This Denise has a very typical victim mentality. She forgets that getting into accidents such as face cutting is her criminal occupation's hazard. Old but good movie.
The plea rate in criminal cases is much higher than the quoted 58%. More like 85% and may be higher. I have seen innocent people take plea deals rather than take the risk of loosing at trials and face stiffer sentences. For those who take to trial, less than 50% get a not guilty verdict. So it does not matter what strategy one takes when being charged criminally, the odds are stacked against that individually greatly.
What really turns this system and the percentages you are quoting 'on its ear' is the caliber of the lawyers involved (monied cases). That's when all kind of things happen for those who can afford it. Truly amazing with what some people can get away with..........
Haven't seen the prosecutor since she danced with Swayze in the dance movie. This was very good movie. There is much improvement needed in the justice system. I know they r overloaded with cases. I think Ms. Moore was running for Jesse. Who says to the person that's robbing you, you're going to pay? Either you're really bold or you know someone that's going to take care of it. Where did Jesse get the money for the diapers? He said he bought them but he didn't have a job. She does drugs but still has things she doesn't sell or part with; earrings, necklace etc. She's doing okay. She disappeared after the robbery. Because she does drugs Jesse assumed she took off or was high somewhere. He took the plea at the end because he knows her and was scared she had much, much more to tell. He knew he didn't have a chance. She feels it was his fault she was robbed and cut. Justice all the same for her even if the story is a little different. She wanted him to get more time in the end.

Why didn’t anyone get a search warrant to look for the knife and stolen belongings in Jessie’s house? Why didn’t anyone go to all the stores he went to since the date of the robbery and find out what he paid with or find his receipts?
Guys I need help I'm little confused we knew at the first time The Chase Williams was an innocent and that girl whatever her name was she was a liar so what kind of end was that,
Wow! I am so confused. I mean, there are 2 sides of the story here. First. The way Jessy was sure that Denice was not gonna come i was very sure that he was responsible for the crime because he knew that he had threatened her BUT The way he couldn't even describe the crime scene got me thinking... maybe he's just afraid that he would stay in jail for long, maybe he didn't commit the crime!😢
In a way the flaw remains in root on the belief of the people resolving the crime by bringing somone to justice while the case is marked as controversial. Then guilty or not everyone would respond the same. Thus one has to pray that a similar crime ( pray for a crime!!!!), would be committed while reside behind bars and the blues could link the crimes in question to seek of a truthful solution to the cases in total
I think he's innocent. She's the only one lying because she lied to the Grand Jury and stated that she went to see her friend Anthony and the police investigation proved no one named Anthony lived there. Also she lied and said that she wasn't using drugs when in fact she began smoking Crack after she purchased it in the hallway. Her judgment is impaired by the Crack use, vision impaired by the cut under the eye and the dark hallway at night
@@tko718 I think so too. I didn't get it though why he suddenly changed his mind to plea bargain when he saw her. At first I thought he knew her from the past and they probably had misunderstanding/quarrel and he thought she's out to get her vengeance by nailing him on a crime he didn't commit. And that probably she used a different name hence he didn't know until he saw her who the accuser was. I'm afraid I'm not explaining it well what I'm thinking...
1:14:42 "Jesse" looks overwhelmed with compassion ... I also thought what you mention, however the other side could just be that, because of his own feeling (extensive to all jury members), he "knew" he was going to lose the trial... or he just didn't want to fight her and just give it all a somehow "equitative" and quick ending...
The criminal justice system is about lawyers' ego, performance targets, and whatever, but certainly not about actual justice or 'innocent until proven guilty'...
