My mistakes was thinking my hair would look like someone else’s because I used the same products and not protecting my hair after it was styled(using satin/silk)
@Tracy Nelson Yes sis, I went waaayyyyyy back and my hair is thriving and growing long like crazy, my momma and auntie's knew best. But I would like my $1000.00 back :O that i spent on BS that I thought would work for MY HAIR, but I still enjoy watching natural hair videos. Once in a blue moon I will add one something to my hair routine, but basics is everythang for me.
Hey Sharde! I completely understand what you mean
Yes girl, that constantly styling is something especially being a natural hair content creator
I can totally relate. I had to chill on that. My hair is better off for it.
YES!!! Won't have any content to create without it
That is a good point you made is not to compare your hair to others. We just need to stop comparing ourselves to others just in general.
Hey Tay I agree 100%
I’m ALWAYS touching my ends! It so hard not too 🤦🏾♀️
It is hard!
Hey hey its a hard habit to break
Thankssss, this video was useful! My mistakes? I tear my hair ends when it gets knotted; I don't moisturize daily; style my hair too tightly, touch my hair wayyyyy too much.
Hey Shara! We all have our habits
I quit constantly using a brush to detangle my hair. I increased finger detangling and reduced my shedding to almost nothing 🥰
Hey Hey that's a great tip!!
My biggest mistake was avoiding trims. I wouldn’t get a trim for years or think I could get away with trimming once a year like some other naturals. My hair would grow to mid back but when I straighten it the damage would be apparent and I’d have to mini chop. I’ve cut off 4 inches three times and I’m determined not to make that mistake ever again.
Hey Hey Heather! I'm so glad you figured out what was wrong
Great video. Very honest. My biggest natural hair mistake was thinking the products would be the be all and end all to get my hair like I wanted. I later realized, the problem was not the products. The problem was my hair was damaged. Once I went to a natural hair salon that focuses on healthy hair (shout out to Replenish Salon in the ATL) and my hair became more and more healthy, I realized it wasn’t the products that were not working. The problem was my damaged hair. Now I can pretty much use any product for my hair type and porosity and get good results.
Hey hey!! I'm so glad you were able to figure out what works for your hair!
Luckily my color mistake was early in my journey... Did a blonde that basically relaxed my hair. I cut those ends off and kept it pushing! Now (because my gray won't let me be great) I color regularly but have upped my coloring technique and mantainance knowledge. 😉
Hey Hey! That's awesome you found out what works for your hair
I feel like no one talks about Eden Bodyworks and it makes me sad cuz its Black owned affordable and Q U A L I T Y like what more could you possibly ask for
That’s an OG line for me I love them
I swear by them!!!
I didn't know they were black owned but I have long felt that they don't get the recognition they deserve
I love Eden! Their products didn't work as well in my hair as my HGs 🥺 but still a brand I'd support
Hey Hey! Thanks for sharing
Not deep conditioning. I've been natural for over 3 years and literally just started deep conditioning 2 months ago.
Hey Starsha! Have you noticed a difference since deep conditioning?
Inquiring minds want to know.
I'm such a fan of your videos! I love your personality and how honest and transparent content is.. One of my natural hair mistakes at the beginning of my journey was, not deep conditioning. I didn't think I needed to do it, but it turns out that my hair loves it!! 😍😍 Keep up the great work!! Your hair is gorgeous, and you are such a beautiful person!! Peace ✌
Hey Lolita, thank you and I'm glad I could be helpful
Girl your voice is... reading poetry in a night club with the lights low and candles lit... nice.
Hey Trejour! Oh thank you!
yess that over-manipulating mistake was my top mistake! I was doing my hair every👏🏾single👏🏾day👏🏾..At one point I didn’t know you could preserve a style for longer than a day! I thank God those days are over😭😭
Hey hey the past is behind you!! Thanks for sharing
Yes you can always just talk to us or do other types of video outside of hair
Hey Monique! That's a great idea
Love the chocolatey makeup look!!!
Hey Dustyn! Thank you
I don’t co-wash enough, that’s my number 1 problem. I’m always thinking that I need to shampoo my hair every week, but that’s causing nothing but breakage and dryness
I pull on my ends and pull at my split ends 🙃 but I have recently started finger detangling on wash day before i use a detangling tool and that helps a lot with shedding.
