    Next time you do a replacement, you may want to keep the old battery module - Those modules contain several standard SLA batteries wired in series, so if you are ever stuck for a replacement on short notice, a local battery supplier can replace the cells with fresh ones (use only high quality brand batteries for reliability, not the cheapest ones as used in budget alarm systems) and you're good to go. Do recycle the old cells after removal from the module, but first photograph them so you have a record of the original spec, and which size of battery terminal lug they have (there are 2 commonly used sizes - get batteries with the correct lug size to match the cables!). Check for any corrosion on the cables and lugs, as dead SLA batteries sometimes "weep" a little acid at the potting around the lug. Cheers!

      That’s a great idea! Not sure why I didn’t think of it. I’ve even seen people do that before.

    HI thank you for sharing. I would like to ask if you need to shutdown the servers first before replacing the battery?

    • @G6TechnologyServices
      @G6TechnologyServices  3 місяці тому +1

      I left them on. The UPS stayed on and powered the servers while I changed the battery. If you get a lot of utility power issues, it might be safer to shut them off, since the UPS wouldn’t be able to power them without a battery if the power goes out while you’re changing it.

    obviously you don't really care if the rack fails...UPS systems should be high priority for maintenance if you want equipment to continue to operate. Batteries are expensive but whats the cost of loss of power

    Appreciate the video. I need to do this and I didn't trust replacing the battery while it was still running. Thanks.

      Yeah, I was worried about doing it too. I did the secondary UPS first which only has a couple unimportant things plugged into it to test before doing the main unit. Those batteries are expensive! I put it off longer than I should have. Glad it’s done now. It gives me peace of mind knowing it’s not likely to randomly fail at any time now.

      Officially, you are supposed to replace them every 4-5 years. They may last longer, but you risk an unexpected failure.

    Mine was recognized and set date and all showing 100% then now it acts like i didn't replace it again 🤔

      Maybe it didn’t save the new settings. Try going through the menu and set a new install date again.
