Y’all are Epic Geniuses from the Ages of Mechanical Wizardry which is beyond Impressive. I never knew. It’s crazy how we simply just take such Perfection for granted. I am in awe. So much Respect for the Minds that Invented & brought such into Reality.

This was awesome and I learned some new things. I can see why mainsprings are so difficult to make. From one watch lover to another I thank you!

Fantastic easy explanation of mainspring. Very satisfied. My question is why some of the watches are very loose or stiff to handwind? Is it because of the thickness or length of the mainspring?

Shows you how much I know... I always thought these "unbreakable" watch spring were made from spring steel... Thank you for sharing!😄

When Frederique Constant introduced the monolithic silicone escapement, they had to reduce the torque off the mainspring. They accomplished this by adding another wheel to the gear train. Supposedly that reduction doubled their power reserve.

amazing on how main springs work, however, I love the new modern solar powered watches that give a watch unlimited power for a few decades provided that it is always getting any kind of light sources.

I appreciate and love both for what they are, I have an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m and a Breitling Superocean II 44mm, but I also have a Seiko solar quartz pro dive chronograph and a Citizen Ecodrive, I rotate wear them all and will never part with any of them, I don't understand the mechanical vs quartz arguments and animosity.

Yeah it’s a revelation for those with less money. The greatness of luxury mechanical timekeeping is only available to the select few

i prefer a old 100 yea rpocket watch thats keeps running 100 years later.with th same iron carbon mainspring

Old carbon steel mainsprings have many downsides and do not last long. That is why they were replaced. They rust, they also become set and loose their power. They also break from winding and unwinding stress. Just because you wind it up and it “runs” does not mean the old mainspring is good.