Hey Jayla! I'm glad you're figuring out what works for your hair
I need that eyeshadow tutorial sis!❤ Fall Vibes! Love it!!!!
Hey Hey!! That's a great idea
My 5 mistake
1. Hair dye [boxed at that]
2. Clipping/Trimming myself/ not trimming at all.
3. Deep conditions (still tryna figure that out and incorporate)
4. Co washing only no shampoo 🧴🤦🏾♀️
5. Not oiling my scalp/ with grease.
I really enjoy these talk videos and topics. Good to reflect on going forward ❤️
Hey Alexus!! Good to know your mistakes so you can fix them. We've all made them💛
Yessss the being lazy on moisturizing is something I’ve realized too and working to fix also trying to stretch twist outs longer than I should
Hey Joi! Thanks for sharing!
Sadly, I know color is my down fall and manipulating my hair a lot. However, I love color and have to figure out how to do it healthily which I've got some tips on. I also compare my hair to others and I shouldn't. I get my first curly cut on the 19th and can't wait to see what type of curl pattern I have an learn to appreciate it and take care of it better.
You should probably try the hair color gels , other than that , you can hair healthy colored hair , you just gotta work harder , wish you the best girl
I've had colored hair my entire natural hair journey and my hair is healthy. I am big on hot oil treatments (castor, olive and coconut) and deeo conditioning as much as possible. Having healthy colored hair is possible.
Omg me too, I’m getting my first cut maybe on the 13th I plan on using green beauty hair type chart, it’s more accurate and gives you a lot of info
@@tta1390 I’ll check that out!!!
Hey Desja! Thanks for sharing, let us know if you find a healthy way to color and keep your curls
Thank you Janae 💕💕.. yep we definitely have the same cottony hair 🤣.. my thing is I compare my hair wwaaayyyy too much to other ppl .. girl I’m trying really hard to stop doing that 🤣😳
Hey Hey! Thanks for sharing!!
The copper CurlSmith hair makeup realllly satisfies my urge to color. You could check it out and review it for us☺️
Hey Morgan! That's a great idea. Thank you
My hair could not handle a silk press. Heat protection, below 375 degrees, and all. Still suffered some heat damage. Transitioning cutting the damage.
Hey Taz, its crazy how the coloring affects us all differently
My mistake was combining out my locs this year and not getting it cut/shaped/trimmed as soon as possible. My curls have been resistant to being loose natural. Detangling is WORK if I leave a style in too long.
Hey Katrina! Detangling is definitely a job of its own
Hey “my girl”. You’ve gotta love Nae! Thanks for sharing😊😊
Hey Kisha!! Thank you!! 💛
One thing I need to stop is sleeping with the deep conditioners in my hair overnight and slacking on the protein. I had hygral fatigue( over moisturized hair). 😫😫😫 I was being super lazy and slacked on protein and my hair was crying for help!! Even if you are low po... give your hair some low dose of protein now and then to keep the balance!! Don't be lazy like I was lol. That was a BIG lesson I learned!! Great video!! ☺❤
Yes!! So many people with low porosity hair believe they should NEVER use protein. I try to atleast once a month.
Hey hey thanks for sharing, I'm sure a lot of us don't know about over moisturized hair
@@laymarisol Same!! I usually do it once a month as well!😊
@@Nae2Curly You're welcome 😊
The moisturizing point is SO important!!
Hey Latrece! Definitely is!
Not getting my hair cut into a shape when I big chopped. I think I would’ve loved my natural hair a lot more of it was in a tapered style out the gate.
I think one of the mistakes I made was to leave what I knew to be tried and true for my hair. You have to know your hair and what works for you.,no matter what others do or say. I was also guilty of over manipulation until the Lord gave me the idea of a protective style and now I'm back on track!!!! Janae your hair is definitely growing and you will probably reach your goal soon!!
Hey Yeslia, I agree you have to know your hair
Coloring was my natural hair regret too. I liked it when your hair was colored so went and tried to do the same color and it took me a good 3 years to grow it out and chopped off the rest. Lost a lot of length in the process.
Hey Hey!! Thanks for sharing!!
Yessss girl that hair shape is giving me lifeeeeee
Hey hey!! Thank you!!
Girl, girl, girl!!!!! You are my ultimate faithful! My granddaughter (6 years old) and I sing your intro all of the time around the house. Let's get it, let's get it!
