They don't only mimic our sounds, they can understand human language too if you take the time to teach them(nor sure if all species can, but some). A friend of mine is a professional animal trainer and trained birds to use in shows for some time. Afterwards she kept a few of her favorite birds around. 1 of them act like a 2-4 year old kid. He can eat nicely from a plate, another of her birds same species made a mess. When he was hurt and had to go to the vet, afterwards he was sick and didn't want to eat. She told him that if he didn't eat she had to take him to the man in the white coat again(the vet), he then went over the the food bowl, ducked his head in, pretended to eat and kept an eye on her to see if she bought it. You could also ask him yes or no questions wich he would answer with moving his head. And he always answered correctly. You could ask him follow up questions too like why and he would again answer correctly. He would rat out anyone if they did something the owner didn't like. If she had him in the house she could hold him over a bucket and tell him to go and he did. He spend a lot of time as a house pet was around her a LOT in his younger years though, so don't expect to achieve this if you spend 30 min a day with your parrot.

Yes, the BBC did record a lyrebird in the wild making perfect camera sounds. Many parrots can live anywhere between about 30 to 60 years and that's in captivity (it's lower when in the wild). They're the ultimate lifetime pet. I've only ever had dogs and a few cats, but having a parrot that can communicate would also be awesome.

@@szlimak2987 They actually do understand it, parrots are incredibly smart. Mine says for example: shower timee!!! Every time we enter the bathroom :D
Birds can understand and use limited vocabulary to communicate with humans. Check out Griffin and Einstein. ua-cam.com/video/ozgcKw4MyvY/v-deo.html
i have a pet green cheek conure that says "Dame la patita kiwi" and her p is phenomenal i love the way she says it its so adorable!
I always did wonder why birds could talk🤔😂 thanks vox!
It has more to do with neurology than anatomy...
ok so let me get this straight dogs see us as the alpha. cats see us as the one who gets their daily cat food. i'm betting a parrot sees us as its flock.
Fishes can speak too. It's just that they're too _quiet_
Don't ever mention that again bro. Last time a fish talk to me it was saying "hail Satan buddy"

I have an African grey and she is more attached to me than my dogs. Also she talks to me in Hindi and English.
I’ve got an African Grey, too, and she says all kinds of hilarious things. When I’m home, she rides on my shoulder and tells me to wake up and vacuum the carpet. She also calls my cats, and yells at them when they come running.
So technically, a parrot does vaguely understand what they're saying in human, and I absolutely love that. 😂
Plot twist: They're actually small people wearing bird skin
so basically guess in stone ocean
so how do you sound like a camera?

That BBC footage of the liar bird making shutter noises: WHAT?! That’s amazing!
Steph Castro yea I thought that was fake
Find the whole video. BBC lyre bird. The camera shutter is just the first human-made sound it makes. It gets better. I won't spoil it, but you should see it. If I was not on mobile, I would give you a link to it.
Dirty Poul You can put links in mobile. Find the video, go to “Share”, select “Copy link”, and paste it in a comment
@@ourladypeace3 Thank you, but I'm aware. The problem is that it's a bother to do so since there is no easy way to get back to the comment you wanted to reply to. Especially not if it's not one of the top comments.

I just got curious. I have a friend who had a bird named Dagger and when I'd be it would sound EXACTLY like someone opened a can off beer but nobody had a can in their hand. With other noises too, you couldn't tell if it was the real thing or the bird. The replication of the sound was absolutely perfect.
"when parrots live with us, we're their flocks, and they're determined to sing our song" daaaaaamn
Yes, the BBC did record a lyrebird in the wild making perfect camera sounds. That bird also made a bunch of construction noises, because that was _not_ a wild lyrebird- they took a lyrebird from a zoo to record in the wild, because most nature documentaries are movie magicked as much as blockbusters these days...
So it's a lierbird?

I am speechless

Track down the video (David Attenborough - lyrebird) - it also does chainsaws and car alarms. They are quite amazing animals.

"When parrots live with us, we're their flock; and they're determined to sing our song"
Messed me up for a second thinking that human speech would be considered by a bird to be song, but it makes sense.
When parrots live with you, you are their flock which they want to communicate with
I have a african grey parrot he can talk alot of words and i love him 😃😇

Same! Mine talks up a storm and likes to sing in the shower. She always cracks me up constantly!

CoughE Exactly.

Fun fact. Ravens can talk as well! They can even change there pitch to match there owners!
I just think it's beautiful how any animal, regardless of species, can form social bonds with one another.
When i had my bird my mom said when i was at school she would train him to say "i only love (my moms irl name" as a punishment for me when i do something bad lol
I love birds 🐦 remember don’t buy birds ADOPT them so many Abandoned Birds in animal shelters they live for a long time they are a life commitment
I work with an exotic bird rescue and had two parakeets from them and they're all so adorable I wish I had room for them all
But well they be attached to there original owner?i always wondered that
@@oofoof6823
some of them will specially larger birds
but you can still earn their trust and it's a slow progress it depends on the bird
That “hello” from the bird is funny as heck for some reason
You provide more valuable content in four minutes than most long documentaries.
Many parrots can live anywhere between about 30 to 60 years and that's in captivity (it's lower when in the wild). They're the ultimate lifetime pet. I've only ever had dogs and a few cats, but having a parrot that can communicate would also be awesome.
2:33 did it just say bruh??
The "will you Mary me" made me realize talking animals would be the creepiest thing ever

Eat your heart out Michael Winslow.
In other words, birds are amazing
I have cockatiels and I love this video. They all whistle and imitate each other, but the oldest says “beijo beijo”, which means “kiss kiss” in Portuguese, and then replicates the sound of kissing. It’s impressive how smart and attentive they are
