I learned to spin on a kick spindle and I started out kicking it the same way you are doing. This left me in pain and frustrated me to no end. I noticed in a couple of videos that some people didn't kick the spindle but instead roll their foot across the spindle between the whorl and the peice it slots into at the bottom. I started doing this and it was a game changer. Most people use their bare feet but I found a old pair of shoes that had a very thin flexible soles made of soft rubber and they worked the best for me. I find that that dragging my foot across the spindle part towards me was the easiest and sooooooo much faster than kicking the spindle. To wind on I drag my foot across the spindle away from myself. I still prefer to spin cotton on my kick spindle rather than any wheel, e-spinner, drop or supported spindle that I own. You may find that unsupported long draw is the best way to spin on a kick spindle...other ways are possible but can be hard on the back (maybe that's just me because I have terrible posture). Oh, to ply I turn the whole spindle around so that I can roll my left foot towards me on the spindle rather than push away from me for long periods using the normal position. The only problem I can see with you being able to use your spindle in the manner I described above is that I'm not sure there is enough room to get your foot up against the spindle underneath the whorl. It appears that, because of the design, part of the frame of the spindle could be in the way of your foot. Maybe you could give it a try. I didn't mean to write a book but I thought my experience could be of some help. Good luck and happy spinning!

Wow! Thank you very much! I may not be able to use the spindle in this way, but I really appreciate hearing your experience! I will have to give it a try next time I sit down with the spindle.

Hi Jessica, I hope you're OK xx
Your Kick Spindle seems to be making a nice yarn.
I can't wait to see what the yarn looks like when you take it off the Spindle.
Jope you have a great day too.
    Happy Spinning
    Take care and stay safe
Lots of love Jen xxxx 💖 💕 ❤

It is! It's going to take me a little while to make the yarn as I learn how to use the kick spindle, but I expect it to be quite fluffy when finished! Thank you for watching. :)

I would love an update to your review to see what you think of it after a while! Is it comparable to other spindle wheels?

I will be glad to do an update on it sometime soon! I can’t quite compare it to other spindle wheels as I have no experience with any others. From looking at videos, I think this one is slower, but awesome for plying thick yarns! I love using it for that purpose. :)

It's looking good! My concern would be the stability. It looks rather light weight. Could you mount it on a heavier piece of wood so that the "kicking" would not move it? I looked up other kick spindles and they run in the $300 range so this is a real bargain. This one is still a consideration for me. Thanks and God bless.

Hm, while it does scoot, it has a nice wide base and I haven't had any worry about it tipping over. A grippy mat or shelf liner would probably stop it moving. I may try a bit of shelf liner for mine since the placemat doesn't quite do the job. Thank you for watching!

I wonder what it would be like to attach it to a treadle