Thank you also for the spiritual part!!👍
Starting off with refusing to clip my ends faithfully was one of my mistakes. Note sleeping with a satin pillowcase. I too play with one side of my hair. I had to put a protective style which I've never done.
Lord bless and keep pop-O-lockin!!💜
Hey Hey Lesa!! Thank you and thanks for sharing
Makeup is super cute!!! good job!
Hey Hey! Thank you!
I thought I was using the wrong products because my hair wasn't doing what I thought it should. Once I started understanding hair types, I was more realistic in my expectations. My hair also dries "up" and not down!
Hey Hey life is so much better once you find out what works for your hair
My BIGGEST mistake is not deep conditioning and moisturizing enough. Girl I'm a LAZY natural and my hair definitely suffers because of that.
Hey Kesha! Thanks for sharing. Get on that moisturizing
I was a straight haired natural for a long time, and my strands are fine, so fine that when it’s pressed out people think I’ve gotten a relaxer, however not the case. I’ve never suffered from any heat damage and my hair grew faster in this state. I know now it’s because my sebum was able to travel down my strands easier. When I decided to maintain my coils my main mistake was not moisturizing my hair properly. I was not deep conditioning my hair. I don’t know who I thought I was!!! I was using heavy oils and no butters, and leave in that didn’t work well in my hair. My hair was a dry mess and a caused more damage doing this.
Hey Rita! I'm glad to hear you figured out what's best for your hair
My going natural mistake..
Not trimming my ends while transitioning from perm to natural. (Didn't trust myself to do it.)
Hey Annette! Thanks for sharing
Lots of love from Belgium, love your energy!
Hey thank you so much!!
Definitely the hair comparison, and not having a routine for me. I’m JUST now starting to pay attention to MY hair and seeing what it likes and doesn’t instead of saying “oh well so-and-so said do this and not giving my hair a chance to tell me if it likes that or not. And also just being lazy. I’m in school 😫, i don’t have time! So I’m learning to either make time, or leave it alone and nourish it under a wig! 😂
Hey Trisha! Thanks for sharing!!
I love my natural hair but 3 years in I still don't get it. I Think I do, but my hair runs the show not the other way around.
Hey Iris! I've been there it has a mind of its own
My mistakes were color and I wasn’t even bleaching. Too much color is just too much color. Rushing was my second misstep. I could have a three hour wash day, but it involved me absolutely ripping through my hair. Finally twists. Believe it or not. Due to the way I twisted my hair to get the ends to hold it caused a lot of knotting and the like. Each of these thoughts reminds me more and more of why I love my locs.
Hey hey!! Thanks for sharing
My mistake was going to a Dominican hair salon 😩 they use too much heat. I had to cut my hair
THAT’S FACTS. Most of them don’t know how to handle my hair type. It was a disaster🤦🏾♀️
@@aleikac2352 never again!
Same sis 😓 No one does my hair but me and the risk I took was coloring my ends that one time. I enjoyed it for a couple weeks, and after that my hair wasn’t the same 💔 I alternated between protective styling and trimming every month till all the color was gone. Can’t help but think where I’d be if I didn’t color, BUT back on the healthy hair journey and I’m so happy🥰✨
Hey Tiffany, I'm glad you're back on your journey!
@@Nae2Curly Thanks girl... you really help with the motivation aspect of it❣️
Lazy moisturizing for me, not refreshing midweek. Buying too many of one product just thinking it's gonna be great for me and then turns out it ends up not working out so I still gotta make it work until I use up like 4 bottles of one product🙈😂 And I take off too much of my ends when trimming. Mainly being a product junkie is my natural hair mistake. Oh yes and dry detangling and being too rough like the first two years
Hey Dominique! How is your hair striving now?
Yasss I wish I would have stayed away from heat AND color. But new journeys are good.
Hey Hey!! That's so true!!
Thai video was so helpful thank youuu! I just started my natural hair journey this year and got my first curly cut last weekend which I’m in loveee with! Will def keep these mistakes in mind going forward!
Hey Eva!! I'm so glad I could help
I definitely get lazy with moisturizing... I need to get better at it FOR REAL!
Hey Vanessa!! YES you have to moisturize!
felt thisssss oneeeeeee ! i put my hair up in protective styles now
Hey Shamill! protective styles for the W
over doing the protein treatments and dyeing my hair...
