Hi Shelagh, if you want to do 'invisible' machine applique this is a great technique. There are several different ways of approaching turned edge machine applique, but this is the one I find easiest and neatest. Take your time and you'll have wonderful results!

So beautiful. Thank you for sharing. Can I ask what do you follow for appliqué. Is it needle or part of foot? I'm new to appliqué and trying to attempt a simple heart. One side goes ok, but the other side not so well. Either stitches don't have contact or they go off alignment when turning. TIA.

Hi Christina. Thanks for your question. Invisible machine appliqué is a tricky technique for a beginner, but there's no reason why you shouldn't have a go - it might just take a bit of practice. When doing this technique you need to watch the needle closely - it needs to just catch the very edge of the fabric. By using an extremely narrow stitch width, the stitches will then become almost invisible. Can I suggest, if you are finding this a challenge, that you may achieve better results with a simpler appliqué edge such as zigzag or blanket stitch. I have tutorials for both of those here on UA-cam, and you'll also find them (and loads of other things) on my website at www.deborahwirsu.com . I hope it all goes well for you!

The wooden manicure stick is a brilliant idea. There are overpriced stainless steel tools on the market, which are unnecessary.
