    Thank you very much for this helpful video, Deborah. I liked the way you got right into it without blathering on, as some people do in their videos, which I just switch off. Very good work, thank you.

      Thank you, Lesley - I'm with you! So many videos take 10 minutes to get to the point. It can be frustrating! Thank you for your lovely comment.

    What is the difference between broidery perse and applique?

    • @DeborahWirsuTextileArtist
      @DeborahWirsuTextileArtist  5 років тому +1

      Hi Carol - Technically, nothing, as they are both pieces of fabric 'applied' to another piece of fabric. Broderie Perse is a style that uses fussy cutting of motifs - usually flowers - that are arranged in a pleasing design on another piece of fabric. It is French or 'Persian' and orginated during the 17th century. It became popular in England when they started importing exotic chintz from the 'Orient'. Many people could not afford chintz furnishings, so they purcased small pieces and cut them up to embroider a design on something else.

    The music is Ashoken Farewell (sp?) from Ken Burn's Civil War series. I own the sheet music, which is how I remember it.

    I'm on an iPad and this video comes up as not available.

      +JayneAusten Hello Jayne. I'm very sorry to hear this. However, I don't think it's the fact that you're on iPad that is the problem. When I made some of my earlier videos, I did not realise that some sound files could cause a conflict for users in some countries. I will see if there is anything I can do to rectify this for you by re-recording the audio. I will let you know if I succeed! It may take me a day or so.

      +JayneAusten Further to my reply just now...in the event that I cannot fix this problem for you, all the information (plus some extra) is included in two of my blog posts, that shows the same technique - as still photos - as in the video. You'll find the two posts here:
      Part one - the story behind Broderie Perse
      www.deborahwirsu.com/2014/07/09/applique-techniq…nd-the-technique/
      and Part two - making Broderie Perse by machine, with step-by-step instructions
      www.deborahwirsu.com/2014/07/16/applique-techniq…perse-by-machine/
      I do apologise for the inconvenience and hope that the written tutorials help a little!

      +JayneAusten That's great news! I'm glad you found it. When I made the Broderie Perse video I was very new to video making - I've learned a lot since then! And with all my videos, there is generally a blog post that accompanies it that often offers additional information. I'm so pleased you found the video and thank you so much for letting me know. I don't like to disappoint people!
