Absolutely love your concept and approach to piecing this together. Replicating Mick's mix and consistency via dynamics is always a bit tough to capture at first. But sonically and melodically, I think you absolutely nailed it. Keep crushing it, Nick (Gordon).

Sounds amazing! Half the play count on the original video is probably me listening to it over and over and over. Thanks for sharing this. I'm sorry you had the Covid and I hope you feeling good again.
Dude, the track turned out sounding really sick, you really nailed it and I like it A LOT better than the original. The riffs go unbelievably hard 🔥 Just a little feedback, I feel like the mix is a little too compressed overall, which is especially noticeable when the instruments kick in after the intro. I feel like the intro is louder than the band part and the low end feels kinda lacking, which takes away from the impacts of the key moments. The limiter really pushes everything down too much when the song's supposed to hit. If you kept it a little more dynamic overall (e.g. by going easier on the OTT and removing the Devil-Loc, noticeable at 28:34) it would've hit harder I think. You could've then compensated the lack of volume by raising the makeup gain on the FG-Grey. Aside from that, top notch work man!
I didn’t even see the original, and with that being said, even as a musician/song writer/producer just SLAPPED me across the face. Love the creativity going on. The little subtleties make the LOUDEST of impact which I see you are doing a lot of the right way.
Seeing a plugin that Alan has poured his heart into over the past 12 months being use in a Nick Broomhall video is giving even me a sense of accomplishment! Congrats StudySoundAudio & Alan Rigdon!
Incredibly helpful video! I'd love to see the whole process as well if one day you'd be up for doing a livestream/livestream vod of you making a track from start to finish so we could see your thought process and workflow in real time. just an idea
Happy to see you taking a lot of the resampling approach. I think it's likely the fastest route to the original sound off DOOM Eternal. I'm working on a library for argent metal musicians right now which focuses on resampling. Also, I HAVE TO DISAGREE Mick Gordon played the guitars on DOOM Eternal. PLAY THE GUITARS ON YOUR TRACKS IT SOUNDS BETTER.
This is awesome! I gotta say I prefer playing the guitar myself even if i’m no Fredrik Thordendal, but getting the bends right is easier than you might expect, you just need a guitar with an Evertune. 10:56 my approach to bass is usually a saturated sine wave sub (add a third harmonic, distort and low pass it) and some pretty aggressive distorted industrial synths, which are both playing in the same octave as the guitars. Depending on the track i also put in a bass guitar grit track, either in the same octave or one lower.
I think it's less about getting bends that are in tune and more about getting the curve exactly the same between several instruments and the easiest way to do that is to copy the pitch bend information to the other instruments (and having the bend range be the same between those instruments as well)
@@nickbroomhallmusic for sure! I just meant after all the MIDI is sorted, it’s really useful to have an Evertune guitar because it’s so much easier to track with one, since once you know how to bend for a specific part, you can replicate the performance more effectively
Can’t help but notice how much low end (and high end in some cases) information you’re leaving in, but it sounds soooo good. I do this too but get told off by everyone for it and it absolutely murders headroom, have you found a way around this or something because your mixes always sound so huge!

This is awesome to see. I know you programmed the guitars but have you tried playing it on guitar and more importantly have you got a tab for that riff 😊
@@nickbroomhallmusic Dude you should totally try it out! I've been using that as my side chain for years and it makes a world of a difference. I used it for the DOOM track I made recently and with so much low end it just tightens everything up so much better than any side chain compressor.
What kind of a beast PC/MAC do you have to be able to handle this many plugins and effects? I have a pretty decent pc but still I get into problems when using a bunch of different plugins..
If you copy the left guitars midi to the right side is it still give you the double tracked effect? or will it center to mono? Or did you use something to keep it double tracked?
@@dtrmnts Our library has two separate presets for guitar left and right with their own sample pool. We have an update coming shortly that will have a stereo guitar setting for anyone wanting to just put a stereo track of midi into their session!
Hello! At 9:04 I noticed you have the bass midi track and sending it to the Grit track and a Sub track. How can I accomplish this same routing set up in Ableton?
Not sure how to do it in Ableton but I accomplished that just by turning the output off on my djinnbass track and sending the audio to two different aux tracks!
Unfortunately I got really sick with Covid while out of town last week, so I couldn't film an episode 😷 We'll be back to regularly scheduled programming this week though!
I had an 8 string schecter blood moon 🩸 🌕 that was perfect for this music but I could NEVER get past the headstock. It was ugly and not compatible with the body or finish of the guitar. I sold it and it’s a shame schecter didn’t take a deeper consideration into the appearance of the guitar.
If you're going to track real guitars, I'd recommend smashing the hell out of the DI before it hits the amp. I have Nolly X from Neural DSP and use the compressor and overdrive to smoosh that signal before the amp. It helps with consistency as you're essentially getting rid of the dynamics.
@@benstanfill363 He's right, guitars are the most accessible instrument in the world. If you can play then don't use VSTs. Otherwise all your tracks are just glorified demos trying to mimic the real thing and you will hit a brick wall in production quality.
