This hasn't blown up yet? Shame. This kind of video is great! The kind I'd put on in the background while playing a game. I appreciate how extensive it is. This could give a noob a very good idea of how this type of game progressed over time
@@Jin-lp5lt WAIT NO THIS IS GOOD!!! I re-uploaded this hoping more people would click and if you are new and commenting then that means the algo is finally cooking XD. Thanks so much for giving it a listen/watch my goal was exactly that give new players a variety of games to dive into!
@Jin-lp5lt nah ur good XD! I'm just happy all my tweaking on this video is going to (hopefully) give it a boost! Hope ya enjoy the content got plenty more fighting game and general gaming videos coming twice a month!
It's so funny you say that because I literally took cues from your "cute fighters" video XD I love your work sm!!! Hopefully I can catch ya if u go to ect goat! Thanks for watching, and supporting the vids!
There are also 4 Game Boy Advance fighting games that had tag team features too: Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors, Guilty Gear X: Advance Edition, Tekken Advance, and Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition; however, tag team gameplay weren't the main focus of those games. In DBZ Supersonic Warriors you could only tag team if the game gives you a partner team mate in Story Mode, in Guilty Gear X, Tag Mode is the only mode you could do tag battle though there aren't tag combos or anything. In MK Tournament Edition, Tag Team Mode is basically just Arcade Mode but with you choosing a tag partner against the CPU and their tag partner. Tekken Advance is basically Tekken 3 with Tekken Tag Tournament's Tag Mode added, while the game only had ten fighters, the Tag Team Mode is super fun to play.
@@VOAN Used to grind supersonic warriors 2 a ton on my DS! Iirc that game actually had some form of team switching! The rest I'll have to check out they might be a bit too shallow in tag mechanics for the scope of this vid but I'll update y'all with a follow up with any missing modes! Thanks for the comprehensive list!
I've been making Marvel vs Capcom 2 videos since it was re-released. MVC is just such a great franchise and the more people play it and talk about it the better
In the 1980s, the Famicom and Nintendo Entertainment System got an arena fighter in the form of MUSCLE Tag Match (correct me if I am wrong), which put Kinnikuman characters in one of the earliest arena fighters with eight-way movement and collectible power ups. What made it stand out is that each player can pick two characters, but one wrestler per player can fight at a time. To change wrestlers, you had to go to the corner where your partner is waiting, and press the attack button.
Yeah Muscle tag is technically not a arena fighter, I had this on my list originally but it's significance to the genre is not quite the same as the first game to do it all which would be Tag-Team wrestling by data east which has a similar gameplay system and style to M.U.S.C.L.E thus why I excluded it from the list. It's also technically more of a wrestling game then a arena fighter and this video was more focused on pure fighting games which for the sake of clarity includes a first gen title. Only reason I excluded was because if I included it we'd be going down the rabbit hole XD thanks for the comments tho! It's been really fascinating to see some more lore shined upon this genre
Speaking of Street Fighter EX3, selecting specific character pairs (like Darun with Pullum or Guile with Chun-Li) give you access to the Meteor Tag Combo. Inputting these attacks with a maxed out super bar on the character that starts out the attack will cause both characters to do a unique super combo attack comparable to the Team Up Techniques from the Rival School series.
Kizuna encounters tag system sounds real interesting with its tags zones! That groove on fight two granny characters is gas! Rage of the dragons ability to sacfice the life of a character to power up is an interesting one! Skull girls is one I've been wanting to get around to, and I really need to get on it! Cole mcgrath was in street fighter x tekken! That's mad! Kinda curious how he plays! So many anime cross over fighters! Man Fighterz really got me back into fighting games, it consumed my life for two months straight, even speaking about it now, makes me want to go play it now! I forgot power rangers got a fighting game, another one I'll have to jump on at some point! This was a fantastic trip down tag team fighters, was honestly really cool to see the evolution of it through this! Fantastic video bud, truly a wonderful watch!

Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Smash Ultimate are my favorite fighting games. I know Smash is a platform fighter so it's considered a different genre but still. Team fighting games there is a greater variety of playstyles
Ultimate is valid! One of the best platform fighters out there imo! I agree team fighting games offer so much fun and diversity in the fighting game genre that it's hard for me not to love em'!
6:55 In X-Men vs. Street Fighter, choosing Chun-Li while holding Start chooses her Street Fighter Alpha outfit. In all versions of Street Fighter Alpha 2 (base game, not Zero 2 Alpha), press any attack button when holding Start on Chun-Li for five seconds to use her classic design and charge-based Kikoukens. In Zero 2 Alpha, you press Start on Chun-Li once for this same variant.
NO SHOT I MISSED THIS ONE NOOO I've played it before but I don't recall assist based fighting! Probably because it's in kanji and I missed something 😔 thanks for the heads up!
@@YungFalcon yeah its pretty bonkers- filled with infinites and all. Even has that thing that you loved from Groove 1? (never heard of that title btw so thanks) with the assist in the background following you as you move and then popping out when you call them in. Assists are also tied to individual characters who essentially are connected to them in lore.
