I was a cameraman for WTLV-12 in Jax at the 5 yard line that day. The Gator Bowl literally shook the ground like an 8.5 earthquake. It was one of the loudest half stadium crowds I had ever witnessed. I am retired today but each year I watch the rivalry. And the networks always seem to go back in time and play the "Run Lindsay Run" clip. Goosebumps and yes tears sometimes flow. I had to do my job that day. Walk over to the Florida sidelines and get the reaction. I have never seen grown men cry like I did that day. To come SOOO close. The SEC championship on the line. 92 seconds away. It was like someone reaching into your heart and ripping it out. It is what college football and rivalries are all about. The passion. I will always be a Gator and I will always hate this play, but I sure am glad I was a witness to one of the greatest college football plays to ever happen. Go Gators.
That takes GUTS to say!!! I talked good about Tennessee's Coach and said I hope they give him a chance and caught a Wall of Crap!!! I HATED Steve Spurrier but at FLA but CHERRED for him in the NFL and at USC (a little) !!! Having a Love/Respect/Hate for your Rivals IS OK !!!!
The most amazing aspect of the play was Lindsey’s quick start up field. When he caught the ball he was facing the Florida goal line. When he landed there were four Florida players within Seven yards converging on him from three directions. He started from a cold start accelerated quickly and raced to the goal line.
I am 39 years old and I was eight when I saw this happen. Of all of the generations of college football, I feel BLESSED that I got to grow up during this period of the greatest game ever. I wouldn't have wanted to grow up during any other era of college football. It was so amazing !! THANK YOU to all of you who made my childhood Saturdays so memorable. :) My son is 14 and has witnessed football over the past 10 years. I tell him some times, "Bud,.your getting screwed!" Bunch of Prima Donnas.
Lindsay Scott, beginning at 1:49, says that "(the zone) was there all day." When freezing the video at the time of the catch, notice where a still airborne Scott is focusing. Knowing the expected coverage he looked at the most likely place where he could gain big yardage and headed straight there. Remarkable smarts and poise at such a critical moment.
While stationed in Germany, Mar of 1982, I think, I was able to meet Chris Collinsworth (FLA wide receiver in this game) and Ronnie Lott on a USO tour in Baumholder. They had both just played in the Super Bowl against each other, and they were really cool about spending time with us. Towards the end I went to get an autograph, and I had on my Georgia Bulldogs shirt. I looked at him and he looked at me and he said hell no you are not getting an autograph. Then he said man I will never ever forget that game. He said we were all celebrating on the sideline not only for the win we thought we were going to get, but also knocking Ga out of contention. He went on for a couple of minutes and then said damn why did you have to wear that shirt or something to that effect. Most of the other attendees were gone, so he talked to me and couple of others for a while. To talk to a FLA gator player who had played in the game over two years later and still see the the way he carried on about it. Told me everything I ever needed to know. To his credit he gave me an autograph later on while we were laughing about it. That day he and Ronnie Lott were totally cool. Just think every year he has to see "Run Lindsey Run" before the game.
I'm in high-school and I play football for the school he played for! Lindsey came to the school for a BBQ and met about five players face to face I was lucky enough to be one of them. He told us all about that day! When he told us it felt like I was there! I will never forget that day.
We always had the radio on tuned in to the Larry Munson show and if you didn't hear Larry calling that play you missed alot, he went absolutly bizerk, I will never forget that play.
Freddie Gilbert was Such a BEAST on the field... and So DAMN NICE and Gregarious here!!! Freddie Gilbert, Ros, Woerner, Scott, Belue, Jeff Harper, Greg Bell... Amp ALL those Guys... REX!!! and Jimmy Womack... CLASS ACTS!!!
I was right there in South End Zone. I was entering UGA this fall. First Georgia Football game I ever attended. I had my cannon AE1 and took many pics of the bedlam in south end zone. I still have ticket stub it was a student ticket. One Dollar! Pretty good value.
I work at EverBank Field now. I was 12 when this game was played. I cannot look at the field here in Jacksonville without the imagery of this play....ever. What a play!
I have a good friend who grew up in GA and his family passed today texts regarding this play; obviously, the play is one of the TOP 40 football plays of ALL TIME.
I was in the stands on the Florida side wearing my Dawg hat. My sister attended Florida. Right behind me sat Peace's grandfather. Wow. He was nice about the loss, but stunned.
That Georgia team will go down as being one of the greatest if not the greatest team in the history of UGA football. I remember seeing this as a young man and it was crazy.
One dislike?Must be a gaytor fan.I graduated high school in 80,Ill never forget the 80's era. When I moved to Fl in 82' no uf fan owned up to be a uf fan, unless they won a game.
NOW I'M A BIG HUGE ALABAMA FAN ALWAYS HAVE BEEN, ALWAYS WILL BE.....HERSCHEL WALKER IN MY OPINION IS THE GREATEST COLLEGE FOOTBALL RUNNING BACK BAR NONE & LINDSAY SCOTT WAS A GREAT RECEIVER IN THOSE DAYS.....THAT WAS ONE OF THE GREATEST PLAYS I'VE EVER SEEN & HEARD......AL MICHAELS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST ANNOUNCERS EVER, BUT THE GEORGIA ANNOUNCER IN THAT GAME, ON THAT PLAY; NO ONE COULD HAVE CALLED IT ANY BETTER....."RUN LINDSAY" "LINDSAY SCOTT" LINDSAY SCOTT"......WHAT A MOMENT!!!
Maybe the greatest moment in my sports watching life. For some reason this is known as "Run Lindsay run," even though Munson only said "run" once. And where the hell was Herschel in all of this?
I remember Larry Munson's call of the Lindsey Scott run on the radio as a nine-year-old kid. I thought the game was a lost cause. Another memory of Munson's was the "hob nail boot" call vs. Tennessee in 2001.
Does anyone know who the guy is in the red pants, white shirt and red hat?I've wondered for years!!! He is in the entire footage from stop to finish, going crazy!
As a Saints fan, I only wish that Lindsay had gotten a better OC and recievers coach, and that the Saints had better QB's then. There's no telling what he could've done on a Payton-coached team.
Florida safety Tim groves slipped . he played at Oakridge high in Orlando. 1976 fourth n dumb. Earl Carr , Oakridge high also can't gain a! Yard. Georgia should start A fund for the Oakridge football program !!!

