      Well that's just it isn't it. Maybe you are hearing such a difference in quality because you ARE hearing this through a computer connection to a UA-cam video and probably on phone speakers 😂. In person they both will sound very very different and even more so in comparison.

    Stu, these videos are priceless! One small recommendation would be to shoot these with a shutter speed that follows the 180 degree rule. If you're shooting at 24 frames per second, set the camera's shutter to 48 or 50 for the most natural looking motion blur. Unless you're shooting with the higher shutter to better show the action of your fingers playing, but for a more natural look, I would stick to 48. Can't tell you how great these videos are for people to get an educated perspective on the differences between makes and models!

    This is not only a significant upgrade, it really is one that almost makes the old instrument obsolete. This is just a much more realistic sound. I focus mostly on the piano sounds, not the other stuff. So, in terms of the new vs. old piano sounds, this one is not subtly different, it is scream it on the mountain much improved different.

    • @Zoco101
      @Zoco101 3 роки тому

      I agree that the sound is much improved, but some users may be equally impressed by improved functionality, and the much needed line outputs. Suddenly, this piano becomes giggable. The old argument about Y cables in headphone sockets does not impress performing musicians.

    I feel like the polyphony rating is often misrepresented, as if the 128 limit just means you can't play 128 notes at the same time. But doesn't that also count all of the "strings" that are having sympathetic resonance? It's entirely possible a beginner or intermediate pianist will come up against that limit.

    Thanks for this review! We purchased the FP30X, great piano! - But BIG problem with "Roland Piano App" which is great, extremely helpful (almost a "must" for a piano without any display). But it has a BIG PROBLEM so far: it ALWAYS demands internet connection to work. And that's NOT what is stated in Google Play Store (where it says it will require internet "THE FIRST TIME" you use the app with a Piano, and for "some" features as well).
    -- We're Musicians who purchased a Music Instrument, not a mobile device which is aimed to internet!
    We perform in different places, where internet is NOT always available, or it may fail.
    -- Many Roland Piano don't have even a Display, so "Roland Piano App" IS BIG HELP for faster/easier Settings, and also to use ADDITIONAL SOUNDS/TONES that are not available directly from the Piano (but they're there inside)
    So we contacted Roland (Via our registered instrument-Support) requesting that the app does not demand internet for those features that don't require it.
    They said they would put in a "wish list" to consider... This should be considered much more seriously than a "wish"...
    -- We do hope Roland realizes the big importance of using the app without internet AND FIX THIS, it's a Piano!
    We encourage everyone using this great app to contact Roland, requesting this, because it would improve and help a LOT the customers & musicians experience who trust on Roland.

      @@MerriamPianos Thank you so much for your awesome reviews, indeed of great help to take a purchasing decision.
      The problem with the app was completely unexpected, since on Google Play it says it will require internet "the first time".
      We never expected that the app is demanding internet every time, otherwise it does not work, even for the most basic settings.
      We're VERY concerned, since nobody replied our 2 emails sent to Developers of the app, even after receiving the zendesk ticket numbers, (Developer email at Google Play), and the only response was from Support from the registered Piano, telling it would be passed as wish list. That was 2 months ago. The app was updated 3 days ago (Jan 23, 2023), adding new Piano models, but still requiring internet every time.
      It would be fantastic if you could contact them and/or make a review of the app showing that the internet "requirement" is a BIG limitation for Musicians, who travel to perform to places where internet is not always available, or even fail at home/studio, hence making impossible to use the app, which is a huge help, since lot of Roland Pianos don't have a Display. It has no sense at all to demand internet for features that don't require it. Also, the AWESOME extra sounds available ONLY through the app (obviously they're already in the piano, but for some reason not available directly...) Hence, if no internet, no extra sounds for performing when traveling...
      So we got mixed feelings, amazing piano with a limiting/ed app...
      - If you can help, it would be extremely appreciated!!
      Thank you so much.
      IMPORTANT P.S.: "Piano Partner 2" app, which allows Extra Sounds for FP10 does NOT require internet connection to work, but sadly is not compatible with FP30X. So for FP30X the only way for Extra Sounds (which lot are trully amazing) is "Roland Piano App"...

    I was curious if the speakers can be replaced by better ones? Hear me out; I detail cars so amongst that, I sometime upgrade factory speakers, LED headlights, etc. In some electronics there are upgradable things, and some that are more solid state that cannot be changed. I have the ability to do it and was wondering if you knew, or if it was something that you have any opinions on. My store has the FP-30X for $799 US, but does not have access to the older models. Since I'm a customer, they'd probably let me have it for $649. Is that good?

