Absolutely insane that this guy was a smoker for over a decade, until relatively recently, and is running sub-15min 5ks and putting up impressive marathon times. Super human genetics. Imagine if he had trained seriously from a very young age. Surely Olympian potential right there? You’re a huge inspiration man!

I smoked cigarettes from 1989 to 2014. I haven't had a cigarette since. Ten years of no smoking feels good. I have been running consistently for the past two years. I had previously quit at least two times and started smoking again within a year or two. I feel running makes it easier to not smoke. You and your awesome videos motivate and encourage my love of running. Thank you for sharing.

It's incredible to hear about your smoking habit, and something I needed to hear right now. I smoked roughly between the age of 20 to 30 (I am now 34), a habit exacerbated by living in southeast Asia where cigarettes are given out like candy - one time I was given a sleeve simply for entering a nightclub. I eventually quit smoking, partially because I was enjoying running and exercise so much and trying to adhere to the goals I set myself in running. I have also managed to stop drinking. I still occasionally have a cigarette on certain occasions i.e a wedding, a funeral, but beat myself up over it quite soon after. Hearing your story has made me feel a whole lot better about myself. I am amazed at your accomplishments and am proud of my own as well. I don't want smoking to anchor me from bettering my achievements, but also, I don't want to internalise anxiety after a slip or a release, which sometimes I need. Thanks for these videos.

I am a Marathon runner (3:33). I have been running for 18 months now and I have always had a problem with drugs. I have done all sorts of drugs on and off for the last 3 years really hard. (Weed, Alcohol, Caffeine, Shrooms, LSD, MDMA, Amphetamines, Ketamine and Cocaine) Not exactly proud of it but now I want to find a way to live without them. I am tried of living with drugs. I have always used it to treat adhd symptoms. I think I will just have to work harder than someone else who doesn’t have ADHD. Anyone else who has drug problems just know to never give up. If you choose not to you will never get better.❤

Thanks for your honesty! Struggling with binge eating for a long time, mostly sugary treats like ice cream, chocolate, cakes etc. Started due to dissatisfaction at work and continued due to a coping mechanism of "I need the calories to run". Whole foods and fruits are more filling, tastier and help you recover quicker, but I don't always remember it. Agree that zero tolerance doesn't work and can lead to relapses.

For me, I think it's not eating enough. I've been working towards losing weight while simultaneously running for school in xc and track, and I often just forget to eat, especially on days I run early in the morning, so while I know I need the fuel, it's a bit of a challenge to remind myself to eat. However, knowing that someone who's been in an arguably much worse habit has been able to kick it and succeed in the activities they do is very heartening and gives me hope for getting better at running and mastering my own body. Thank you for putting this out there for people like me and others who would benefit from acknowledging and fighting our detrimental habits.

I've read somewhere that it takes about 5 years for the lungs to completely heal after smoking for a long time, though it may differ on many people but 🫡 to you, Sir! because the hardest challenge in stopping a bad habit is actually committing to stop it. I was a chain smoker too, but shorter period than yours. I think it was like from 18 years old up to 22.. I stopped when I met the love of my life 😅 now I am 5 years nicotine free. And I've been running for about less than a year and half now. My only bad habit right now is over training! Lmao.
Anyway, keep inspiring! great content as always.

I've never smoked. Alcohol consumption is one glass of red wine per year, I do not drink beer. 70/182, I trained quite diligently, while in my best years I ran 5 km in only 17:25, the result at the marathon was 3:13. Another reason to be disappointed in the significant harm of bad habits.

Boet good to hear your human. I smoked 2 packs or more a day until Nov 2022 ( I'm 52).I actually ran a sub 3 ( my first)at valencia and a 7:48 at comrades in 2022 while still smoking. Only reason I quit was my running coach said most people come to me to get healthy. I thought he would have said they come to him to get faster 😂. I have nothing against smoking if that makes you happy. I quit drinking and drugs in 2016. That's when I started running. FYI running did not get me to quit using but it sure has made me not start again. After I quit drinking etc.. smoking and running were my favorite. I had a smoke before NYC marathon and people looked at me like I was the devil😂.This comrades was my first I didn't even think about a smoke after. Now that's crazy. Keep up the great work boet.

    1 Timothy 4:8 KJV
For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
    Titus 2:11-13 KJV
For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ

U eat some absolute rubbish man. Proof that you can outrun a bad diet. Absolute champ. Can I make a suggestion though.... Can you get a coffee machine or make some actual coffee. Nescafé gold isn't coffee bro

That’s my thinking, if I don’t have ‘real coffee’ then I can have more. Half the time it’s just to stay warm 🤣

Binge eating/Dieting is probably my biggest vice. Leading up to a race I will restrict calories the week before and drop 2-3 scale lbs. Then post race I will binge eat junk for 2-3 days straight. Trying to get better with this.
