Btw these are designed so you can hot swap the battery while its still on, use the battery disconnect in the back before hot swapping. I have one I also bought used, they are really nice and a great value. I wasn't lucky enough to have the network management card come with it but I found one used on ebay. One warning about these units thou, the self test isn't perect and if the battery is bad the unit sometimes will just shut down with little warning. Just replace the battery and your good to go for another 3-5 years.

Greetings from Indonesia: I bought a used APC Smart-UPS SMC1500IC for US$50. Batteries were dead, but I changed them out with new ones. At our avocado farm, electricity is VERY UNSTABLE and lightnings . Based on personal experience: the APC units seem to withstand the lightnings better compared to other brands.

I'm using CSB GP12170 Batteries for my SMT units. I think it's one of the top tier brands out there. Your load is way too low for this UPS that's why it cannot calculate the load (and the remaining time) correctly, like you said. You need at least 30%. If it's still way too off you need to calibrate the battery time by applying more than 30% steady load and let it drain the battery completely. Procedure is a bit weird as the power will drop so I wouldn't recommend doing that with your equipment connected (I'm using tungsten lights)

@@cmos64Thanks for the info, I'll need to come up with something with a high current draw!

You got a great price, the add in card alone sells new for over $200.

Hi! I have the same unit and when i disconnect the ups from wall outlet the loads turned off and give this humming and buzzing noise. Do you think it’s the batteries that I need to replace? Thanks for any advice.

    Hello
What is the difference between SMT and SMC models ?
Is it true that SMC models don’t have a fan ?

      I don't know, I don't have an SMC model.

WONDER - CAN SWAP TO LITHIUM BATTERY INSTEAD TO HAVE MORE BACKUP TIME ? /// THX 4 SHARING THIS...

Technically you can, but it will degrade/harm the lithium battery and give it a much shorter life to the point that it will have worse longevity than lead-acid. The charging circuitry isn't designed for any lithium chemistries.

LiFe is the one that looks like SLA so I assume thats the one you are talking about...and technically yeah, it should work. The thing is if it goes sideways it goes really hard sideways and that might mean battery goes boom and the house burns down. Not really worth it given the purpose of a UPS is not to keep running when the power is out...its to give you time to gracefully shut things down, and in this case, the UPS will actually do that for you if you configure it properly.
Forget LiPo entirely...too many ifs on that one and one, dead battery detection, is almost definitely in the charging circuit and LiPo really hates that.

Makes me laugh when you say it's an older model. I'm still using the one that connects with a serial port instead of USB :D

I dont understand this stuff at all. If i buy the new "SMC1500C" model do i need to pay a fee to use the device? I just want to protect my high end gaming PC and have no interest in any smart features, i just want it to work when the power goes off so i have time to shut it down and unplug it. I heard someone else say that u need to pay a fee to use the cloud or something? Which is fine as long as they dont force me to use the cloud lol

No fee, no need to register. I don't do any of that junk either. You just plug it in and it works when the power goes out. I have this same model and for the same purpose. I have everything - computer, stereo, monitor, router, modem, all attached to this so when the power goes out momentarily, I don't lose connection to my games. Works perfect. My unit I bought 3 years ago is warning me I need to replace the battery. APC factory replacements are $200 right now on Amazon. Off-brand replacement packs are $126. Buying these individual batteries and wiring it yourself as the video shows is going to cost me about $70. So in a few years when your APC unit wants the batteries replaced, remember this and just buy the individual batteries and swap them out yourself.

Good catch, I've conflated the battery voltage with total series voltage.

    Hello
This ups model is noisy? It has a fan that works all the time or only when it’s without power?
I am looking for a pure sine wave apc ups with the lowest noise level possible because I want to use it in my living room

    • @Famicoman
      @Famicoman  Місяць тому

It's only noisy when running off battery, and possibly while charging up. While running with mains power it is absolutely silent.

@ ok thanks so I will find it just looking for model smart ups SMT1500.
Do you believe is it still worth it buying for protecting a audio system and a smart tv QLed 2024 ?
