If you hope to move on to an acoustic piano, a Roland FP-30X is your best choice beyond all others at the price point. I was up to the level of an intermediate beginner when I had lessons decades ago. I am not an accomplished musician but I am a good researcher. The FP-30X and even the FP-10 are not just beginner keyboards. You can learn all the way through the intermediate level and even into the advanced level on the Roland action if you have to. You can learn fingering on any keyboard. What you intend to advance to will determine your choice of your entry level instrument. As always, do your own research.
With all the limitations you need to consider the price segment and usecases.. the fp30x is meant for beginners who want quality piano sound and feel. And it delivers in this aspect
I just bought an fp 30x after returning my p125. The fp30x action is extremely realistic IMO, but has a much smaller music stand and also I feel like the piano sound is lacking compared to the p125, but is probably also a little more realistic as well. Seems more like the sound projected is the sound one might hear when sitting at the piano
The FP 30X is a great piano for the price, with caveats. I believe this is their second best keyboard action like their newer RD 88 stage piano. I believe the keys are somewhat anti-microbial if I remember, right, and absorb perspiration. Like you mentioned, I don’t like the lack of a display, and the interface controls. My Go:Keys 61K may not have as good keyboard action, but it feels semi-weighted, and textured, and the sounds are pretty good, with lots of variation of acoustic, electric pianos and other voices. But as much as I like Roland keyboards, I would go with the Yamaha DGX-670.
I suppose the lack of Bluetooth audio output could be due to the common latency and/or fidelity issues? Most Bluetooth speakers don't support low latency codecs because they're more expensive to implement. Roland probably wanted a consistent experience. Just a guess.
Ah that's the reason probably! A normal level of BT audio latency can be very annoying when playing live, and even could be a source of bad reputation...

A genuine (I’m not arguing/disagreeing with you): Which PIANO do you think is better? I’m talking about piano and not other functions. I’m looking for a new digital piano in this price range.
I went to see and try the Roland FP30x and the Yamaha P-125. I think people are staring blind on the so called ivory texture keys. If you close your eyeshot blindfolded and start playing and listen, you will find out that the Yamaha sounds amazing and plays wonderful. This is how I choose between them. All the different voices on the Roland is not needed 50% will never be used. They Keybed is not very durable like the Yamaha. It’s the same as on the FP30. In a couple of months the make strange sounds and need some maintenance.....
There is much to like with this board. The keybed to start with, textured keys, Graded Action, the escapement. I appreciate the headphone jacks supporting 1/8" & 1/4" jacks. Line out is a biggie. Way to go Roland! Missing is a Mod wheel, which I like having. This board is a little more than a similar featured Yamaha, and Casio. But it's worth it. I'm going to be looking at the Yamaha DGX-670 and the Roland FP-60X. I'm way overdue for a new Keyboard, plus it'll slow me down buying guitars. Another terrific Review Jeremy, thanks for pointing out the good and the bad....and sometimes the Ugly!

