She passed away today!!! Such a loss to the music world!!
Please leave country music alone. Until I saw you the first time on youtube I never heard of you and I don't think you will EVER be as famous as Dolly or Loretta. Thumbs down!
coat of many colors by Dolly Parton
Maggie..the next one you could react to is Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue by Crystal Gayle. One I remember greatly as a kid.
There is a very specific region of the country where the words Hard and Tired rhyme. My family is from that region and hearing this song always makes me miss my grandmother something crazy.
👍🌺👍
Yeah, the diction was pretty good actually, you just aren’t used to words being pronounced like that. It’s her accent and it’s an integral part of the song for me.
Btw, if you ever travel through those parts, if you’re asked if you want something ‘hated’, you’re being asked if you want it heated. Took us Okies, who are normally pretty good at deciphering accents, several seconds to figure that one out.
@hookedonreactions7649 Here in western Georgia, war = wire, far = fire, rainch = wrench (or rinse), flar = flour or flower. At least for my parent's generation and older. You know you're listening to real country when hard and tired rhyme. I'd say "tard" is next level tired.😂
@@hookedonreactions7649 I didn’t have any trouble with it. Like I said my family is from the same area as Loretta so I grew up listening to that accent and it gives me the greatest memories of my childhood.
So glad Loretta made it to the channel. She is such an important part of country music history. Great reaction and I'm glad you enjoyed her... strong twang and all :D
Yes! Thank you! So happy to hear great voices! 🌺🥰
@@maggiereneemusic Just wondering if you've done any reactions to Patsy Cline? I've been enjoying your reactions, just found you in the past couple days.
@@maggiereneemusic When you get a chance I recommend You'll never leave Harlan alive live by Patty Loveless. In her live performance she gives a brief explanation that might help you understand the song and where it's coming from. I consider it abit of a tribute to those like my Grandpa who dug coal.
Loretta is known as the "First Lady of country music" it's a title well deserved!!!
Thank you for your comment. Hope to see you tomorrow on my Premiere of a new reaction video to Jeannie C Riley?
My family was from the same general area as Loretta's. My maternal grandfather was a coal miner. My paternal grandfather worked for the railroad. Her diction was clear to me. I am fluent in hillbilly
My Granddaddy was from the mountains of southwestern Virginia and my Grandma was from a small rural town in North Carolina. I love the diction and accents they had. I don't realize how thick my Southern accent us until I'm around people from other parts of the country.
She was a Grandmother by 28. Her oldest daughter got married at 14.
In those days, music producers would rarely allow songs to be more than three minutes, because radio stations wanted more breaks to play advertisements.
The wife and I saw her live when she was 83. It was a smal auditorium. she was great. You just get a certain feeling when a legend walks on stage
The 1980 bio-pic of the same name is worth a watch, with Sissy Spacek playing Loretta and Tommy Lee Jones as her husband Doo. Also worthy of mention are Beverly D'Angelo as Patsy Cline and Levon Helm, lead singer and drummer of The Band, playing her father (in a non-singing role). Spacek and D'Angelo sang all their own songs, doing an excellent job. Sissy Spacek singing the title song doesn't simply cover the piece -- she channels Loretta!
The story of how Spacek was cast is one of those great old Hollywood stories. Loretta, who always thought of herself as having a bit of extrasensory perception, picked the young singer/actress from a headshot in a stack of photos. As she was flipping through them, she stopped suddenly, pointed at the image, and said in a somewhat awe-filled voice, as if remembering the face, though they had not yet met, "There's the coal miner's daughter!" The film received seven nominations at the 53rd Academy Awards, including for Best Picture, with Spacek winning Best Actress. At the 38th Golden Globe Awards, it got four nominations and won two -- Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy and Best Actress for Spacek. So it would seem the coal miner's daughter did know a thing or two about the second sight, after all.
