Difference between someone who has rowed on the water and one who has only been on the machine is clearly evident hear. The extremely early back break on the cross fitter brings tears to my eyes :)
not sure if ignorant to the efficiency in movement, or all 122 of you (r. johnston included) cannot do 25 butterfly pullups that quickly during a metcon...
I love how no one here is supporting the cross fitter. And I definitely see why. If you are a rower too you would know that most of the stuff is arms in this competition and rowers have the legs
Not fair to the rower as the 250m rows are too short. Go for 1000 or 2000 on the end and it would be more of a fair fight A 250 m distance only separates the poor rowers from the good ones by a few seconds because it's too short. Even poor rowers who are reasonably fit can muscle their way through a 250. Also, body weight exercises like pull ups favor smaller/shorter people and taller people are also at more of a disadvantage on oly lifts like cleans/thrusters because they have to lift through more distance which is just more work. Double unders are also a skill primarily - less about fitness. But even there, shorter people have more of an advantage there as well since they are dealing with a shorter rope.
Make it be on the water and crossfitter has 0 change. On the machine is just so different and obviously requires way less technique, which is where the rower would win immediately (I mean, obviously it's impossible to expect someone who was never on the water before to have a chance)
This was really just a CrossFit guy beating a non-CrossFit guy. The fact that the other guy was a rower became inconsequential once he started doing high-intensity lifting right before the erg race. The lactic acid and stress is already at a point where the aerobic work is probably not sustainable, so you are far less likely to see a thrashing victory from the rower. That said, I remember my brief time at a CrossFit gym involving a competitive CF athlete and trainer who was taller and heavier than me (and probably took steroids), but he was so confused about how a guy so much smaller than him could be scoring so much better on the erg. If you rowed through your teens then you might have impressive sport-specific leg and upper-back muscle endurance even years after you quit the sport and work behind a desk 24/7.
The requirements were set for the workout, the exercise was not strict pull ups, it was CrossFit’s definition of a legal kipping pull up rep. The guidelines were set for this particular workout and both athletes were allowed to perform the exercises however they wish providing they meet the particular guidelines. The demo started reps are what the athlete/s decided to do and what they felt worked best for them. The rules were followed and the reps were performed correctly and efficiently. If you don’t like then official guidelines and requirements for reps in the sport of CrossFit, there are plenty of other sports and competitions that have different work requirements, go watch one of them instead of hosting on this modern sport.
The reason I think this is an inaccurate test of who is more athletic is because they had a rower vs a crossfitter do a crossfit workout. If they would have them compete in a rowing workout such as 20x1min on 1 min rest whoever gets the most meters wins the crossfitter would be 1000m behind
Contest set up for cross fit to win. Very little rowing involved. And ya, a 1:36 split for only 250 meters is not optimum for a young rower. At 47 years old that time would not be acceptable to me. A big guy this young should be able to destroy me in any erg contest.
I consistently row around 575 m in 2 minutes on a Concept 2 at resistance 8 (=highest) and I'm no rower. What's with all these numbers? Some hidden talent of mine (lol... ) or some different way of measuring?
The rower was absolutely brilliant in my opinion. The crossfitter pull ups looked like a joke. Why swing your entire body to gain momentum !!!! Rower Wins in my Books
The WOD is not fair to the rower. The row should have been at least 1000m at the beginning and the end. Pull ups, if you dont butterfly, you lose time. The WOD has to be even.
So, a Rower vs a Crossfitter, doing all but one CrossFit type exercise? What's the point? Easy to know who'd win. Guess it made the Crossfitter feel good. May as well do Decathlete vs Pole Vaulter 😃
That poor crossfiter will end on a wheelchair if he keeps rowing like that. Oh and by the way, it's supposed to be Rower VS Crossfitter and not Crossfiter VS Crossfiter. Sorry but this video is pointless even though the idea was very promising. I hope there will be another version starring an active rower.

250 meters x2 , was quit unfair. Fair would be about half of the time rowing, and the other half doing other crossfit stuff. Maybe 450 meters x2, would be more appropriate
I was reading the comment section, think they were mean.. saw the performance.. could do some few changes in the strategie to adopt regarsing this workout.. and need more skills and practice for everg movement ! overall 6 outta 10
This Challenge needs to increase the length of the rows to 500 or 750m in order to make the rowing portion ratio equal to all the "crossfit" exercises. The 250's were :45 secs ea.? WTF? Like triathlon it is rigged for the runner. Swimming is only a small portion of the events and therefore makes Swimming a non-factor. Even bikers get screwed.
Not sure the point of this. The rower said he does CrossFit not. And the cross fitter probably rows as part of his routine. So this was a cross fitter vs a cross fitter. 🤦🏾♂️
Wahaha what the fuck where those pullups. I thought this was an official competition. The editing looks really good except the music but the pullups ruined everything LMAO
It doesn’t make any sense. It is clear that rower can’t perform proper clean or even DU nor butterfly pull ups. The last one really speeds up!!! He lacks on technique not on endurance.