I am trying to teach myself the basics first before going to a teacher. For me this sounds like a great options for me to learn it. Feel how a real piano's feels, so when I ever feel good enough I can play on a real one as well. Now I have a very very very cheap one with only 64 keys. There are so many options but all have something that is not very good. This one looks like a very good feel, good enough sound (special if you use headphones). Not using other sounds just piano.
Jeremy, amazing review! You explain everything so good in detail! I follow you allready a few years and i will not stopping watching your video’s! Thank you so much!
Jeremy, do you plan on making more videos about this Roland? Do you think this piano is suitable for a person who wants to take up piano? Thanks and regards. Keep up the good content!!
The possibility of detuning specific notes could make for interesting effects - a customised honky tonk would be interesting. The GM honky tonk is too exaggerated IMO, so this may be a solution. Seems to me that this piano offers a lot, even if it is not fully featured. But it's time that Roland and Yamaha put basic screens on models costing €500+. The FP30X is €699 (euros) according to my supplier. And I am impressed by the addition of proper outputs. This means that Roland is listening to consumers and reviewers. On the strength of the outputs seen in this review I have mentioned this new product to someone who nearly bought an FP30, but held off over the outputs.
Awesome review Jeremy! you are making it harder and harder to choose a 🎹.😅 Was deciding on the either the fp 60x ($1099) or dgx 670($799). But if roland has the same tone engine in the fp30x( $749) as well I should save money? Maybe wait for your other reviews.. ( makes it harder) Would you agree fp30x
Mi estimado Jeremy See, que piano de escenario, bueno, bonito y barato me recomiendas según tu experiencia... Felicitaciones por tus videos, me encantan
I am from Chennai. I ordered FP30x 2days back from Krish musicals shop, chennai. they told takes 5days to deliver. I tried from from soundglitz website also but it takes time from soundglitz.
I had the FP 30 for a few years. It's a great piano for the price, but I had to move to a stage piano for organs and better Rhodes sounds. I went for the Studio Logic Numa 2X but I lost the great quality piano sound this offers
So cute, at 2:37 Jeremy’s fingers moves like crabs being pushed by the waves between the sand(white keys) and rocks (black keys). With that song fingers move like crab legs dancing or running.lol. Excellent video. 🙏
hi Jeremy, great video, i am waiting for this keyboard to arrive. i dont really like phone apps but i'll use it if i have too. Does roland offer any program compatible with my pc? and what about just not using any app at all?
Hello Jeremy, from a Jerimian on the other side of the world. Awesome review - straight forward . I like your approach. Do you think they’ll “fix “ the shortcomings of the 30X the higher up you go in models. Thank you for your reviews - I really look forward to them. Peace brother.
Thank you for a very informative and objective review. A mid-priced keyboard will always be a compromise but this one suits my modest needs very well. I like the action and the concert piano sound is very pleasing. That is the only sound I really care about, and to get it all I have to do is turn on the instrument. The speakers have enough power for me and that is important. I agree that the volume control should have been a dial or a slider. The keyboard is a little heavy to carry around but I can move it by myself. Also, it fits in my car with the back seat folded down. I haven't tried to use it as a midi controller with a DAW yet but I don't anticipate any problems.
Hi Jeremy, I love your videos keep up the good work! I have a small request. Which song did you play first at the start of your video? I have been searching for this piece and could not identify the piece. Thank you :))
Thanks for the video. Having watched many FP-30 videos over the last few months I was almost sold on the Roland and waiting for the improvements on the 30x, however even though I knew what to expect with the update, I’m not quite sure why but this has now left me rather underwhelmed about it all. My excitement seems to have gone for this for some reason ! Looks like it’s still the digital piano to go for if you just want a ‘practice’ piano, a good Piano sound, keys and the more realistic action. Otherwise the other sounds seem rather dated and the apps are looking pretty terrible. This has left me looking towards something else with a much better usable instrument selection with more modern sounds but still with weighted keys. Roland, Yamaha but KORG is now added to my list to investigate further. Started this journey looking for a digital piano but I’m swaying more and more towards a good weighted key ‘keyboard’ with lots of modern/cool sounds to blend in with a good grand piano sound... in this price range does this even exist?? What would you suggest ?
There will almost be some sort of compromises at this price range, unfortunately. Watch out for my side-by-side comparison with a couple of other pianos in this price range.
@Roland, love the clean look and to control it by app instead of an outdated screen on the piano. Everyone has a good phone today, but Roland please make the app a bit more beautiful (by the use of an UX developer) and integrate 'piano designer' in 'piano every day! Besides this, I think it is sad that the 30X didn't get the same round button design as its bigger brothers (60x and 90x). For such a good selling piano, that would be a well deserved face-lift!!
Thanks for all the reviews and great information! Does the bluetooth audio connection conflict at all with usb midi out? I would like to use this with an iPad and Playground Sessions... having the app sense keyboard input while hearing app audio and the Roland piano through the FP-30X headphone jack.
That first song made me tear up disappearance of haruhi suzumiya just reminded me of when Gigguk demonstrated his passion for Kyoto animation by learning this song without knowing how to play any instrument let alone the piano and uploading it after the fire. (Btw the song being played is called gymnopedie no.1)
Mr jerremy you make me want to upgrade my trusty old fp 10 to fp 30x... nice review.. im a big fan of roland if comes to digital piano they are the king of digital piano in my opininion
Jeremy, your videos are very informative and how you honestly feel about whichever instrument you are showing is greatly appreciated. Have you ever reviewed or just played for any amount of time, a Kawai ES110? If so, would like to know your overall/honest opinion of it. Thank you again for your excellent video reviews.
Thank you for your kind words. Unfortunately, where I am located, Kawai ignores the DP markets and concentrates mostly on the high end acoustic grand piano market. And because I am a very tiny channel, Kawai global has not reached out to me to let me have access to their digital pianos
@@JeremySee I was also looking for your video about the comment of Kawai ES110 but unfortunately cannot figure it out. Now, I know the answer. What's a pity :( Anyway, thank you for all your useful information and comment.
"And once again, to the gentle sounds of Eric Satie, we enter the magical piano world of Jeremy See - this time to explore Roland's latest Digital Piano keyboard". A pity so many features are accessable only via a phone app. Then again. this is primarily a piano, so clutter has been minimised on the instrument and transferred to their 'phone' app. A point I don't think you addressed when pointing out flaws etc was the issue of attempting to play inbetween the black keys - common in instruments with little depth although. The initial grand piano in the intro sounded well, but the remaining voices sounded little different to me than those Roland has included in some of their pianos for a long time.
Always a pleasure to see you here, my friend! I almost missed your comment as I get hundreds of them a day across my video library. You are right! The rest of the sounds are a little different from the usual Roland offerings. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Glad Australia got things under control.
