Something I noticed,after Leo became their Sensei after Splinter died,I feel like Leo took what Splinter said about Mikey being the most talented to heart and tried to put a lot of work into him and his ninja abilities. That’s why he paired them up together more in the later episodes. He kinda wanted to make Mikey his personal protégé (at least that’s the vibe I got)

Looking back at the 2012 TMNT series, I never realized how much Leo and Mikey actually get along. They’re really cool with each other, rarely getting into conflict with each other
It's also worth mentioning that despite Leo being angry at Mikey's jokes and criticizing him to become more serious he never really downplayed his potential like he did with Raph and Donnie. Leo understands Mikey's abilities and even though he was salty of him being a leader and giving orders Leo never doubted Mikey would save the day and even the world like he did 3 times in season 5

I love these to cause Leo and Mikey seems to have a great relationship Leo barely gets mad at him he didn’t hit Mikey when he hit him with the water balloon plus Leo could be argued he deeply cares and loves him and even if Leo would get annoyed or mad he forgives him almost every time and it’s also showed that Leo always takes Mikey’s side instead of raph and Mikey even hugged him when he thought Leo was crying

You can tell as the series went on Leo was getting more and more emotionally unstable (especially in season 4), it’s a little sad seeing the first seasons of him being a total awkward dork and then him having to shed a lot of that carefree energy especially when he became the head of their clan. With All that pressure he was bound to explode. Honestly I think besides Mikey all the boys have anger issues.