I was wrongfully arrested for a very serious charge in Washington state. The DA should never have charged me but things went ahead anyway. 10 years was the time I’d get if convicted at trial…I conferred with some law enforcement officials from other juridstictions(FBI,etc) and the consensus they came up with is that I had about a 20% chance to be found guilty at trial…After 4 years the DA(with tons of coercion from my top dog$40k lawyer)finally offered me a lesser charge and dropped the enhancement and the time was 365 days in Benton County jail. With good time I spent 8 months incarcerated and now I’m a convicted felon at 55 years old. Anyone can get caught up in the system…Random shit happens all the time…Ask for a lawyer immediately!!! I’ll wonder for the rest of my life if I should have went to trial…But I was so fucking frightened of spending 10 years in prison that. I chickened out…
SPOILER ALERT!!!!!! ==== Lol... Only 7:07 mins in and when she chose the pic of Forest Whittaker, I knew she chose the wrong man cuz the voice of the robber sounded NOTHING like Forest's voice... Lol Peace :-)
Boogie Down Bronx but they knew each other. Notice how they looked at one another in the courtroom. Plus how she stared at his mugshot. Not saying he did the crime but I am saying their paths did cross along with some tension.
His was probably the first heavier face that she came across, after looking at hundreds of lean and meaner faces. She was impatient. Then, she kept staring at his face, in the detective's hand, while he asked her over and over if she was positive!
This movie takes me back to when I worked at my local Police Station and County Court House many years ago. The Police were corrupt then and still are now. Not saying they all were but most of them were. Put a police uniform on them and they think they are GODS! 6 years ago I had occasion to take a Police Officer to Court. He fabricated a story but unbeknown to him I knew some "straight" Offices from a different area who gave me information he had buried (they did it anonymously of course). I won my case but the Officer in question wasn't dismissed.......he was just transferred to another area! The Judges are no better these days, they're a joke but as long as the Police Force, Judges and Lawyers get their money, the truth doesn't seem to matter to them.
Yes, I have 1st hand experience. Just to have a some whist on transit to the police station. I have to pay 10 ringgit for the privilege. This how their flash n blood is made up . Always like the haram food.
So, it's 2024 and this movie was released in 1990. Can you believe this is 34 years old?? Makes you wonder if the stars in this even remember (or want to remember) doing this movie. It didn't do very well even though it was on cable. The critics gave it bad reviews. Imo it is a good movie. If this really was how the NY courts were in 1990, then ALOT of people must've been wrongly convicted. 😞
Am I the only one who thought of looking at a mirror and saying three times "Candyman, Candyman, Candyman" when Tony Todd appeared as one of the police officers?
I hate remakes. Re-watch the original Candyman if you want, but please, don't give ideas to Hollywood. I shudder to the crap that a remake is going to be.
I believe that he knows her from somewhere judging by how they looked at each other when she walked into the court room. But I don't think he did it. Sorry but her little tantrum after the court ended seemed more like felt guilty about sending an innocent man to jail and not just about her face
Yes, he seemed to recognize her. I thought maybe they had had a relationship and she held a strong grudge against him. He seemed to think his case was lost. It's not clear to me if he is innocent or guilty.
The justice system is like any other industry , those near the top are not treated the same as everyone else.. We realize the corruptions ,frauds and rigging that take place on a daily basis and then we nave the assumed ,human failure factor with those directly involved within the system , lawyers, prosecutors, judges, jailers ,etc.etc . All these people , essentially the honest ones , àlso have lives and are subject to the same outside influence we all are , but when the factory worker or bartender makes a mistake or has a bad day it doesn't typically mean others will suffer the consequences . I can only imagine the kind of pressure some of these , 'honest' workers work under knowing the system and how it really works. Imagine if your future depended upon truth when truth seems to be a very insignificant part of this system. The human failure when added to the purposeful corruption, rigging and frauds makes for a system that has become a rediculous cess pool and rather than attempting to fix it , it simply gets worse . Consider how this cesspool can be used against various groups of people and that's the real nightmare.
STOPPP with saying how "broken" the system is .. or how it (jail) is for "profit" .. its not about that at all .. most who make comments like that hav never experienced another country or their prisons and/or legal processes .. ours in comparison is by far the most lenient and fair . Its not perfect, but the Best One So Far .. every time I return to the United States I kiss the ground because we hav it so good here and everyone gets a fair trial .. we are presumed Innocent and thats a preface many other countries do not giv .. they hav base, deep corruption that exceeds anything here and bribery that is shameful and transparent .. at the end he wanted the deal because he was counting on her not even showing up, and yet she did .. hence, was guilty all along ..

Great , realistic flick. The most accurate film I’ve ever seen.