Did you know in pxs1000, the keys from A#6 to higher octave resonate also like damper is on?......and also has wooden clack sound, you can hear it clear by maximum the volume and the laying the last octave🙃 I came to know about it today after seeing your video.
No. BT output to speaker doesn't work well with instruments. Even with Low Latency BT, there is still a noticeable delay between pressing the key and getting the sound.
I have 2 questions 1. Is it possible to connect to the Roland the piano designer app and to UA-cam at the same time so that you can play UA-cam music simultaneously? 2. Is it possible to save sound presets in this Roland software and retrieve from there for playing?
If we play with our eyes closed on a rp 701 and a fp 30x, will you hear a big difference in sound quality when the technical sheet is identical? If it is to pay more because there is the price of the furniture, I choose the 30x. Does my reflection make sense? Thank you and sorry, my English is very bad.
Yes I do know you can press and hold to increase or decrease volume quickly but still you wouldn't know which volume you're at between 2 LEDs because there is 90 steps in the whole range represented only by a few LEDs.
The volume control UI/UX just feels frustrating. I suppose they were going for a consistent minimalistic look at the expense of usability, otherwise why not a knob, slider or finer-grained digital representation. They could also simply map 88 volume levels to the keys.
@@JeremySee Appreciate it! Looking forward to your video. I’m still thinking which to go for, for my first digital piano as i’m still a beginner and wanting to sustain the piano at least for the next couple of years ahead. Thank you!
I have one, and love it, but would like to have Jeremy get one and review it, too, to get his opinion anf feedback. I commented in depth in reply to someone asking about the Go:Keys on another video, but forgot with one. It was mu review as bedt I could describe it, but I haven't even gone through the whole owners manual, but figured out a lot from video reviews.
Hi Jeremy, just wondering, are the speakers in the fp30x in the same location as the fp30 ? Underneath the keyboard? And do think this causes muddled sound? I have the Fp30 and was looking to upgrade and not sure if I should. I dont really like the speakers underneath the keboard. Thanks
The sounds from the notes from Roland sounds "pitchy". Am I right? After listening to several 'voice', The organ sounds pitchy when playing the notes around the mid C (middle). Can you make it sounds calmer , lower the pitchy sounds. I like low rich tones. Thanks
What is the type of cable with use from output roland to mixer/soundcard..? Is the balanced cable/stereo, or unbalanced cable/mono..?? Please help me.. Thanks..
Hi Jeremy, i know that portable piano in common are heavy to press at the back of the key because it short. But i want to ask about the FP-30x is it heavier or lighter to press at the back of the keys compare to the psx 3000 or the P125 ?
I was just about to buy a Yamaha PSR e373 today. When I arrived they had a deal on the e463, for $299 (the e373 is $239). Should I go for the e463 instead??? I'm perplexed I have seen the video with the comparison but now I'm a bit hyped bc the $$$$$$$
Jeremy, I'm thinking about selling my acoustic piano and buy this Roland FP-30X. My acoustic is an old upright and I'm not enjoying it's sound anymore. Nonetheless, I'm urging to set my piano near my desktop, so I can play it more frequently, on work and study intervals. Do you think the trade from acoustic to digital would be disappointing? I'm thinkin' about buying one of these and, if I don't like, Imma return it.
It's great that you pointed out all sound capabilities, but it would also be great to hear more about it's keys, action response, realistic feel, dynamic control, etc. This is what I think is the most important and interesting thing to know. Is there any upgrade/difference between the action of this piano and the former FP 30? I also wonder if it's possible to connect this piano to a DAW and use it as a MIDI controller? Thanks in advance!
ahhh... I thought I don't need 60x but it seems there are too many drawbacks (and the volume buttons are deal breakers)... Looks like it's fp-60x for me and I'll need to save a little bit more money :(
Could you tell us how noisy are the keys of FP-30X while playing compared to other pianos? I used to have Roland HP302 where thumping was really audible, even outside the room, even when playing softly. I ignored reviewers' warning about that and then regretted it :) I heard FP-30 has annoying clicking which develops over time but this should not be a problem for me (I hope), as I intend to mainly use headphones while playing. I just want other people outside my room not to hear me playing, often late at night.
It's physics. Key noise is the sacrifice for getting a hammer action. Over time the dampening felt strip will be compressed and the sound gets louder. . Even if you mute an acoustic grand piano, you will still get key noise.
@@JeremySee Thank you for your quick response. I was rather wondering if there is anything unusually disturbing about the FP-30X, as it was with the HP-302, where people were able to hear the thumping even on an another floor. I am not expecting the keys to by completely noiseless.
After watching the 5 reason Roland 30x better than Yamaha P-125, I was curious to see how this piano works out as a future first time piano. But now, I am thinking about going back to the P-125 🤣
Jeremy, did you find you needed to make many adjustments to get the right amount of resonance on the main piano tone? I purchased an FP50 because of its portability, but I was unhappy that I had to tweak it a lot to get anything like a satisfactory sound, so I returned it. For me, the centre notes were too wet and modulating and didn't cut through well enough for what I do, but that could be just me. I'm not saying that the FP30x's main piano sound won't suit players. The FP50 has since been discontinued of course, in favour of the FP60 I guess.
Hi Jeremy please tell about how recording could be done in this piano and is it easy to record it in .wav format through usb drive port directly from the piano or its just midi format export from the inbuilt recorder?
@@JeremySee pls also demo all acoustic piano sounds, and make suggestion about each piano suits for what condition? May be like main concert piano for solo or bright piano for play with band? Thank you brother.
Looking forward to your FP-60X review too. Roland smartly lowered the price on that one by hundreds of dollars; Previous version was overpriced. Now, it's a good value. Added in several new electric pianos.
I noticed that too. I am leaning towards 60x too. Now we have to wait for Jeremy to confirm if the fp 60x is worth the upgrade from fp 30x at that price difference
Thanks for the review. While I think my 2008 Roland RD-700GX is still the bomb, it's too heavy to ship in the mail(stands a good chance of getting damaged as well) if I work overseas. More limitations on the 30X than I'd like to see but the size and weight plus quieter keys than others I'm seeing put it at the top of my list. I like the 60X but again, it's bigger and weighs more. I tend to keep with previously purchased brands so that's a minor consideration as well. Finally, that you bought one for yourself is another factor. The 256 poly vs my 700's limitation of 128 makes me wonder if the 700 has future value. I have the expansion slots full and using 4 different sound banks at the same time tells me I'll be dropping notes. But I'm just a beginner and the 30X should be just fine. Beginner with a 700GX? I like overkill.
The roland will have a better action which will help produce better strength in his hands and he will be able to use it longer. It also has more sounds and better features. Also they last longer my roland piano has been going strong for 15 years
That's interesting. I love Roland's warm tones, but the lack of volume wheel can be a deal breaker. I feel like it's going to be a problem after a year or two.
With the appropriate codec and BT 5.0, latency is reduced to mere milli-seconds. We need to push manufacturers to commit to R&D and innovate rather than just think about the limitations.