here*
This should have very simply been a 2K..
Should've made them do a 30r20 or a power hour 🤣
The crossfitter would have blown up after 500m...
crossfit pull ups dont count rowers always win
what the hell are those pull ups by the crossfitter - stupid test
not sure if ignorant to the efficiency in movement, or all 122 of you (r. johnston included) cannot do 25 butterfly pullups that quickly during a metcon...
Kaya Bengue I bet someone who can do 25 butterfly pull-ups cannot do 10 correctly performed pull-ups....
rhuttner12 I mean, I'll film a video of me Doing 20 strict if You want?
With those pull ups you can do it faster and thats it
I mean.... I prefer not destroying my shoulder personally.
Rower isnt even pushing himself that hard.....too many breaks. A real olympic rower would obliterate any crossfitter.
Fake news. The rower always wins.
absoultly
Riley Dueck he is not even a rower it's just a crossfiter who rowed in the past so the whole video just makes no sense
Dan Cater where do you row?! 1:34 split is average for your U20's.... holy heck.
a well trainer rower do 500m at 1:20 or less, for 250 can be under this.
men maybe, i'd love to see a female do this (not a sexist comment, i'm a female rower)
I love how no one here is supporting the cross fitter. And I definitely see why. If you are a rower too you would know that most of the stuff is arms in this competition and rowers have the legs
Lmao this so ironic. Rowers always complain about people thinking there sport is arms when the only upper body dominant exercise here is the pullup
Not fair to the rower as the 250m rows are too short. the rower isn't even a rower and those pull ups were absolutely disgraceful
hes just doing the worm in the air
He actually looks like he's having a seizure

with those chin ups, the crossfitter should be disqualified
Didn't require strict pullups.
But those were shit pullups Mike

for a guy who rowed hes form is flawed ...hes wrists are not flat and he breaks his back too early
maria polanco your dumb
flunked- you are, everyone rows with bent wrist now and it's not right
Funny how your so called 'rower' isn't even a rower
hes pathetic on the erg for his size aye hahaha
i know right
Matt Baguley his quads and back are way too lean
Contest set up for cross fit to win. Very little rowing involved. And ya, a 1:36 split for only 250 meters is not optimum for a young rower. At 47 years old that time would not be acceptable to me. A big guy this young should be able to destroy me in any erg contest.