    • @MerriamPianos
      @MerriamPianos  Рік тому

      Hi! Brent from Merriam Music here! It is technically possible, but not exactly recommended for a multitude of reasons. Firstly, we strongly recommend leaving any type of repairs that involve opening up a digital piano to be left to a professional technician. Secondly, there are a number of reasons why manufacturers choose specific speakers or design speakers a certain way. Having a more expensive or higher-quality speaker may not necessarily lead to a better sound. The speakers have to work symbiotically with the rest of the instrument, which includes being voiced in a way that connects well with the piano tone itself. In terms of the price, $649 US sounds like an excellent deal based on our general price points here in Canada as a reference. :)

    Biggest questions...
    1) can you play quickly on the X version? The previous version had key travel which made this difficult.
    2) are the speakers underneath on both, resulting in a muffled sound ontop of a table (without a stand)
    3) what is the size and weight difference

    • @kidflersh7807
      @kidflersh7807 3 роки тому

      answer to 1: key travel is kinda intentional. You can play fast, you just gotta adapt to it. Key travel is a feature of ALL acoustic pianos, so it's replicated in digital pianos

      Hi Noeline! Brent here! Thanks so much for writing in! :)
      The good news is that virtually all digital pianos now are MIDI compatible, which means that you can certainly transfer MIDI files over via USB and play them back through the piano. However, with that said, if these are multi-track accompaniment tracks, things get a bit more complicated and it might actually be better to find an instrument that has a plethora of built-in accompaniment options. In my opinion, the Roland FP-E50 is very well aligned with what you're looking for! In addition to an amazing piano experience, the model provides an exceptional array of arranger and accompaniment options.

    Just pre-ordered the Kawai ES520 a few days ago. Does that one have enough to justify the $350 price difference? I’m mainly concerned about whether the RHCii action is actually better, and whether the acoustic piano sound is a step up as well. Kawai does include a legit pedal and I already account in the better speakers. But those alone won’t be enough

    • @Artcore103
      @Artcore103 3 роки тому +1

      Opinion: the action is probably a toss-up. the roland action is excellent, and reports of the es520 are quite good as well. the 520's sound engine isn't the same as the 920, but it is excellent nonetheless. i haven't heard the fp-30x in person I just own the fp-30. in terms of pure piano tone alone, even the es110 is probably superior to the fp-30. the fp-30x may change that and switch up the order a bit, but I suspect the es520 is superior in piano tone. if this is for home playing and you're going to use the integrated speakers, I can absolutely guarantee you the Kawai has the better sound from it's internal speakers, not that the fp-30/30x sounds bad... in it's price range it's probably got the best or close to the best internal speakers, but the new kawai 520/920 40 watt system is superior in tone/projection and volume. the fp-30x has some cool features that the es-520 doesn't have I think... just compare them closely and consider what features are important to you. As a purely digital piano though, by itself, the Kawai wins. Whether it's worth 350, I can't say.

      @@Artcore103 Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I played piano for 10 years (6 years classical lessons)and now just getting back to it. Idk about calling the Roland action excellent, I've always felt a little off the times I've tried it. I do know it's the best for the entry level price. Unfortunately I was never able to try any Kawai actions in person as no local shops carry the brand. I'm hoping I will like it better than the Roland FP-10/30 I've played. I also tried pianos with PHA-50 and Yamaha GH3 actions, and liked the GH3 best(but it's on an old model w lacking features) out of the ones in the shop. I'm on the same page as you as for sound and other features.

    As a beginner, $750 for the 30x seems a bit steep. Does anyone have any alternatives? Is the FP10 model good or should I look at something else?

      The only thing that come close is the Yamaha p125 but it has a dual sensor but no bluetooth. About $649 US but I don't know if it comes with a good damper pedal like the Roland , another $50 and Yamaha has a bluetooth adapter another $50 US. Yamaha does have USB Midi and Audio signal carried together. Under that for $400 US with good damper pedal and all the bells and whistles is the Inovus i88 piano.

      If the FP-30X is within your budget, it's a board you can grow into...vs wasting money on a cheaper entry level product you will outgrow in less than a year. Resulting in spending significantly more $$ in the long run. If it were overpriced, I believe there would be alternatives from Yamaha, Kawai...but they currently don't have competitive products in this price range. Kawai ES520 at $1200 competes or "beats it"...debatable.
      Maaaybe try to find a used Kawai ES110 to save some money but still have a legit board.

      The manager of my local music store told me a major microchip factory in Asia burned down, leaving many of the instrument makers without parts. Before that, there was the disruption of the pandemic. They're only now starting to catch up.
