Janice was special ❤gorgeous voice never gets old NEVER 😍
She was the Real Deal, man..hers is the absolute definitive rendition of this song. It's a lullaby from the musical theater production of "Porgy and Bess" by George Gershwin..yeah, man, 1934..almost 100 years ago..in America 100 years is a long time.. In Europe, one hundred miles is a long way...
i have never seen this footage= i sincerely appreciate you for posting it
Brother Pope, where you been??? We've missed you man.
great outdoors , good to see you 🙏🏿
@@POPE. Good place to be 👍
We'll never see her like again , once again great choice 👍🏽
I always thought Edie Brickell had her look...but her voice was too smooth for me. Also..... check out the great Syd Straw
Good to see you back. Glad you mentioned the sound quality so no one else has to.✌️ Everything by David Bowie.
Last songon last album released after his death.
I can sacrifice the audio and just be blown away by the performance!

CSN song called Suite: Judy Blue Eyes
Look good bro. ✨️🙏✨️
there is another rare jj video- it was on local tv in san francisco in the mid sixties- what is very unusual is the fact that janis was dressed in a style of clothing that was popular among high school and college girls of that time period- my wife dressed like that back then- as a matter of fact john mellencamp mentioned the brand of girl clothes in his song jack and diane - bobby brooks was the brand name - it must have been not long after the tv show that janis changed the way she dressed
"Summertime" is probably the most covered song in all of jazz and popular music. So many artists have recorded it -- Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Miles Davis, etc. One estimate is that there are 25,000 versions.
JJ's version stands out among them all.
Glad to see you posting again. Happy healthy and prosperous New Year to you and yours!
Always glad to see someone react to this song, but the studio version on "Cheap Thrills" is 100% better than any live version.
It’s an old hymnal. That Bernstein re interpreted.
Cool! There's a clip on UA-cam of her performing the song in Europe that involves a baroque horn section and an mesmerized audience. Joplin's version of "Summertime" differs quite a lot from the other pop covers of the song. "Summertime" has roots in the even older tune, "Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child". According to Guinness World Records, "Summertime" holds the world record as the most recorded song in history, with the total number of recorded versions reaching 67,591 in 2017. The list of artists who have covered the song includes such luminaries as Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Mahalia Jackson, Sam Cooke, The Marcels, Herbie Mann, Ricky Nelson, Billy Stewart, Big Mama Thorton, and Sublime (as "Doin' Time"). For me the classic pop version of "Summertime" is the one by Sam Cooke. But the Billy Stewart version from 1966 resounds with a ferocious groove, blasting horns, and rapid fire scat singing like you won't believe. Also check it out. @POPE. Just keep that music coming that's what we need right now
There are SEVERAL way better versions of her doing this live. Killer ones. Find one!
delete this or keep it ?
@@POPE.Dude, don't delete it! It's great to see Any performance that was ever filmed of her, we'll never get any more. This here is Janis at her Real Best..she never had more fun and passion than she did in these days. Check out "Turtle Blues " off of Cheap Thrills, her 1st and best album. And Summertime, of course...
No not MJ. We NEVER smoked that in the 60s and 70s (& 80,90,00,10 or 20)!
I sure did..still do..the first time that I ever got stoned it happened that Jimi Hendrix was on Johnny Carson that night...
This great, but the sound isn't good, and not her best performance of this song. The studio version is 1000 times better, and there's another live version that's very good too. The song is so great and she does such an amazing job on it, you owe it to yourself to check out the studio version. It's so much better. Please check it out.
