At 10:00 mins. I'm screaming hurry before the soccer ball blows up! :))) 11:00 blue Loctite is your friend "if they sell it there"! My hats off to you! Any!!! Any engine work in the bilge sucks, but in the heat humidity & short of a marine store walking up the gangway is even worse. You are again a rock star!!!

Buddy, I worked in a boatyard for several years. I feel your pain. Your comment about how a single bolt can make you feel completely defeated is dead on. The drill and tap job was genius.

    Hi,
Before to remove an old tighten bolt, you can put some penetrant, tap a few shots on the bolt to let the penetrant oil penetrate and let it work 5 minutes. After this first 5 minutes, do the same another time and wait 5 minutes.
Now you can start removing the bolt 1/8 anti-clockwise, 1/8 clockwise, 1/4 anti-clockwise, 1/4 clockwise, etc etc... You have to feel the bolt, and always pray.
If the bolt isn't moving or requiring too much force, stop.
The penetrating oil is maybe not the good one.
After a second try, if it's not working, it's time to heat.
The best Penetrating oil I ever used is State Pen Penetrating oil in aerosol (Item #121822-12).
I've tried over 20 different penetrating oils and this one unjams everything. Its better this one than heating... But you have to use it as I told you first. Putting a few drops, tapping on top of the bolt to help penetrating, letting work for 5 minutes or more, and redoing it a second time...
    Cheers

Salty Wisconsin roads have me feeling your pain. I underestimated the power of a simple propane plumbing torch on rusty bolts for years, now I swear by it. Hit those rusty bolts with a torch til they glow red or close. will definitely help to loosen them up. Penetrating oil too, but don't start a fire lol.

Mate. Ill yell ya a secret, ive snapped a metric crap ton of bolts over the years and 99.9% of the time you use an easy out the mungrel will snap in the bolt. I just dont even try them anymore. Heats my usual go to but probably a bad idea in the boat lol. Id cut a slot in the top with an angle grinder (1mm cutting blade) and get an impact driver with a large (#4) slottled screwdriver bit and belt it out

At my workshop in Oz, a broken bolt like that doesn’t really slow us down too much, the technique we used was to mig weld to the broken bolt (cation fire hazard) until the weld was proud again and then put a nut over the proud weld and weld the nut on, then normally the heat helped “crack” the bolt and just take it out as normal, PS i realise you didn’t have access to any of that equipment, so what you actually did do was excellent, (yeah them easyouts rarely work) they tend to be so hard they snap off and create bigger problems, If you actually think about it, they way the should work with the reversing drill action, they actually try to expand the broken bolt, opposite to what you actually need.. I don’t like them.. cheers guys!
