I know exactly what you mean about worrying about your family worrying, that's messed with my head a couple of times as well, just wish that Garmin was a bit cheaper! All the best. J
The lakes are beautiful don't get up there much due to distance snowdonia is much closer to me..but the colours in the lakes stunning..just ordered a scarp 1 most of the niggles seem pretty minor and easy to mod hopefully..my usual winter tent is a nammatj 2 but it's near 3.5kg with footprint 😕 think my back will thank me if the scarp works out 👍
I bought a PLB after some humming and hawing just like you, but without the messaging facility, just a SOS transmitter. Still kind of resent carrying the 116g extra weight but as you say there's some peace of mind in there and it could save your life. I've just heard that Apple are including a satellite SOS facility on their next generation of iPhones, initially only enabled for North America, but it's a fair bet we'll see the technology making its way into more phones worldwide, which will mean we can ditch our separate PLBs and lose some pack weight. Also more false activations and callouts inevitable, but hey...
I was looking for myself in the background 😂 I must have been 30mins behind you. Spoke to two guys who said they had spoken to a guy with camera gear.. must have been yourself… cracking video mate. I left really early as I was getting hammered by that wind. Tent looks class, xtherm is great too. Nice winter setup 👍🏼 I very nearly headed over to high street but I’d camped it before and I loved the view when I passed Mardale Ill Bell. Great work!
Haha would have been good to meet you mate. Was that the 2 lads with the dog? I almost went back to pitch on Mardale Ill as that view down the valley was spectacular but I’d wanted to camp on High Street for a while so I stuck it out there. Would highly recommend the tent! The MLD looks class too but I think I’d be single very quickly if I bought another tent haha!