Thank you for your kind words my friend.
Jeremy, do you plan on making more videos about this Roland? Do you think this piano is suitable for a person who wants to take up piano? Thanks and regards. Keep up the good content!!
Very nice review!all the features highlighted!
The outputs were long overdue. Finally, it gains some street cred for gigs.
( makes it harder)
Would you agree

Hi Jeremy, happy chinese new year. :)
Happy New Year!
great demo, Mr J See. thanks. i read the piano is not too heavy for gigs. is that the case?
It's one of the lighter weighted key actions around.
I had the FP 30 for a few years. It's a great piano for the price, but I had to move to a stage piano for organs and better Rhodes sounds. I went for the Studio Logic Numa 2X but I lost the great quality piano sound this offers
Thank you for your review ❤️❤️
So cute, at 2:37 Jeremy’s fingers moves like crabs being pushed by the waves between the sand(white keys) and rocks (black keys). With that song fingers move like crab legs dancing or running.lol. Excellent video. 🙏
😉 sharp observation!
hi Jeremy, great video, i am waiting for this keyboard to arrive. i dont really like phone apps but i'll use it if i have too. Does roland offer any program compatible with my pc? and what about just not using any app at all?
oh, newer videos you have water marks nice! thanks for your reviews they are very good!
Hello Jeremy, from a Jerimian on the other side of the world. Awesome review - straight forward . I like your approach. Do you think they’ll “fix “ the shortcomings of the 30X the higher up you go in models. Thank you for your reviews - I really look forward to them. Peace brother.
Yes, higher models get more sounds, more editing and a small screen.
I really don’t understand why keyboard producers don’t mainstream the chord recognition function on digital pianos 🤦
what is that chord recognition function?
Wut is that, Bro
Have fun!
Hi Jeremy, I love your videos keep up the good work! I have a small request. Which song did you play first at the start of your video? I have been searching for this piece and could not identify the piece. Thank you :))
I love Roland but I like to layer 2 piano tones together to maybe give the tone more fuller of a sound!!
Man the intro hit hard
Thanks for the review
You can plug an FP-30 into a computer or IPad and get almost any sound you want.
Hello Jeremy, which speaker did you use to do this demo? You said it has a quarter inch stereo output. Love your reviews.
Direct recording.

