People talking about torque wrench and other big terms have never seen life beyond a company showroom or company workshop. They don’t know that many of these uneducated mechanics are far better than educated engineers. They think out of the box.
I am from India and we have a lot of road side mechanics and shops who do a far better job than big workshops , at a fraction of the cost and the end result is also fantastic. They are reliable and people go to them by choice.

These old Cat engines are really tough and easy to work on. They would often break the R/H motor mount bolt off. I repaired many of them over the years.

There will be a lot of criticism, but the bottom line is how well and how long does it run when their through, the reason they don’t use things is , they don’t have them. There’s way more to using a torque wrench than making it click or beep, most people on UA-cam don’t have a clue.

Actually if you 100 lbs on a 1ft lever you have ........100 lbs/ft torque. Its not complicated, they just have to find a guy the right weight to stand on a lever the right length.

Have the techs ever considered using a torque wrench ….they have grossly over torqued the rod bolts and have no real idea of the main big torque…I’m not trolling them as they are doing a decent job….but honestly after the labor and parts invested the proper torque is needed to insure your work is not in vain

The negative comments on here need to be ignored. These are made by armchair mechanics.
The work these guys are doing here is just as good if not better than any European or US workshop standards.
This particular company have rebuilt hundreds of Cat engines without issue and have more experience than most.
If their work was sub standard their engines would have limited life or let go. They just don't. They rebuild these Cat motors to go on to do many thousands of hours further work without issue.

Well I don't know how long this thing is going to last, but there is no doubt at all that all them big ends and headbolts are painfully going to be all rattling loose and then they'll be back on square one again. Anyone ever heard of a Torque wrench, Angle tightening specifications? A technician or workshop engineer from caterpillar would love to see this, NOOOOT!

but usually those repairs last for a long time.. i know they should used a Torque wrench. but those guys have tighten those same type of bolt from like age 10-12. they know how tight they should be by feel. and most of the time. i mean most of the time they work great.