I felt all of that! Trying not to be lazy and moisturize more frequently. Deep conditioning more often these days..still haven't found my holy grail product for the C portion of the LCO though soooo🤷
Hey Sanya!! Yeah we all get lazy
I am going through it with my hair now after a silk press. The products are sitting on top of my hair and are not setting well - my styles are not lasting and and my curls are not as defined when wet.. not sure what to do 😩😩
Great tips! Your hair is gorgeous! Is this a twist-out or wash n go you're sporting today?
Thanks for this video! Color killed my hair and I’m still growing it out!
Hey thanks for watching, that color will do it everytime
Eye makeup is on point in this video! ❤
Thank you so much 😀
Eres muy hermosa OMG
Hey Cameron, Gracias!
Yes, my locs were so beautiful. I got my hair dyed and i had to cut it. I was so upset because my locs were at my shoulder.
Hey Hey!! I'm sorry you have to start over!
@@Nae2Curly she damaged my scalp in some areas are growing slower.
you are adorable! loving the makeup too!
Thank you so much!!
Girllll sacrificing my hair for UA-cam videos. I been there. Issa no. 😂 How am I gonna be giving hair advice meanwhileeee I stayed manipulating it. 🙄 If you start itching for color again, try the Gemini natural temporary color.
Hey Irene! Exactly!! I'll look into the color idea
I wish they would of said WashDay was Revolutionary!!! Lol😜😜😜 5 hours!
Hey Hey Mia!! Wash day is absolutely no joke lol
Using too much heat and being a product junkie. Took me a while, but I got it together.
Hey Diana!! I'm so glad you got it together
I only been natural 2 years so I’m still learning ,I have fine natural low porosity hair and I’ve leaned that I can’t stretch my hair , when it’s wash day, girl wash yo hair , also big sections with styling or protective styling works better for me , other than that if I try to do all these twist like others , my hair gets tangled. Rip to that lost hair 😂😂😂
Hey Octavia! We're all still learning.
I colored my hair multiple times when I was more newly natural. I didn't think twice about it until my hair was dry and dull and I did experience some breakage. I definitely identify with not moisturizing enough and I'm only just now starting to learn my hair and its been 7 years. I'm on a journey to grow my hair too especially the edges but I am strongly considering getting locs by January 2021! I have been making an aloe vera gel condition which has helped with making my hair more healthy. Thanks so much for your channel it's always a joy to watch.
Hey Hey Thank you for sharing
I love your vibe girl!!!
Hey Asali!! Thank you
Thanks a lot now I know what to do and what not to do
Hey Elizabeth! It was my pleasure
How do you avoid single strand knots? I LOVE your channel because you keep it 💯.
Sleep on satin pillow cases or a satin bonnet, keep your twists in for a couple of days so the ends have a break from the elements, get regular trims especially
@@Taniesha__ Thank you😊
@@Taniesha__ I must have too much damage because I sleep with a satin scarf with a satin bonnet over it on a satin pillow case and my hair still has single strand knots and so much breakage.
Keeping your hair stretched....preferably heatless.
@@fairykween333 if you have them and it seems excessive, you might need to trim your hair, from then on try keeping your hair stretched mostly with twist or braids and make sure you properly moisturize your hair throughout.
A very Excellent & informative video!
Comparison is a thief! It steals all of the joy from your natural hair journey! Lol
Hey Kanya! Glad you enjoyed it!
@@Nae2Curly 😊
Thinking a comb would just slide through my 4c hair (lost a lot of hair), and dying my hair (breakage)
Hey Brian, glad you figured out what's best for your hair
I am a long time listener to your channel and I enjoy all the info u provide. Could u give some input on finding a salon or stylist. I live in pittsburgh but everyone that says the do a deva cut...cannot. Any help
Hey Tania, to clarify you've looked for natural hair stylist?
@@Nae2Curly yes!!! Honestly at 45 my mother is the only person to cut my hair. Now I'm thinking of having a deva cut but don't know how to choose a good stylists or salon. Any hints
I’ve been growing my relaxer out a little over a year, I’m still trying to figure out what products work best in my hair now that more of it is natural....plus I don’t know how to style hair so there’s too much manipulation going on over here
Hey Shiona! Check out my playlist for styles and products.
Great video girl. My mistakes were rice water and the denmen brush. No more tho.. smh🤦🏾♀️
Hey Katrina! Thank you and thanks for sharing
Enjoyable!😀
Hey Dana!! Thank you so much
Hair Poppin!!
