Mike D is the man. Last time I saw him he said "Ohh heyyy whats up mannn??" and came in for the hug...effectively drenching me in his sweat after a Hairy Apes BMX show. Good times. Love it when he busts out the rounded brass pot for some wacky hand scrubbing sounds, scrubbing in tune while killing it like a guitar solo.
@@markgnarz5399 Yes, he's great indeed. And I didn't mention Jaco, nor Thundercat whom I saw live and is really really good. But Les Claypool hits a soft spot with me: I find him the ultimate bass player because he's more than a bass player.
The guy is insane and I by no means am a musician, but its is clear for someone like myself to recognise the rate his left fingers move to perfectly execute those notes is something only few can do. I discovered this guy due to South Park. Most underrated musician there is!
Saw them open for Rush around that time... never heard of them, but , my oh my I never forgot that performance. Sometimes the opening act steals the show, they almost did.
how many bass players actually use a whammy? Like-talent in buckets. And the length of his musical career is so great. Thanks Les for all you have given us!
I saw him on this tour, not this exact show though, and I can say with full certainty, he knows what he is doing, the entire vibe, the show, the music, it all fit, and it all was fantastic.
Hearing him drop into the line for Thela Hun Ginjeet blew my fuckin mind. I knew he'd be a Crimson fan but hearing that song from that guy is astounding.
One of the most incredible bassists I've ever listened to and seen. Almost incomprehensible how he does this. The way he and the other musicians can play off of each other - like the zylaphone player - reminds me of Ravi Shankar and those he played with - just really top tier musicianship!
Vibraphone actually...I only correct because that's all Mike usually plays outside of various drums. I've had the good fortune to meet almost all those guys on the stage. Mike Dillon is one of the very few Vibraphone players you'll ever find. When he and Skerik tear it up together....it's something special. Skerik is also in Frog Brigade but was not on this tour.
Les Claypool is the only musician I would ever be able to identify by his walking alone. If he were dressed in a gorilla costume completely obscuring his entire body and not even playing a bass, I'd be able to identify him by his weird, slow knee-walking-dancing thing he always does.
Looks more like an EPIC Mike “Greasy D” Dillon vibraphone solo with Les answering back, and then, as a respectful employee, Mike hands the reigns to Les!
The solo in Northampton, ( rained out after 2 1/2 songs was comparable. Since it was a race against the lightning they came out with a blazing Thela Hun Ginjeet. Since having putting off neck surgery to see my favorite bass player do this I was crushed by rainout but at least I got to see a stellar version of this. Still 😢
as a man who love Jaco Pastorius with his Jazz, where as i can't understand how anyone can find his jazzy play "messy" as it is the cleanest jazz ever. This... for me alot of this was just alot of random messy noise, but even tho i can still tell it's tight. Maybe this is how people who dont understand Jazz, hears "the chicken" of Jaco Pastorius, and tells me " yo that is some unsynced jam" Which we all know its not! But if they hear it the way i heard this song, i can understand how they can feel that the song is messy, but to dare say that Jaco has been untight while playing thats a lie! :D
Mans on the vibraphone got it locked in
For real!!!

Harry apes been on hiatus for a while
And he's got a stank face the whole show
He's no Ruth Underwood, but he tries hard. ;)
Les playing Bass in person is UNREAL, the notes just FLOW off of his fingers. Its like being witness to some kind of wizard weaving a magical tome
Zappa would have loved to use Les in some of his stuff
Most likely.
i dont think most folks realize how difficult it is to play xylaphone. incredible musicians, every one!
some of them are easier than others in my experience. now glockenspiel thats a different story
Les Claypool is the ultimate bass player.
Have you tired some Mono Neon?
Ummmm...no.

@@eldoabrahamson ok, whatever
Jaco was soooo much more than just the best base player. Composer, drumer, piano vocals
Listening to Primus for the first time in 1991 was mindblowing and it still is today.

Primus sucks! 🤘

Personally, I had never seen a Bass player use a Whammy bar until tonight. I think it's awesome!
ONE OF THE GREATEST BASSISTS OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!
Not one of dude. He's the best
There’s a disco superstar inside of Claypool and he pops his head out all the time.
Got some Mothers of Invention vibes with this one. Love it! Thank you Les Claypool

Great live performance ! Excellent post !

