Fiber art or fabric postcards and greeting cards are a lovely way to let someone know how much you care. Using materials you already have on hand, put as much or as little time and attention as you want into these items. Even a primitive sewing style results in remarkably meaningful little items. I hope you find some time to try these...
0:21 Cards I got in a sewing group trade...each one is special.
2:08 The backs of the cards. Please do your own thing and try to use what you have.
    3:36 FOUNDATION IDEAS:
commercial stabilizer like Peltex or Timtex: some types are fusible on 1 or both sides.
    buckram
    stiff fabric like duck
    batting
re-use something else that is lying around
    4:25 BACKING IDEAS:
    photo paper
commercial postcard or greeting card stock
    printable fabric
    scrap booking paper
    random this or that
6:41 Making the Greeting Card with FUSIBLES: I am using fabric scraps, sew-in Peltex, Wonder-Under, a little Steam A Seam, cards by Avery and Staples, and printable fabric by June Taylor to make my card. Please follow manufacturer instructions for any of these products that you use.
8:11 Expectations - precise or perfect sewing doesn't necessarily make a card the most charming...
8:50 All-over quilting keeps the card nice and flat.
9:05 Caution: satin stitching and small stitches will perforate (cut) card stock until it falls apart.
9:35 I attach my front to the cardstock so that the quilting shows behind using Steam A Seam and one row of stitching.
10:48 Making the Postcard (without fusibles) using Raw-Edge Applique techniques - first I sew a background to my Peltex with my edge stitcher, mitering the corners.
11:36 Add some large areas of interest.
12:04 Add flower like the ones I did on the big teal and red coaster. Here is that video: • Raw Edge Applique Coas...
    12:48 Adding the stamens.
13:17 Preparing the backing from printed fabric and zigzagging it down.
14:03 Please send me your project pics.

These are beautiful! Is there any additional cleaning for the machine you have to do because you’re stitching in card stock?

If you are already proficient at free-motion quilting, this should be achievable. Otherwise, I recommend practicing your stipple/meander on a scrap quilt sandwich before trying this. They are super manageable and fun though. Thanks for watching and commenting. And Happy Raw-Edge Appliqué -ing!!

I really appreciated your several reminders to use what you have on hand, to not go out and buy special, to appreciate it for its own charm, the whys of it (not perforating card/ promotes creativity, eg.), and you showing examples of the many alternates of both project materials and all the outcomes. I appreciated all that because I can get stuck in the "must go buy" groove. That was goid for me to hear. Really super video, thank you.
Unrelated: what is your new ( now 4 yr old) machine?

Just found your beautiful tutorials, you mention several times about sharing our work, please explain how to do that. I have a small panel with musical instruments on it, would like to embellish it before I make a wall hanging. You have given me some great ideas. Thanks for taking the time to do these.

Thank you, and please do send me your "Zazu-inspired" project pics. I just had the drawing for this set of prizes. You can see them on Zazu's community tab or on Facebook here:
      ua-cam.com/channels/tu0tyAMWMPsXhJZrlVvPDA.htmlcommunity?disable_polymer=1 facebook.com/ZazusStitchArt/photos/a.907147702705862.1073741828.902066169880682/1671342966286328/?type=3&theater
But after I receive enough new pics (25 to 30 people) there will be another drawing for similar prizes and another viewer project video like this: ua-cam.com/video/LGBD2wk0jno/v-deo.html
BTW, I also post the pics on my website and social media. The best way to get them to me is as a visitor post or message on Zazu's facebook or in an email. Check my about tab here on YT or on my website for my email address.

Sewing season is upon me, I’m so happy...canning season is OVER!
I have a stack of sewing projects I want to do this fall and winter, and I’m thinking the small coasters and some postcards are just the thing to get my sewing chops warmed up.
What’s the deadline for submissions, Beth?

    • @ZazusStitchArt

There really isn't one. I am planning to wait until I get at least 25 pics. I will make sure and announce a cut-off during a video when I get close. I think you will have plenty of time, judging by the past. Great to hear from you!

Hi ma'am. I love your tutorials very pretty projects and well explained info. I have a question if you don't mind. How do you sell your merchandise.? Thank you so very much.

    • @ZazusStitchArt
      @ZazusStitchArt  6 років тому +3

This is a big subject. The short answer is mostly hand-selling at my local farmers' market and regional summer art fairs and holiday shows. The personal connection of talking to shoppers combined with them being able to pick up the work and see it up close always worked for me. I never found much of a market online. Thanks for watching and commenting!
