Holly was awesome, I agree! Bob always put her down; hope he was joking! I didn't like what this contestant said about Holly...seriously? Keep it to yourself even if you think it!
I’ve seen a couple of these Holly bloopers. I’ll tell you what she was gorgeous back then and she still gorgeous. Now it’s hard to believe she’s going to be 71 years old.
I can name a more heartbreaking card game loss than this. It was that contestant, Patricia, who had her bid just right to win the car, but the audience told her to go lower. She ended up with a bid that was too low because she listened and they were wrong. Sometimes, you should trust your own ability to play the game because the audience does not always know any better.
I always refer to the late professional bowler Billy Welu, with his quote being "Trust is a must or your game is a bust." when it comes to those situations.
This is also the first appearance of the “New” Card Game: new paint job, new special card deck, the unlimited ace rule and an opening bid of $2,000. And boy, what a painful way to launch a new set - over by $9!
I liked Jannette's side comment about Holly "I watch her every day she's accident prone." then Bob said that's a nice way of just of saying she's a klutz!! Gotta love Holly though!
I have the table and chairs at the 2:00 mark! I got them from a local shop. They were original owner, the elderly couple was down sizing. I love them and I love having this little piece of history of them.
I have no doubt there are some of those Isuzu trucks still on the road. In fact that truck the Nissan pickup are two of the best vehicles ever made out of all cars and trucks.
The New Card game, the Aces are wild as always and are no long between $1-$1000, can now by anything, $200, $300, & $400 range are also no more, because it confuses losing when someone goes over like that, the card starting to opening bid is no more, the $2,000 is starting the opening bid. That's a heartbreaking of a $9 overbid.
Oh daaaang! That really sucked man! Over by a measly 9 bucks. I was very sure she'd win. Those small pick-ups from the 80's were very nice. Now, in 2024 the smallest Japanese imported pick-up seems to be as big as a full-size domestic 1980's one.
6700$ for a truck in 1983.... wow. In 83 the average yearly income per person was 22k. So you could theoretically buy up to 3 of these trucks with a single person salary. Try that today !
The woman who waives at the camera at 0:08 to 0:09 seconds…I swear, she’s in a lot of episodes from the early 80’s, always in the same seat and waiving in the opening. Does anyone know who this is? Wonder if she worked for the show in some capacity.
That would be Gina Edwards Nyman who's smiling and waving to the camera and yes, she was part of the The Price is Right staff at the time as a production assistant, going back to 1979 during Season 7 as far as episodes go in terms of circulation. She just recently retired after 44 years of working on the show - a record I don't think will be broken by any other staff member. Back then what she did (and other staffers prior to Gina getting hired did it too) was to make sure that the contestants who didn't win the one bid during each act had to sit down and before the next one bid came, ensured the contestants stood at the correct podiums. She also had other roles like being part of the contestant coordinating selection, ordering/organizing graphics, cued the sound effects person whether to ding or buzz, and supervised special effects operators/scoring. After May 1984 once the show got more popular they decided it was no longer necessary to have someone be dedicated to that task. But I'm sure for Gina, getting a front row seat was a really cool job for her during some of the show's best years from the late 70s/early 80s.
That’s very interesting. I was on the show in 1997. I was one of the first four contestants and did not get on stage for the first segment. I remember someone coming over and explaining that we needed to sit down and stay at the podium and I was thinking…”I know all this. I want to watch the show! You’re distracting me!” 😅The guy who got on stage was playing for a car and won it! I was happy for him. I played punch-a-bunch and won some dough.
Holly was the prettiest, funniest and most loveable of them all and you gotta love the drumroll right before she kicks the mike away from Bob.

The bloopers are what make the game show better. That's one reason it's worth watching. You never know what will happen next.
Not like the scripted "reality" reality shows on now. The old live Carol Burnett Show was a hoot.

I have to admit. When she lost by only $9, my mouth dropped. I feel so bad for her. 😢😢
I love Holly so much....especially for the fact that she was relentless in her battle for justice, which she finally won.
I definitely have a major crush on Holly back in the day here:)
Holly was to TPIR what Maryann was to Gilligan's Island, Bailey was to WKRP in Cincinnati, and Betty was to the Archie comics.