In 2018, while accepting a CMA Award on behalf of Loretta, Spacek said, "From the moment we met, she's been my cheerleader, my sister, and my best friend. And it's like that almost 40 years later."
Loretta Lynn is still with us, and turned 90 this past April.
"Coal Miner's Daughter" is a song written and recorded by American singer-songwriter Loretta Lynn. It's a story of Loretta's life growing up.
She speaks fluent "Appalachian" a combination of Scot Irish, early American and rural southeastern rural country folk.
Thank you for your comment. Hope to see you tomorrow on my Premiere of a new reaction video to Jeannie C Riley?
She was raised in Butcher Hollow Kentucky.
She's singing her true story about being raised in a poor family in the Appalachian mountains.
Dolly Parton was raised in the Smokey Mountains which are part of the Appalachian range.
First (edit: it's Fist) City, Don't Come Home A Drinking, and You Ain't Woman Enough are three of my favorite Loretta Lynn songs. Her song the Pill was banned from the radio when it came out. All time favorite country singer of all time.
Thank you for your comment. Hope to see you tomorrow on my Premiere of a new reaction video to Jeannie C Riley?
Right. Isn‘t it „Fist city“? Not sure though…. ♥️😀
@@losmosquitos1108 dang autocorrect!!!!!!!
I remeber Loretta coming to Merlefest in North Wilksboro NC. she was sick and couldnt sing that night, but she came on stage anyway and played her guitar, it was either daughters or granddaughters or nieces, that sang for her. It still stands out to me that at her age, and being sick, she still was determined to fulfill her commitment to appear and entertain. She is One of my Top 3 Women in Country Music.
Thank you for your comment. Hope to see you tomorrow on my Premiere of a new reaction video to Jeannie C Riley?
I went to high school with 2 of Loretta Lynn's Great Nieces Tara(Arender)Thompson and Stacy Arender. Tara follows her Great aunts footsteps and is a country singer. Stacy is a real estate agent both live in the Nashville area
Cool! 🤗
@@maggiereneemusic her granddaughter also sings and tours singing these songs and Conway Twitty's grandson tours and sings his songs as well as the duo songs.
This song is a national treasure and this particular performance is a masterpiece.
Classic country
This particular song is based on her true life as a child growing up. It tells of how hard it was for her back then.
The original written version is much longer. She was told to cut it down to record it. This version, in her handwriting, is on display in her Cosl Miner's Daughter Museum on her ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee (She bought the ranch and the town at the same time).
The background was done by the Jordanaires. That means that the bass could be Ray Walker. The Jordanaires sang backup for Elvis.
I'm sure you've heard that old show biz saying, "Always leave them wanting more!".
She sings the way she spoke - with a country twang.
If you haven't seen the movie, you really should watch it. She was an amazing woman!👍♥️🤘 This song was all about her childhood.
Always loves me some Loretta Lynn, still amazing and still one of the greatest country singers of all time!💖💖💖
Thank you for your comment. Hope to see you tomorrow on my Premiere of a new reaction video to Jeannie C Riley?
Loretta was my mommy's favorite singer..RIP Queen of country music
I understand every world!
You read all the awards she was given and all the records she sold. There is no denying that she was number one in country music for a couple of decades. A snooty, East Coast reporter who shall remain nameless, was interviewing Loretta and she sniffed a couple of times and looked down her nose at Loretta and rudely asked, "Loretta, do you think maybe if it weren't for your accent you might have gotten further in your career?"
Because Loretta was a lady, she didn't tell the woman how rude she was. Because she was so humble she didn't tell her of all the awards she had won or the hundreds of millions of records she had sold or that she is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and a member of the Grand Ole Opry or that she can have two concerts in the same town on the same day and both events will be sold out within HOURS of tickets going for sale, she didn't discuss the MILLIONS of fans she has. She just looked at this uppity snob and in her best mountains of Kentucky drawl she asked, "Whut ak-ceent?"
