Hey Nick, I just wanted to let you know that regardless if you achieve your goals or not, every race I watch of yours is a huge inspiration. Watching someone go all out chasing a goal motivates me to make bigger goals. Last year I ran a marathon after one year of running. I was 290 lbs and it was a hellish experience. Throughout the year I continued to get heavier despite the running until November when I decided it was time to take my goals more seriously. At that point I had gotten back up to 307 lbs and have lost 57 of those pounds in the last 5 months and am still on track to lose more. I am able to comfortably run about 90 seconds per km faster at a lower heart rate. Thank you for being an inspiration to keep on pushing.
Nick, you can definitely run under 2:20. Your comment about not being fresh rings true. Every marathon you run depletes you, even those you run slower pacing others. Be judicious about how many you run in a year. Your kids are only young once. Hire out work that can be done by others to spend as much time with your family as possible. You can hire out editing, merch shipping, etc. Looking forward to seeing you run well under 2:20 at Berlin!
That's me at 11:42 fighting my own demons but still managed to cheer you on! 💪💪💪 Thanks for the shake out run on Saturday was fun! Terrific effort you will definitely conquer Berlin!!!
Another brilliant video Nick! I wish I had seen it before running London this year as it would have given me the mindset to stick to my pace in the last 10 kms. Good luck with Berlin! You will smash sub 2:20!
Started watching your content and following your strava recently! Im a keen runner and love getting into the mountain trails! You inspired me to see what times i could get on a track as ive never run on a flat track always opting for the hills! I wanted to sub 20 a 5k and blew it to smithereens with a 16:21! Thanks for your inspiration and time you'll smash that 2:20 barrier in due course my dude!! 💪
Love the advice and the thought patterns through your mind, helps massively so thank you. Although I done 34k in my longest workout in prep for this marathon I don't think it was long enough. My mind was good but my body was giving up, the demons came in and at km 31 I done a walk run kind of thing until the end. I never experienced the kind of pain I felt in those last 11km's of the marathon in my training so maybe I didn't do enough but learnt so much to take forward. Thanks for the video nick, all the best for Berlin 🏃🏼
Absolutely love these breakdowns! Nick you are my biggest inspiration on UA-cam! You helped me break 20 mins 5k now I am sure I will break 3h marathon one day too. In this race I feel like losing the group at the begging of 2nd half might have been a big factor I feel like running alone for so long its very very hard going for any kind of PB :D
Really enjoyed this breakdown. I find the hardest part is between 25-36km. Once i get to 37km, if i feel ok then it's on! It always seems to fall apart at about 36km!
Bro. I ran my first marathon last weekend in Stockholm. I thought I was in sub-4 shape, but then it was 28C on race day and the time goal went out of the window! I finished in 4:43 and it was incredibly tough; I was struggling from around 10K and had to take walk breaks in the first half! One thing that helped me get through the second half was your chunking strategy. Instead of fixating on “oh no I have 18km left”, it was “only 4km then you’ve finished this section”. It made a huge difference and made the second half much more manageable. I ended up running my second fastest 5K between 36-40K 😂
Glad it helped mate and yes I heard was a scorcher. Don’t underestimate how much goodness you banked in training and how much you can take forward with you for the next one! Onwards and upwards! 👊🏻
Nick I think that running alone for so long was critical for not achieving your goal. It would have been different if you had been accompanied during those final stretches. Anyway, congratulations Greetings from Seville
Cracking run from you Nick. I can't wait to see how you get on in Berlin. Can I ask you do you think Manchester is a better course than London if I'm going after a PB next April? I am considering doing Manchester instead of London this time. I found London very congested this year but I don't know if the course in Manchester is harder with elevation and things.
30k runners and you ended up running the majority on your own! Why do you think this was? Do you think you need the competition and camaraderie of fellow runners around you to stay mentally in the game? Great running, love the breakdown.
Hey nick !! Been following from a long time .. I was curious what was your zone 2 pace when you were running 25 min 5ks ? Because I am at same condition right now and I think my zone 2 very slow …. So a little motivation maybe 😄
Hi Nick, incredible!! Can I ask you, What do you usually eat on race morning? I find it incredibly hard to run medium/longer distances with a proper breakfast in my stomach. My stomach hurts a lot in the end, so I started just eating a little bit of yoghurt on the morning. Is that enough for Marathon distance?
Pleasure mate. You need to train your gut for this as you need the fuel for these races. I personally have peanut butter on bagels 😋 2 of them (and a bar with 1 hour to go if I’m still hungry).
Okay Thanks!! What is the most important to get into your body on race morning? Like Macro wise. I believe like juice and yoghurt for the sugar and energy through that. But i might have to get used to more food:)
What's worse? Being all alone in the big portion of the race or being surrunded by big crowd of runners and you can't pick it up safely like in London?
Hi there I know your more focused towards long distance but perhaps someone in the comments could help I am running 1500m next week I want to do 5:00 is it better to go the same pace throughout the whole time or get faster progressively
@@justalilbesterperfect thanks I’ll let you know how I get on and better luck next time just got up to where you realised you can’t get 2:20 but it just makes you more eager to get it and it will feel even more satisfying when you get it
my experience is don‘t make too many plans beforehand about pacing or splits or the route. Just do it! It most likely will be very different. For my last marathon I had planned everything just to ensure myself I‘ll manage to run sub 3h. I prepared splits for every single mile and at mile 16 I ripped the skin off my second toe and for the rest of the race I fought against the pain. I finished in 2‘50… without splits 😊 Clear your head and just do it! Keep an eye on your avg pace and enjoy the race 🥳

