Its mine so if it was repairable it wouldn't matter. I don't generally accept cameras from clients. I sell them archiving service to get their tapes digitized. Much better use of their money. That is how I ended up with this.
Fascininating! I had one of these for many years and it survived many front seat rollercoaster rides as I pursued my theme park hobby back in the day. The only reason I threw it away recently was the fact that the rubberised coating on the outside had perished and gone all sticky. It had a really nasty fishy smell too. Interesting to finally see inside one of these things!
@@12voltvids Wow, I just presumed it was the chemicals in the plastic coating. Come to think of it, the picture was all off like yours too. I just thought the heads were clogged.

Long ago i tore a flat flex and felt like a major ass so i decided to come back to camcorders a few years later maybe.
Thank you very much, your vid was really useful to diagnose the fault in my camera. Only problem is that after fixing it (I replaced a couple of caps) I started shorting some of them to see what they were for (stupidest thing I've ever done, but I thought with those kind of currents and voltages shorting them wouldn't do any damage). Well, of course I messed up and after shorting one of them everything went blank and the camera doesn't even power up anymore. I figured the problem is in the dc/dc converter board because I have no voltage from the pins but a couple that just output the 7.5 volts they receive from the supply, so I guess by shorting the cap I blew up the voltage regulator board. Can you give me any input about how to proceed or am I better off looking for spare parts? I agree it is worthless except to someone that has a bunch of 8mm tapes of family videos that they want to transfer to digital and their own camera is broken / beyond repair. To that person it is worth something because 90%i of the cameras from this era will be in the same shape as this one. I figure I will list it on craigslist and see if I get any bites.