Classic Country! Heard a lot of country in the service too on Armed Forces Radio. Good reaction! Nice editing too. All good. ⭐
Thank you! See you tomorrow! 😊💖
She said she could of wrote 80 more verses but the record company said she had to keep it short
There will never be another Loretta Lynn. RIP Loretta gone at 90
I love that she writes and sings about her life. Such a talent 💜
I feel like that’s something country has gotten away from. Back in the day many of the musicians came from nothing and many of their songs were their real life stories. Nowadays it seems like country has gotten away from that real-life struggle.
Every word she said was true. I live within 70 miles of Butcher Hollar. Her diction is the same as mine.
The Queen of Country music. This is an iconic song on her life. Thanks for reacting
I am closer to 70 than 60, and Loretta was making hits when I was young. She is just a country girl, and we loved her songs in the country. Dan Seals does a wonderful and poignant song about a father and daughter called "Everything That Glitters."
She got married at 15 (originally recorded as 13) and was a grandmother at 29.
Really love how you point out key changes, and notes, Makes it easier to understand.
This is a great movie!
RIP LORETTA. A GENUINE LEGEND
I saw Loretta perform in 1978, in Lexington Kentucky. I do believe every single citizen of Butcher Holler, Ky was in the audience that night.
I would suggest watching the movie.. This song.. IS her life. I doubt many people can even imagine only having shoes for half the year, or litteraly living in a house with a dirt floor.
I would say also as to the clear diction issue.. could be the recording.. This was live and recorded I think in the 1960's. There are some other versions of the song.. and they play one in the movie also.
She is an amazing person.. She did marry her husband at 15, he was 21, and was married to him alone.. from 1948 to 1996 when he passed away.
Simply the Queen of country music 😊 ..she had ten single that banned from radio in 60s, try You’re Not Woman Enough or Fist City 😁 she is great!!
Everything Loretta sang was crystal clear. Now some of these rock singers, I have to look up the lyrics to figure out what they are trying to ing as they eat the microphone! Perhaps you have to be born to the twang to understand it 😊. You just keep heading down that country dirt road and let us know what you hear. Wonder if you'll get back far enough to find my favorite, Hank Williams (I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry). Oh but that man could sang (yes sang as opposed to sing).
You got to remember that she didn't have any formal training in singing like you've been blessed with this is her raw natural talent so that's why it might be a little rough around the edges but hey that's what country and western music is supposed to be
Wow, now that is going back a while! She is pure class. Another great, great female country (more country rock, bluegrass) is Emmylou Harris. Her songs 'Bolder To Birmingham', 'Poncho And Lefty' and 'Wayfaring Stranger' are all incredible with so many more. Emmylou, to some, is the greatest country female singer of all time. Also Eva Cassidy, who could sing anything, is an amazing female voice gone too soon. Her versions of 'Autumn Leaves' and 'Over The Rainbow' and 'Fields Of Gold' among many others, are amazing. Thanks for reacting. I like that you include so many different genres on your channel, as it makes for great fun and more interest!
Thank you for your comment. Hope to see you tomorrow on my Premiere of a new reaction video to Jeannie C Riley?
Emmy Lou is amazing! Poncho and Lefty is actually originally written and performed by the commonly unknown legend, Townes Van Zandt. I recommend a deep dive into his discography. A reaction on “Waiting Around to Die” would be great 👍🏻
That is the beautiful thing about classic country music it tells a story not like today's country
Thank you for your comment. Hope to see you tomorrow on my Premiere of a new reaction video to Jeannie C Riley?
@@maggiereneemusic I will be there for sure if I have signal I work at a coal mine so service is iffy at times but I will make it work
😊
I agree with her and dolly are allot alike I loved this I miss story's in music keep rocking
Such a a legend, oh my, this song gets me every time I hear it.