Denise's story vs Jesse's story...and the Truth.
One thing for sure, Denise is a serial liar
And the Asst. DA doesn't care about the truth. A win for her is the only care.
Yet, he took the deal. I’d do the time before I’d plead to doing something like that if I didn’t really do it.

Damn she said she was 19yrs i thought she was 35🤔🤔😏😏
My grandfather always said HELL gonna be FULL Of preacher
its gonna be full of everybody that aint saved ---many preachers arent ----but there WONT be ANYbody there who is saved -----praise Jesus HE came for the sick not the well ---and there aint no well just people who think they are
:| The human law can only punish, it cannot turn the criminals to the good ways, only the Divine can.
JESUS IS THE ANSWER.
Wow this movie is great!
They didn't allow his friend or lawyer during identification parade ,
Why didn’t anyone get a search warrant to look for the knife and stolen belongings in Jessie’s house? Why didn’t anyone go to all the stores he went to since the date of the robbery and find out what he paid with or find his receipts?
Great questions and great detective work was missing here
Guys I need help I'm little confused we knew at the first time The Chase Williams was an innocent and that girl whatever her name was she was a liar so what kind of end was that,
Watching this is my law homework.
whats the question u have for it
Expected more from the move! No proper conclusion!😐
Men i love those saxophone playing is from who
Wow! I am so confused.
I mean, there are 2 sides of the story here.
First. The way Jessy was sure that Denice was not gonna come i was very sure that he was responsible for the crime because he knew that he had threatened her
BUT
The way he couldn't even describe the crime scene got me thinking... maybe he's just afraid that he would stay in jail for long, maybe he didn't commit the crime!😢
In a way the flaw remains in root on the belief of the people resolving the crime by bringing somone to justice while the case is marked as controversial. Then guilty or not everyone would respond the same. Thus one has to pray that a similar crime ( pray for a crime!!!!), would be committed while reside behind bars and the blues could link the crimes in question to seek of a truthful solution to the cases in total
the big question is did he do it or not. they both was so sure. the voice of the man who slice her was a different voice ... but ?????
That's right!
matrix, she liaed . There was no boyfriend living there and she took krack
It's a much better system than other countries have.
Often, but not always.
Stop lying.
Proof is irrelevant. Manipulation is sadly an attorney standard, even when paying outrageous sums for laziness and unversed case law.
ADA’s don’t make that much, and public defenders make even less. Lawyers looking to get rich do corporate law, where the real scumbags dwell.
I chickened out…
Get your record expunged (sealed) and then request a copy to ensure it was done.
@@thesacredibis6723 too bad Evan will probably never ever see your reply. You didn't @tag him.
I understand I do
SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!
@@GarwinWayne makes sense
Yes, but look what you're doing to yourself with that habit!
Just watched that bill pullman movie. Exactly
Yes, I have 1st hand experience. Just to have a some whist on transit to the police station. I have to pay 10 ringgit for the privilege.
This how their flash n blood is made up . Always like the haram food.
Sounds like Australia in my state Qld they r scum
She's 💯 sure, yet she's stoned d time it happened.😕😖😟
I thought that the rough treatment by the cops was unnecessary. 😳😱😵💫😲
+Lisa Simpson Rules the first thing that came to my mind.. lol.. I wish they did a remake of it
I hate remakes. Re-watch the original Candyman if you want, but please, don't give ideas to Hollywood. I shudder to the crap that a remake is going to be.
lbennaugh lisa
Lisa Simpson Rules yes!!-ha...ha..that tall blk. guy fm.candy man!!
.
@@randall8379Yes i agree. You might be right.
Lawyer didnt even visit the crime scene.
No time or money for investigators. Caseload is heavy. Pulled into other busy districts, like at the end of the movie.
Its not perfect, but the Best One So Far .. every time I return to the United States I kiss the ground because we hav it so good here and everyone gets a fair trial .. we are presumed Innocent and thats a preface many other countries do not giv .. they hav base, deep corruption that exceeds anything here and bribery that is shameful and transparent .. at the end he wanted the deal because he was counting on her not even showing up, and yet she did .. hence, was guilty all along ..
i was looking for this movie ,,,good movie