Hey Sashay! Thank you!
Girl! Turn the volume on your into downnn... Almost had shock attack with these high def ear buds on....😐😟😣
Girl yes about feeling your hair was as dry as elbows!!! Def me!!!! Lmaooo
Hey hey gotta keep it real with y'all
Love the video 💙
Hey Angela I'm glad you enjoyed!
I think my biggest mistake sense working full time is not moisturizing my hair constantly. I haven't been deep conditioning on my wash days like I used to and I can see the loss of moisture retention tbh. I need to start dedicating myself again on the weekends and stop being lazy.
Also, that's my length goal! Any tips for fighting breakage?
Hey Shaneikiya! I find the most important thing to do its keeping the hair hydrated.
soooo were not just gonna fly past how good your hair looks tho
Hey Esther!! Thank you so much!
Yes I made mistake of re perm hair . . Mistake yo lesrn
Sauve good leave in cream and the serum
Hey Marvelet!! Def learning
Not trimming enough
Using the wrong products
Not willing to spend time on my hair
Hey Felicia! Mistakes to never make again
I’m so excited to see this video from you! It’s been a long time!✌🏾✌🏾✌🏾✌🏾❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hey Yolanda. Hope you enjoyed it!
@@Nae2Curly I most certainly did!✌🏾✌🏾❤️❤️❤️
I only do leave in and oil, never thought about cream,do I really need it, my husband says it’s too many products that I’m putting on,he says more it’s not better.
I thought just the leave in would do the job of the cream,to moisturise the hair.
What do you think I should do?
How often should we do the LOC?
Trial what works for your own hair.. your husbands opinion is irrelevant
Hey Vanessa, I agree you have to do what's best for your hair. I definitely suggest trying the cream.
Nae would you do a temporary color like Curl Smith or Gemini Naturals???
Hey I don't plan on coloring any time soon so I'd haven't looked into those brands lately
OMGOOSH! Watching other people do their hair and wondering why mine doesn't my hair look like that🤔 DUH different curl pattern 🙄 🤦🏾♀️😄 P.S. you look beautiful as always sis..
Hey Hey!! I've seen that a lot you can do what's best for your hair only.
@@Nae2Curly I want to thank you for actually replying to your followers. Happy Holidays Janae you are simply the best 🥰
Loved the video❤️
Hey Deven! Glad you liked it!!
Love ur hair miss ur videos
Hey Lauren more to come!
What up doe My Girlllllll
1st here
Why UA-cam not letting me like your video
Hey Hey!!
I'm just too lazy and the low cuts just have me in a choke hold.😂🙈 I shaved my head a little while back so that's where I'm at.🙈
Hey Brittaney! How is it going now?
Hey Janae! I'm actively trying to moisturize and leave it alone.😊 It's a grown out buzz cut right now so when it gets longer I'll be looking into twists.
Are you still located in MI? If so what's a good salon that caters to natural hair? I'm having trouble growing my hair.
Hey hey!! I'll have to look some up
Knowing you're low porosity and I'm high porosity will the technique's you use work for me? If I watch another UA-camr with high porosity even if their curl pattern is different would that be better?
Yess, the way products work depends more on porosity
Hey Doretha! Its possible, Its all about the product as well as the technique
But the hair color WAS CUTE!!! 😆😆
Hey Charlotte!! Thank you but it cost me lol
Good video
Hey Colette Thanks for the visit
What about hair paint wax?
Hey Ashley! I've heard good things. I have to check it out
I love bleaching my hair, and I need to STOP but it’s so CUTE 😭
Hey Hey Jay! keep it healthy!
Over styling for sure and unrealistic hair expectations
Also owning a flat iron, my curl pattern can be easily damaged by heat so straight styles are a no and I can’t be trusted to not touch up my hair once silk pressed. If I wanna wear my hair straight I’ll wear a wig for now on.
Hey Alexandria I feel you on the unrealistic hair expectations
Where have you been?
Hey Yashica! I've been around preparing new posts
I’ve been natural for like 5/6 years and I just learned a few weeks ago, the difference between leave-ins and moisturizer. I would always just use leave in and then oil. Lawd hammercy 😭😭
First of all can we talk about how I got the intro and outtro down packed lol. Secondly, mine was doing my hairstyles too tight
Hey hey!! Thanks so much for sharing
@@Nae2Curly thank you for being you sis