Country music does tell a story and everything Loretta wrote and performed told hers. You really should check out the movie of her life, “Coal Miners Daughter” starring Cissy Spacek and Tommy Lee Jones. It amazes me the music and stars I grew up with are unknown to younger generations. I was never lucky enough to see her perform live but I did see her sister Crystal Gayle in concert once in Chicago. Keep broadening horizons Maggie! Music lovers need you! Thanks!
Thank you for your comment. Hope to see you tomorrow on my Premiere of a new reaction video to Jeannie C Riley?
Was going to say, you want more of the story watch the movie. It's pretty good.
Made a great movie with same name as this song, starring Sissy Spacek.
There's more to this than the music, to key changes and tempos.
If you haven't lived in the south, or seen the real poverty they have endured then don't comment.
Her song was as much musical as it was cultural, now ain't that the truth.
radio stations didn't wan t to play songs that were longer than3 min back in the 60's so a lot of country songs were written to fit that time so they would get air time.
Try Loretta's You Can't Take My Man.
Loretta always dressed beautifully, as did several others.
You need to listen to Patsy Cline. Crazy another who died way to young.
Loretta and Dolly both grew up in the Appalachians. Loretta South East Kentucky,Dolly I believe Tennessee. I think most of us from that area can understand what she's saying. I'm guessing the Regional differences and Generational differences might play a role the couple times you might have had understanding what was being said.
So good to hear classic singers in their own genres classic western but always liked some western music but my fav always Linda Ronstadt but all good craicing
If you were from Kentucky or Tennessee, you would understand her diction.
True life for so many in Southeastern Kentucky...my father's family included. They didn't bathe from October til April...not enough coal or wood to heat the water, plus it was hard to pump and haul that much water.
Absolutely one of the BEST biographical movies ever made…Coal Miner’s Daughter ! Both Loretta’s and Patsy Cline’s songs were performed by the actors! And, if I’m not mistaken Spacek’s version of Coal Miner’s Daughter went to number one on some of the country music charts!
Thank you for your comment. Hope to see you tomorrow on my Premiere of a new reaction video to Jeannie C Riley?
All the songs at the time were 2-3 min long or they did not get played on the radio. I have heard that she actually did write several more verses to this song.. But the studio made her change and shorten it. Unfortunately the other verses were lost... and she did not remember them, so there is no record of what they were... Would have been amazing to hear more.
Check out Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty's "You're The Reason Our Kids Are Ugly". Loretta is a national treasured but nobody should wear that shade of green. Darlin' that is as good at the diction gets. It's country after all.
Aww ya gotta try Fist City. One of Lorettas best.
⭐
…..❤Queen Loretta.
You might enjoy her song "Wouldn't It Be Great", especially the version on the album of the same name which she cut in her 80s (!). I think it's among her best songwriting + singing.
You need to react to Patsy Cline’s Sweet Dreams of You. It would be interesting to hear a trained opera singer’s impression on her style. She was a female crooner.
Oh, yes, I totally agree! I hope it happens!
Vejam o testemunho, do Sr Roger morneau , ele fala sobre Loretta lynn, num show, de como começou a cantar, mas na verdade p que ela tinha procurado antes.
Younger generations call her first lady of country music, but she and older generations know the First Lady of Country Music was Kitty Wells
I think every couple generations someone will claim that title for a different singer.
Thank you for your comment. Hope to see you tomorrow on my Premiere of a new reaction video to Jeannie C Riley?
She's an absolute legend. Grew up in abject poverty and was a massive feminist activist.
Thought I would check her out. Can’t deal with talking over the song. Here and gone.
I see Jeannie C Riley is coming up soon also. Looking forward to that
YAY!! 😊
The deep voice was probably Ray Walker's. He sang bass with the Jordanaires.
