I thought the same thing about the daughter not wanting to make her mom pay more just for a white that's already a shade away from another white. I also thought the mom's dress for her daughter was perfect.

If I were in the same position, I would say the same. I would not pay $1000 extra to buy a dress that theoretically is in a different shade of color but actually nobody can tell the difference.
I don't get it. Ivory, cream, off-white are all different shades of white as far as I'm concerned. And hardly anybody looks good in super bright pure white.

Actually no trust me in the right lighting you can see a big difference and when you have a wedding the lighting is everything in artificial light some dresses looks amazing but in natural light it look so ugly .
Darker skin is complemented much better by ivory than pure white.... pure white often looks tacky and even blue sometimes.
Same goes for very fair skin.
Although darker skin still looks good in any of these colours to be honest.
Dark skin looks good in any colour the contrast of White is amazing against black skin. It's pale people that need to watch what colours they wear because it's very easy for them to look washed out

My dress was emerald green. When an aunt of the (catholic) groom asked me why I hadn't chosen a traditional white I told her I was traditional. I had lost my right on white years ago.

For those wondering, these shades of white are determined by undertone. "Pure white" doesn't have a detectable undertone. Ivory has a slight yellow undertone, and because this particular pride has a darker complexion with what looks like an orange/pink undertone, the ivory gowns are hard to discern from white gowns.

you'd notice it more if you put the dresses beside each other,there is a very slight difference between them. The pure whites shine more and also really part themselves from the rest of the body while cream kinda melts together with your skin.From what I've seen cream looks really weird with some skin colours though and pure white sometimes stands out a bit too much .personally I like ivory because it looks like white with a gentle shade on it.

My partner is red/green colour blind and he can tell the difference in colours but he thinks peanut butter is green not brown

I was told by a bridal consultant that finding white samples in store is near impossible bc it's just not that popular anymore. I get the symbolic significance of white, but what matters most is that the bride feels beautiful and bridal and that's not always in a color. She's a beautiful bride with a beautiful heart! Hilary C the only thing annoying is how anyone can find anything bad to say about this episode. Obviously the daughter loved her mom and her relationship with her mom. And in the end the mom let the daughter have the dress she wanted. People don’t understand the concept of family anymore. The mom wasn’t doing anything wrong. I got a little teary-eyed watching this episode. I have 3 daughters and it is tough to see them as young women and having to let them go, but at the same time I was excited for them to start that new chapter in their lives. This bride looked beautiful in her pick and her mom is wonderful.

I get it, her mom takes pride in the fact that she has raised a wonderful daughter and had a hand in so many of her daughters triumphs along the way but weddings are the time where you allow your child to enter into a new chapter of their life where they can choose the things surrounding it to send them off with an ideal start of their own vision. Tradition has it that parents pay from the brides side, and while yes you don’t want a bridezilla on your hands, you want them to have control of a day that sets off the rest of their life.

My dress was designed just for me, nobody with me. I paid for it myself. Even my shoes where in exactly the same color.
My mother and grandmother saw my dress on the day I got married. They were a bit wide eyed when it came out of the bag. As soon as I wore it they loved it. My mother did my hair with a ribbon from the same fabric of me dress. She was very happy to do that for me. My grandmother painted my nails with her nailpolish. That's the way they contributed to my wedding.
