Kept the general design of the suit, while still upgrading it to something aesthetically pleasing for a live action version. Completely badass IMO. It’s one of the reasons this movie is my favourite DC movie
@Christine Felice It is kind of amazing, but then people have been updating character designs for decades, and very few look exactly like their original/debut comic counterparts these days.
@Sam Eastgate Exactly! There are some insanely goofy designs and looks in the old comics, but that doesn't mean they can't work in live action. Heck, a prime example of this is Joker from Batman. In the comics, he's always got extremely silly expressions on his face, and the green hair and purple suit would seem overly flamboyant by today's standards... but then you look at Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger's look, design, and way of playing the role. Similar enough to the comics, but with just enough of a redesign to look and feel intimidating. I do like how both DC and Marvel are branching out with their characters and villains, not just using the same over-used IPs like Batman, Superman and Spiderman... and even if the villains are kind of goofy looking, it's nice that there are people who put in real effort to make them worthwhile looking enemies by today's standards.
@Isaac Altman And you know what? That's ok. That's your decision and your prerogative. Not everyone has to like the same things. I like the movie, you do not. Nothing wrong with that at all.
What really amazes and impresses me is that, out of everything and I mean EVERYTHING that could have been and was CGI, Black Manta was 100% real, practical costume... and it’s the one effect that you’d think they’d CGI for sure, but they made it for REAL. Bless James Wan.
I agree, when James Wan directs action he lets the camera follow the characters with barely any cuts. Not only letting the audience see the action but also be part of it.
Black Manta Suit really stole the show. They captured the design perfectly. I was watching the action breakdown by James Wan and this sequence was crafted very meticulously.
He’s very cool and has great potential but his problem is how linear he is. His only goal is to kill Aquaman. He’s never known for anything else. Deathstroke is a notable enemy of Dick Grayson, Batman AND Green Arrow, and aside from them he is known as the worlds deadliest mercenary. I wish DC would expand Manta more so he was more useful. In Injustice 2 a lot of his into dialogue with meta humans reveals that he has a common hatred for all meta humans, not just atlanteans which is a good direction for him honestly, it’d be nice to see him move beyond a grudge over one man and his kingdom to generally being nothing but a human who’s driven and devoted to hunting metas. Big game hunter kind of character.
I want a live action Darkseid done properly but we all know the normies who only watch marvel movies (watch not even read comics) will call him a Thanos ripoff
Great action scene. No shaky cam or blurred shots, just lovely wide clear view shots so you actually see what's happening. Although the end battle did let things down a bit by having an overcrowded screen.

I really like how the action is shot. It's very different from all the other action in movies like this where there's tons of shaky cam, close-ups, and quick-cutting. That's somewhat present here, but what's most prominent are the tracking shots that follow the action in wide shots that show everything happening, like it's happening in the world at large so we can see how it plays out and effects their environment. It's ingenious in its simplicity, but perfect in its execution as it trails the guy jumping through walls, seamlessly moving from the inside, out the window, to follow Mera running along the rooftops. It carries a lot more intensity than if it were just a series of a bunch of quick-cut close action shots of jumping and sliding. Gives the world scale and momentum.
What Aquaman did in the beginning was arguably unnecessarily cruel but it's not like his father didn't have it coming. It does however make for a great motivation for the villain that's actually based on a legitimate moral failing of the protagonist.
The woman was so dead inside after Aquaman broke through the ceiling, after she dusted the place, that she didn't care what was going to happen to her.

And one of them was at Least looking comic accurate.
Black manta is one of the most badass villains in DC. he's pretty much like a combination of Ironman and deathstroke. Yet he is so underrated
Good thing Iron Man and Deathstroke not rockin those vintage Power Rangers costumes.

Arthur had a harder time fighting black manta than ocean master.
Andres Hernandez maybe because he was fighting on land and didn't have any weapon to fight back. In Sea he could move as fast as he wanted but on land he is slow and to make it worse black manta has weapons and can fly.
Arthur had the Trident of Poseidon when he fought Ocean Master so he had no chance, but at least he was at least able to hold his own even when Arthur had the Trident.
Black Manta would just get evaporated if he fought Arthur with the Trident, he even lost against him when he had the weapon advantage and the element of surprise.
Ocean Master did defeat Aquaman quite easily underwater with equal weapons.
Black Manta will probably have his suit upgraded like have those lock on missiles that shoot from his shoulders and have more technological enhancements.