Here's Les and the original Frog Brigade wailing on Thela Hun Ginjeet 20 years ago....enjoy.... ua-cam.com/video/Ml6LmIB-hvA/v-deo.html
My first Frog Brigade/Friends show back in like 2008 he opened with Thela Hun Ginjeet and the crowd went bananas. Also played some Pink Floyd
I need to see this brilliant man live.
nice transition into King Crimson!
I believe we were witnessing the solo/jam section in the middle of the song. I desperately hope they release a high-def "DVD" of this 2023 FFFB tour.
A whole band of badasses right there. Tree frog is awesome.

Claypool is Magic!
"Epic Bass Solo" more like, a really awesome musical ride. Through modes and minds it started ta make sense. Yes Les.
Most impressive knee bending sir claypool .. you are a legend 👍
Cant wait to see them in july
It adds a new dimension to a King Crimson classic. Tony Levin would have loved this.
Tony Levin isn't dead though
@@milkwalkerjones633 Ha! True
Musical magic is Les Claypool!!🎶🎶🎸
Great bass playing but that Xylophone player is also going HAM holy cow.
Top 5 shows I’ve been to in my 50 years!
King crimson good!!!❤
Les is more.
Les so cool his bass has a whammy bar🎉
It's very many good bass player's and Les Claypool is one of them!
Can’t believe this dude is real! The best
Les never ceases to amaze.
Mike D is killin it!

He got that move from Grandpa Jones. Look up Grandpa Jones Mountain Dew. No doubt an inspiration for Les. The move is exactly the same!
What, I want to hear more of Thela Hun Ginjeet . Nice solo as well.!!
Thela Hun Ginjeet from King Crimson at the end. That bass line is unique.
One of the best!!
Les's got a whammy bar on his bass. That's awesome.
Put one on mine after seeing Les!
Majestic and beautiful Music/Video 😊 I’ve Subscribed!
Thank you 🙏
Fantastic! This felt like a beautiful dream. 🎸✨
The first I ever seen a whammy on a bass
I was just starting to think, "that sounds like a King Crimson riff," and lo and behold, it was.
epic marimba solo also
this is the most amazing bass tone I've ever seen him using
His live tone is awesome!
@@natezman I'm know, but this time is different. I've watched him using the whammy bar just like this before but the tone never got that crazy
O.M.G. Less!!
A whammy bar on a bass?!? Sensational!!!
Jaco didn't need one as he was fretless.
Wow! Les is actually Mor!
When great rock musicians grow older and mature, the become jazz musicians ;-)
The second law of musical thermodynamics - all musicians will gravitate towards jazz (or electronic) over time.
Most creative bass player ever!! Amazing to watch.
Puta madre!! Les sigue siendo de los grandes con el bass 🤘
oh and love the period clothing. no pockets, yet somehow in the pocket. Brilliance!
I love Les Claypool ♥️

what a legend!!
nice bit of king crimson at the end
Sounds like a funky Star Wars cantina track.
Mothers of Invention 2023...right into Thela Hun Ginjeet...SICK!!!
Working his way into Thela Hun Ginjeet. Rockin', & so glad he had Adrian Belew & Jerry Harrison on this tour.
Thela Hun Ginjeet!
Ça déchire! This is like Mozart after Tommy the cat 🐈
Well epic vibes solo anyway. Happy birthday Leslie.
Gotta get some love for that vibraphone player
Seen them in Asheville they were truly amazing. Although, I’m a little disappointed I wasn’t fortunate enough to see Sheirk with them.
LES CLAYPOOL IS DA MAN!!!
Claypool and Entwistle set the bar for bass players
You need to get out more.
@@eldoabrahamsonWhaddaya mean dummy? They did.

They actually played the whole song.
His finger stuff was incredible

Claypool covering Crimson is classic.
I LIKE ALL LES STUFF I HOPE PRIMUS DOES SOMETHING AGAIN I THINK THEY WILL THATS LESES BABY
Les Claypool’s Flying Frog Brigade
I HAD NO IDEA IT WAS KING CRIMSON UNTIL THE LAST 10 SECONDS OMG ❤
Lacquer head knows what he desires

No one ever but Les....let's hear a vibe and xylo vs bass battle.
0 idea I needed to hear this
Excellent

When you jam with Les you gotta have a cool hat.
More Xylophone..💪
A tuba and Les Claypool battle would be phun!..
We saw a bari Sax/ bass battle at the show I saw. They tried to make everyone poop themselves…. It was hilarious.
I'm all in, where did this take place?

Whatever it is that guy is phenomenal!!!😲
Vibraphone
That procussionist is a freak.
Les is amazing, but for this video, that xylophone player got my attention!!
what scale is that?
because OF COURSE Les would have a bass with a whammy bar.
Thela Hun Gingeet. Aka Heat In the Jungle
