All depends where it's being built. Bc I live where hurricane Ida made landfall and the lumber companies are sticking it to us right now.

Honestly, this would be perfect size for a small little 1br house. Nice sized living room, kitchen and utility downstairs, with a bedroom, large master bath and storage upstairs. Plop it on a few acres with some French doors to a deck looking out the bedroom.

My Grandfather built a Gambrel to work out of while he built his house; I've always said that one day I'll build one in his honor. Never knew this style had a name. Thanks for the video, it gave me some good perspective on what's involved.

Back in the day, I worked at a lumber company that sold these as packages. I knew a lot of guys that bought them to make starter homes. The main cost is in the trusses. Everything else is variable depending on taste, finish etc..

Hello from St. Louis Missouri Ken.
I enjoyed this video sir. I'm looking to have something very close to this built in the next year or so. The building would be a hanger with small shop on ground level and a planning, sleeping on the second. Really the only difference would be a large door opening to accommodate a 23 ft wing span (aprox 24ft opening?). You've done a nice job here Ken. I appreciate the time you took to explain the details. You have gained another subscriber sir.

Hi Ken, Is gambrel your favorite style of garage? You seem to do a lot of them? Your base pricing seems very fair, and I appreciate your comments on the details ( ie types of fasteners & material dimensions) of your methods of construction. Thanks for taking the extra time in explaining. Looking forward to the “options” video. Stay warm in the snowy north of New England.

I'm very happy to see your second floor wall and rafter method. It's just how my dad and I figured on doing a gambrel roof in the future. We wanted to put up a 36x80. Unfortunately with the rising material costs I kept putting construction on hold to save up more money and my dad passed away before we could start our project. Just want to let you know your construction of the upstairs made me very happy to see and my dad would approve also. I would hire you and your guys if you were close by. Keep up the good work and be safe.

Hi Ken! We are really enjoying the videos as we narrow down styles to build a shop for our farm in Montana. This is probably not your favorite question and I respect any degree of an answer that you can relinquish. Do you have a ballpark materials cost on a 24x24 gambrel with 4 dormers and a 10'x24' attached lean to carport on each side. By materials cost, we are assuming the same way that you show your build cost- no finished interior and with one of your common siding choices. Thank you!

Like most things maintenance is an important part of a building. It should last a long time