I believe the damper is highest at 10, not 8. Perhaps you're using a different model Concept 2 ? Something besides a model D or E?
John Agapos its 8 indeed, typo :)
Jan Kroeze you must be on a different erg because all concept 2 ergs for the last 12 years have had a max resistance of 10. And yes I used to row. 👍🏻
@@jankroeze2626 1:36 split means 1:36 per 500m, therefore you do a 250m with 1:36 split in 48 seconds.
Amir Uddin agreed. 250m is nothing, and the crossfitter is much better at small burst sets and would definitely lose holding 2 1k's against the rower
So, a Rower vs a Crossfitter, doing all but one CrossFit type exercise? What's the point? Easy to know who'd win. Guess it made the Crossfitter feel good. May as well do Decathlete vs Pole Vaulter 😃
The next Rowing is Passion, must be about ROWER vs CANOEISTS
We'll smash the rowers
Harry Glackin you wish 😉
Babett Juhos canoeist always wins
And include some heavy squats.
Only strict pull-ups or chin-ups no kipping allowed.
no one asked you
@Suny123boy1 Kipping is using your momentum and drive from legs to ease up the work required from your back and biceps to get you over the bar.
That poor crossfiter will end on a wheelchair if he keeps rowing like that.
Oh and by the way, it's supposed to be Rower VS Crossfitter and not Crossfiter VS Crossfiter.
Sorry but this video is pointless even though the idea was very promising. I hope there will be another version starring an active rower.
rowing is the best sport in the world
Yes
Ahahahaha I'm dead what were those crossfitter's pull-ups?😂😂
For a rower, that tall dude rows extremely short on an erg, the little guy was rowing a longer stroke
The requirements were set for the workout, the exercise was not strict pull ups, it was CrossFit’s definition of a legal kipping pull up rep. The only thing that bothers me about cross fit is that there is no consistency of form. Real life and actual competition are not so forgiving.
1:32 average for 250 = ass
Canuck Berserker it's embarasssing I'm j16 and I've a 500m 1:28
Bonga 奔 OMG I'm J16 and I've a 500m in 1:40 😂 GG
Canuck Berserker fuk 250 come on 2k lets see ther how fast can you go
Facts I'm 15 and my 500m is 1:42 lmaoo by the end of winter I'll be pulling those numbers
Not fair to the rower. 250m is bothering. The crossfitter beat him because crossfit involves small burst of energy. At least make it a 1k
Quite imprecise. How can you measure to different persons properly and exactly?
250 meters x2 , was quit unfair.
Fair would be about half of the time rowing, and the other half doing other crossfit stuff.
Maybe 450 meters x2, would be more appropriate
250m erg?? lol and wtf are those chin-ups???
I do 1000m for a warmup lol plus a 1/2 mile run and cycle 5 minutes at 120rpm
Get a rower who is currently a rower because that 'rower' had 0 endurance
song?
Warriyo - Mortals
I'm sorry but the form was horrible in both of them except for the rowing in the rower and hopscotch in both
Sehr geiles Video Erwin! Bei mir kommt a bald ein Video vom Staatsmeister im Freestyle Kajaking Oli! (;
Spannender Vergleich
Is that a pull up?
WHOA! WHOA! WHOA WHOA whoa whoa whoa whoa... whoa... This is not my batman glass.
Crossfitter vs crossfitter
"That was a hard 250 meters" - no one ever
I was reading the comment section, think they were mean.. saw the performance.. could do some few changes in the strategie to adopt regarsing this workout.. and need more skills and practice for everg movement ! overall 6 outta 10
What's the song title in the beginning of video please??
0 pullups completed by the crossfitter.
The pull-ups set the rower up to fail. We don't train that way
Crossfitter wins a crossfit workout. Big surprise.
Would u look at that another vid putting down rowers and those chin ups are scaring me
25 pull ups after all that!? Haha I need to get in shape!
What the heck r those pushups from burpees
What's the song called?????
👍🏻 echt lässiger schnitt
What is that form lol?
What's the song called at 2:15? Great vid btw!!
My money is on the rower for the 2k and 5k.
just 2k challenge the crossfitter, he would quit after 250m. Never gone farther on the erg
1000m is my standard warmup along with a mile run and 5 min cycle at 120rpm
This Challenge needs to increase the length of the rows to 500 or 750m in order to make the rowing portion ratio equal to all the "crossfit" exercises. The 250's were :45 secs ea.? WTF? lmao WHAT THE FUCK I KNOW KIPPING BUT THATS SOME WORM DANCING LOOKING LIKE A FUCKING NOODLE
the hell are those "pull ups"
songs name?
If the erg was longer the rower would've had a better shot...
What the FUCK were those pull ups ROFLLLL
Haha if this guys has ever been in a row boat I am really glad I didn't had to row with him
0:37 man likes water sports 😏
Lache un commentaire quand meme
Hahaha, whew good competition.
But seriously what the actual FUCK were those pull ups
Not sure the point of this. The rower said he does CrossFit not. And the cross fitter probably rows as part of his routine. So this was a cross fitter vs a cross fitter. 🤦🏾♂️
1.that's not a rower look at his weak legs it is impossible for a rower and he is rowing wrong.
2. cmooon that is called pullups?
Wahaha what the fuck where those pullups. I thought this was an official competition. The editing looks really good except the music but the pullups ruined everything LMAO
What the actual fuck were those pill ups
What the fuck were those pull ups?
On regarde seulement nous
You are defenitly a machine 😶
the chin-ups look like interpretive dance
the rower isn't a rower anymore, kinda stupid test
The rower shouldn't have lost that much time on 50 jump ropes smh
Rowimg os life
what are these burpees...
At the rack …. pull-ups are complete no-reps for both. First learn how to CTB in Rx, then do a battle.
weird, they have pull ups on the WOD, but the did kipping instead, and passed thru......FAIL
There is no way that guy is ACTUALLY a rower. His technique is technically not (see what I did there).
Darude - Sandstorm
Should of squat clean the last 15 reps
It doesn’t make any sense. It is clear that rower can’t perform proper clean or even DU nor butterfly pull ups. The last one really speeds up!!! He lacks on technique not on endurance.
It’s so sad that CrossFit has the need to show us the dominance over Olympic sports . I see some people competing in random stuff just for fun.
6:11 whats that? tarzan style? ;)
pull ups not swing ups
Wtf? I’m only ducking 15 and can row 250 faster than that
Nothing makes me cringe like watching a crossfitter flop the fish on a pull-up bar.
Could have had Clark Daddy Dean
Those crossfit "pull-ups" look like a flopping dolphin
really annoyed by how crossfit is making those kipping pull ups a norm
those burpies for crossfit tho...
When your rower isn't even a rower. Fake News
Those jerky moves..... can't they injure you?
>CROSSFIT
Crossfit Pullups DON"T Count!!!!
He is nothing more than a sunday rower in the park... his technique is sooo f bad...
Those crossfit pullups made me nauseous
A rower vs a crossfitter, obviously the CROSSFITter will win.
Typical cross fit make the rower do cross fit to prove crossfit is better