Honey she was literally raised in a holler in KY. Me too. Her speech is typical Appalachia speak. Like instead of born she says bornd. Within a few years she changed that while singing but still retained a lot of it when speaking. All of her songs she wrote and they are autobiographical. Many are about her husband's cheating. Like Fist City and You Ain't Woman Enough. I love those two. The Pill was banned from radio as too controversial.
you should watch the movie by the same name. it won best picture at the acadamy. it had sissy spacek and tommy lee jones, beverly d angelo and levon helms. great movie. one of the best
Her song The Pill was banned in so many places. I have to admit I loved it! There wasn’t a song of hers I didn’t love.
I think she still holds the record for most songs (14) banned on country radio.
Nice of you to let them finally get that hog sold.
That version differs from the release, a touch quicker and maybe a different key?
Cool reaction.
Crystal Gayle, Brown Eyes Blue
Mariza - Gente da Minha terra.. reaction.. thank you very much.
Almost all te records of the 60's era were 2 1/2 -3 minutes long-or they didn't get airplay.
Your perfect tone and following up after Loretta's verses...You actually could perform a duet with her and be a pair of silvertone'd viola soft, deep soft, caressing voice....Would love to experience you and your doppelganger Loretta Lynn pulling a hologram Michael Jackson performance.
Thank you for your lovely comment! 😊💖
Love country music, you could so do a cover of that song Maggie
Would respectfully ask you react to Eva Cassidy.
Oh, yes, anything, one of my very favorites!
If you are listening to Loretta Lynn, Why don´t you listen to Melanie Safka? And her´s Lya down (candles in the wind). Or Look what they done to my song ma. Melanie got categorized as an folkrock musician and a part of the flower power movement in the late 60´s.
that is funny that you said you wanted it to be longer. well the original had more lyrics however, they got burned in Owen Bradley's studio and she can't remember the other lyrics.
Please tell me you are not mocking her. If you are, she is clearly worth 10 of you
She didn't marry at 13, that turned out to have been a fib, she was almost 16
Hard to keep respectful when she keeps trying to sing with Loretta lynn
Loretta was the Hillbilly feminist.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
Patsy Cline please
Don’t try to sing along. If you were that Good they’d make a movie of your life.
why do you make fun of the country singer's accents? looking down on people is not becoming of a Julliard graduate.
Why are you trying to sing the last word of every line?
It's annoying.
Can you stop clowning around during the song? It adds nothing.
Why you gotta repeat her words??? You do this in every reaction you do. Very annoying!!!
I really like Loretta songs. FYI Loretta's house is haunted and her family doesn't want to be there at night.
She never had any formal training.
Hi Maggie! I need to renew my membership, and I'll do so after this video. I just wanted to say that I ran into Loretta not just once, but twice on the highway! I was driving cross country, stopped somewhere in Utah at a truck stop, and up rolled her bus. I walked over to her to say hello as she sat at a picnic table. People felt safe back then, and she was so welcoming! I talked to her for awhile, I knew her music very well growing up with it, and it was nice. Then years later, somewhere in Colorado I believe, it happened again! She said she remembered me, but I sorta bet she did not. She was just so gracious. Both times though I broke off the conversation, just to be courteous. She was one incredible woman, and singer. I'll have to go listen to her music for awhile again. Thanks for this review! * Maggie, you probably have no hours left in any given day, but Sissy Spacek played Loretta in the movie "Coal Miners Daughter". If you get the chance... just saying.
That's such a sweet story. Thanks for sharing. 😆
@@maggiereneemusic Thanks Maggie. Just updated my payment info. I have to say also on my bucket list now is a chance to see you perform somewhere, someday. I wish it would be in New York, I've been there a ton in the past. But I don't travel so well today. In any regards I'll keep following you no matter what. Good luck to you and all the great things you are accomplishing.
Coal Miner's Daughter is definitely worth watching. Fantastic film.
LMAO she was from Appalachia . That was her real accent. She got married at 14 not 13. Still way to young but she was not 13 years old.
I lived in Van Lear, right around the bend from Butcher Holler, in 4-5th grade.