You’re correct. I was in the stands. A dawgs fan. I WAS thinking the stand would collapse. I’m glad it was Lindsey on this. Not Herschel.
The most amazing aspect of the play was Lindsey’s quick start up field. When he caught the ball he was facing the Florida goal line. When he landed there were four Florida players within Seven yards converging on him from three directions. He started from a cold start accelerated quickly and raced to the goal line.

Legendary PLAY! Arguably, top 10 in the HISTORY of college Football, regardless of schools! Classic!
That Georgia team will go down as being one of the greatest if not the greatest team in the history of UGA football. I remember seeing this as a young man and it was crazy.
Me too! I ran out the front door with Lindsey. It's too funny, I'll never forget that moment.

I see seven Florida fans have watched this clip.
Maybe the greatest moment in my sports watching life. For some reason this is known as "Run Lindsay run," even though Munson only said "run" once. And where the hell was Herschel in all of this?
They couldn't stop that undefeated season. Something they still don't have.

My mom and dad were at this game
I remember Larry Munson's call of the Lindsey Scott run on the radio as a nine-year-old kid. I thought the game was a lost cause. Another memory of Munson's was the "hob nail boot" call vs. Tennessee in 2001.

Why wasn't Herschel interviewed?
awesome*
"Lindsey Scott! Lindsey Scott! Lindsey Scott!" ...The Great Larry Munson on the call.
I'm surprised Wayne County High School didn't drop Yellow Jackets and become the Bulldogs effective 1981.
THAT IS GEORGIA FOOTBALL! GO DOGS!
As a Saints fan, I only wish that Lindsay had gotten a better OC and recievers coach, and that the Saints had better QB's then. There's no telling what he could've done on a Payton-coached team.
It's football. Anything can happen on any play!
It keeps scrambling.
I REMEMBER WATCHING IT ON MY T V I THOUGHT IT WAS FAKE!
