price either with all considered and you pointed out. I feel there have been a recent resurgence in these specific type of vintage dive style dials... the ones that some I may call "kontiki" or "vintage sea wolf" style. Prior to that, I would say vintage Tudor sub was the most recent trend.. either the triangle and circle indices version of the square or "snowflake" style indices... and, they aren't the only vintage brand to have such styles, but maybe the most predominant in my mind. But, I have no problem with modern reissues or vintage-inspired designs as long as they are done well and offer great value per quality.
    I have an order for a custom watch by H20, the Tiburon, which is inspired by vintage dive watches (no surprise).. look up Jaquet-Droz for some examples, but I feel maybe they are also heavily drawn from a mix of vintage Triton Spyrotechnique and modern Triton Subphotique (a grail watch for myself).. but for a lot less.. for around $1k, not bad considering the build and number of custom options.. they do offer the kontiki style dial as well, but I opted for the vintage Triton version as that is the style that I like more. Basically, I will recreate a vintage Triton Spyrotechnique as much as possible but in a more modern package... would love an original vintage model, but last I checked they've been selling for north of $8k.. uh, not happening anytime soon. Even the modern Subphotique is going to be at around mid $4k which is something to save up for, but more within the realm of possibility IF I really want it.
    Sorry, off topic, but sort of related.. anyways, I would go with the no date version of this Newmark.. that date window execution is not great on the date version you have.
    btw, since you did make a brief mention of the brand, I do love and enjoy my NTH Nacken Renegade. I find the gripes on using Miyota movement are lame. It is not that noisy.. at least I have to put the watch to my head to begin to hear it. And, even if I could feel the rotor wobble, it is not a bad thing for me. I enjoy that gyration when I've owned a watch with a 7750 which I definitely can almost always feel with a flick of the wrist. Additionally, the Miyota can be really a solid reliable and consistently accurate movement. Synced since 5/27/2019 and continuously worn since then and continued to the time of writing of this comment, I'm only at +7.5 secs (after 11 days). You can get nice thin(ner) watch cases utilizing a Miyota and even if the movement isn't considered expensive, it's not cheap or poor working at all. Quite the contrary. And, with all that, that's a good thing so the brand can concentrate on delivering more to the rest of the watch package and experience within a very reasonable price. I believe the same ideas for a positive experience can be applied with this Newmark watch as well.

    This watch has a lot of positive features, however Newmark is not a startup company, using Kickstarter is such a negative for me.
    If I buy a watch, I don’t want to 4 to 6 months to receive a new watch. I’ll just keep wearing my Phoibos PY007 which has basically the same features for less money.

    • @kevinslegg1576
      @kevinslegg1576 5 років тому +1

      Hang on - the original Newmark Company went bust. As said in the review they have just been revived and the owner of the new company is obviously a watch enthusiast who is trying to bring back some of their great watches from the past. This is actually only the 2nd Watch they have released - so I'm not sure why KS is a 'negative'? Phoibos PY007 is a nice watch - but frankly this one has a nicer bracelet and IMHO, better looks (although of course that is a personal view). The price difference is marginal at best. I can quite understand why 1 person might prefer the Phoibos - but that doesn't make the Newmark71 'bad'.

      Kevin Slegg, Kickstarter, well I don’t mind a little wait when I order a watch, but most of the ones I seen the lede time from launch to delivery is around 6 months. I ordered a Helm Komodo at launch and had it five days later.

    Very attractive, but I wish the indices were applied. The printed "12", "3", "9" are a little weird.

      interesting take, many of the divers from the era this was being re-issued from do have an overall similar aesthetic, so it does make sense that it'd hit similar notes

    it's nice but I bet it rattles like crazy because of Miyota movement. Don't mind it on a normal watch but not on a diver.

    Ive never done a Kickstarter, is the issue the wait time to get the watch?

    • @zezem
      @zezem 5 років тому

      There's usually a wait, sometimes 6 months or so; depends on the manufacturer. There is also a risk. If the supplier doesn't fulfill the pledge, there isn't much you can do - cash lost. Several microbrands have released watches this way. Hamtun always do it. Ventus have just done one and the established French brand Yema currently have a bronze one live. Obviously, there is more of a risk with brands with no history.

      Not worth it. The vast, vast majority of companies take your money then do a crap job on the production watches. Happens way too often. Why? Well, it's easy to see. They already have your money, so why put in any extra effort, better more expensive finishing/materials? They already have been paid so they ALWAYS go the cheapest route possible! No one ever goes beyond expectations once they've already been paid. Companies that actually have to attract you with a watch that's already made HAVE to impress or they will die out. Kickstarter companies are lazy in comparison. Not all, but 99.99% of them are. Just the nature of it.