Yup! It's a feature on better digital pianos.
No. BT output to speaker doesn't work well with instruments. Even with Low Latency BT, there is still a noticeable delay between pressing the key and getting the sound.
With the correct codec & BT 5.0, latency is as low as 5ms, which the keyboardist can be given a choice if he wants to use it in his scenario.
5ms only in best of conditions and very limited equipment can achieve that kind of latency. Still can be quite irritating. :)
I have 2 questions
Mr Jeremy , i tried the Roland Fp-30. Just press and hold the volume button to increase/decrease the volume quickly . It might work here in 30X. 😅
I found that roland has a very natural sound but for overall, which would you go for? Fp30x or korg b2?
I may do a side-by-side if there's enough interest.
@@JeremySee Appreciate it! Looking forward to your video. I’m still thinking which to go for, for my first digital piano as i’m still a beginner and wanting to sustain the piano at least for the next couple of years ahead. Thank you!

hi, cannot save to internal memory. Can you make a demo?
I was just about to buy a Yamaha PSR e373 today. When I arrived they had a deal on the e463, for $299 (the e373 is $239). Should I go for the e463 instead??? I'm perplexed
I have seen the video with the comparison but now I'm a bit hyped bc the $$$$$$$
Jeremy, I'm thinking about selling my acoustic piano and buy this Roland FP-30X.
Can you please compare the Roland fp-30x and Yamaha dgx 670 in a detailed review?? That would be great!! 🙏

Between this EP compared to KORG B2, which is better overall?

Can you tell me the name of the apps that I can use it on my FP-30X?
Is the keybed durable?
Please tell me what this intro song is. I heard it on your CT-S1 video as well.
I had no issue with the main piano voice right out of the box. No unnatural decay.
Hi Jeremy please tell about how recording could be done in this piano and is it easy to record it in .wav format through usb drive port directly from the piano or its just midi format export from the inbuilt recorder?

I don’t know which one I should buy for my seven years old son - a piano beginner. Korg B2 vs Roland Fp30x?
The roland will have a better action which will help produce better strength in his hands and he will be able to use it longer. It also has more sounds and better features. Also they last longer my roland piano has been going strong for 15 years
The Korg or the Roland?
Still the Yamaha P-125 wins.....I tried both and went for the Yamaha.
Hi friend, why wins?..., sound, action or both?,
That's interesting. I love Roland's warm tones, but the lack of volume wheel can be a deal breaker. I feel like it's going to be a problem after a year or two.

In that price range the Px-S1000WE is the best you'll find.
It's $650.
The WE, and BK variants generally include wood stands aswell.
You won't find bluetooth-to-speakers support on keyboards because the delay is unusable. You'd press a key and hear something 2 seconds later.
With the appropriate codec and BT 5.0, latency is reduced to mere milli-seconds. We need to push manufacturers to commit to R&D and innovate rather than just think about the limitations.