Wow! Amazing to hear! Massive benefits to running and thanks so much for sharing!!
Keep on keeping on Dane you've got this.... & yes Nick is a total inspiration... 👍🏻👍🏻x

Hidden NBA talent!
Not bad skillz hey 🏀 😉

What training did you do beforehand ?
Being in this condition able to do sub 3 hour marathons, is simply a blessing. I know it takes a lot of work, but it's worth it.

Lovely to hear and congrats on smashing that sub 20 🔥🙌🏻
Unbelievable, I never to achieve that speed. You are my hero. Increadible.
Inspirational! These breakdown videos are great. And congratulations on 7th place and the 3 pointer 🏀 🙌

Being from Stockholm and knowing approx where the track goes I can only imagine how horrible the sun must have been 😵 Well done

Fantastic breakdown of your mara, top work Nic 🤘
Well done Nick, great to watch
Idk know how but everytime i open youtube you made a new video like ten minutes ago
An that's a great thing right??.. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😂boooooooomshakalllaaakkka... x
Love the yellow at 30 secs in! Who on earth was that? 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣 caught my attention properly!!
legend- love watching these- so authentic
The chap in black with purple Alfaflys running close to you in the early stages looks a lot like Matt Rees, thewelshrunner
He has a very similar running style to him (and same shoes), I actually thought the same when I watched it back.
32,000 runners running 42,195 metres - that's 1.35 million kilometres! To the moon and back and back to the moon!
Amazing Nick. That’s awesome❤️
Glad you enjoyed it ❤️🙌🏻
@@justalilbester it was awesome. Boom shakalaka!! You absolutely smashed it 2:20:00 Berlin!!!
Wow 7th is amazing

Definitely have a watch of my most recent video. I share which of those I think are faster 🙌🏻

The longer you can work with runners. Definitely the mentally easier it is. But often doesn’t happen all the way through
Top!
Just love NICK!!!... It was amazing seeing him in London running with the flag.... 🎉🎉🎉🎉Boooooooomshakalllaaakkka.... 🎉🎉🎉🏃🏼🏃🏼🏃🏼🏃🏼😁x
Haha oh that London marathon was some special 🎉 thanks for the support and I’ll remember that for a long time!! 🫶🏻

For zone 2 think a maximum HR of around 72% of your HRM. Good luck 🙌🏻

Not much crowd support in Manchester? 🤷♂️
Bro can you say your breathing Technique only from nose or nose +mouth or inhale in by nose exhale in mouth please reply bro ❤
We need a boom shakalaka singlet.
Gotta say, the crowd support seems pale in comparison to your London video.
I agree. I have Boom Shakalaka socks, let me get in the singlet.
What's worse? Being all alone in the big portion of the race or being surrunded by big crowd of runners and you can't pick it up safely like in London?
I’d take crowd of runners all day long. 🎉🙌🏻 better fuel from that!
Hi there I know your more focused towards long distance but perhaps someone in the comments could help I am running 1500m next week I want to do 5:00 is it better to go the same pace throughout the whole time or get faster progressively
It also just so happens to be the pace you ran the marathon at 😂😂
Be one second over the whole way and then bring it home last lap and make up those missing few seconds 🔥

Multi-skilled Nick. I guess you are tall enough to be a basketball player - LOL.
Let me crack 2:20 first 🎯 then we can switch it up a bit 🏀 ;)
What happened to hat? 😀
Took it off at about half way once I knew the camera battery was dead
Please reply champ
Boom Shakalaka 👊🏻
Have you ever DNF ed ?
Amazing !!
Next time have a pacer for the last 15K 🫣🫣 you will smash 2.20 !
7:25 I have watched at least 5 times 🤣🤣🤣🎯🎯
Those are all in disbelief 🤣🤣
Yup groups all the way through to the finish make a big difference!!
🤣🤣 enjoyed that shot hey!
